There are a few things that really annoy me on this site, and I'd like to rant about them. To get it off right here this is NOT a blog about pending submissions, or anything like that. Its talking only about users.
1. People who ask to be a mod, everywhere. I hate the people that will go to the forums, and post a topic, "Giantbomb I want to be a mod" Then you go to their page, and in there status update it says I want to help out and be a mod. Then in their blog it says I WANT TO BE A MOD, WHY ISNT ANYONE LISTENING?
This was an actual user I saw. Guess how much he had contributed to the site? Nothing. 0 points, no pending submissions. This kid have 4 forums post, and 0 friends. He had literly been on the site for 5 minutes, and was already bitching because he wasn't a mod yet. I mean come on seriously? Im sure If I would have messaged him and asked him if he knew what it meant to be a mod, he'd have no clue. This one annoys me the most. I'm friends with a couple mods, and they've all told me that they were basically picked at random, for what they did on the site. Wether it be a good blog post, good post on the forums, ect. Mondo Burger. What? This blog needed a picture.
2. People blogging multiple times a day. I myself, pride myself in commenting on almost everyone of my friends blogs. I don't really expect them to return the favor, but it would be nice. The reason I comment so much is I remember being a new user on gamespot, and sometimes making blogs getting no comments. That was the worst feeling. You felt like yor wrote up the whole thing for nothing.
Which brings me to my point. I mean Im on this site around 7-8 hours a day, for ive been addicted here, and not even gaming. I could easily post 3 blogs a day, but I dont. Why? Because I have some loyal viewers, and I don't want to annoy them with half ass blogs. There are a couple people on my friends list that will post blogs like, "I just got home from work" or "I just shot two pigeons in gta." Seriously? I mean first off I could care less. I would actually care if you told what happened at work, or something, something more then just I got home. Please people stop abusing the fact that you can blog as much as you want, and remember you are wasting peoples time writing shit blogs.
3. People posting youtube vids in their blogs everyday, and nothing else. Yes I realize I have a feature called every three, where I post a vid. Why is it called every three? Because I only post a video every THREE days. And in that blog post I will explain how I found it, and maybe write a tiny bit more about my day or something. People find that its really easy to just post a random video, sometimes pretty sucky, and not even write words. Ugh that annoys me.
Yes I understand that it is their blog. They can do whatever the fuck they want with it. But I just have to take them off my friends list, because I don't want this site to turn into youtube, and people posting videos that you've most likely already seen, instead of posting good content. So what I have to say is i'm fine with people posting vids, hell I do it myself, but please don't just post them everyday, that gets boring.
4. People crying about their pending content. I mean really? Do you realize that this site has had around 40,000 submissions. And that before a few days ago there was only 4 mods going through them! Yes they could have just skimmed through it, and added it to the site. But the big four didn't want their site to be a load of bullshit, so they read through everything, before adding it. It just really really annoys me when people wrote countless blogs about the mods are soo lazy, they don't check the stuff it order, blah blah blah. Those people are about as smart as Pete.
But then after that blog, which none of us care about, nor want to read, they have the audacity to write. Don't comment on this blog telling me to be patient. I realize I have to be patient. Don't flame my comment board. Wow, just wow. First off if you realize you need to be patient, they why are you just sucking it up, and being patient? Secondly, your telling us not to flame your comment board, when your flaming the site itself with your blog! All I can say is that Id like to see those people start a game site.
5. Double posting. Yes this has been a age long problems in forums, and it is only worsened here because there aren't many mods to lock topics. Im ok if something random gets double posted on off topic or something. Because it would take hours to search through that entire board. But what actually annoys me is when you are on a specific game board, such as the gears of war 2 game board, and stuff gets double posted. I would take you an entire 10 seconds to make sure the topic you are about to post isn't being talked about.
For example I posted a Gears of war 2 topic asking people wether they wanted to buy the limited, or regular edition. We ended up mostly discussing that we were either going to get it for the golden lancer, or not. Later there were two topics, asking if you wanted to get the limited JUST because of the golden lancer. Well Hello! We are already are talking about that in MY post. Luckily both of those got deleted. There are probably more up right now though.
6. Last one. People posting on their own walls. Now i'm not just talking about one random post saying something funny. I'm talking there having a conversation with someone, and instead of going and posting on that person wall, they will respond on their own wall. I just have to laugh at this one. Thats not how it works! Haven't you ever used facebook or myspace?!!
To conclude this long blog I want to tell you this. Most to all of you on my friends list are not guilty of ANY of these things. And I'm not accusing you of being guilty. Most of the people guilty of these I have taken off my friends list. Because I was getting sick of them.

I don't get why everyone wants to be a mod but I say whatever floats your boat. I think most of the problems you described were bound to happen because this is a site on the internet.
You should have made a Youtube video of you ranting and posted it. I could totally see Dwight K running down that list reading them with the utmost seriousness. Even saying the numbers matter-of-factish.
Hey I'm with you on the multiple blogs posts per day. I comment on all my friends blogs, that is, if I have something relevant to add, but I still read them. So, when you have quite a few contacts and so many posting multiple blogs it's hard to keep up and then their new blogs push other contacts blogs down the list to whereas I might miss them...ya know?
Oh, and I post on my wall if I'm commenting back and forth with someone, because you can not make three consecutive comments on someones wall...so I'll comment on my wall that way said poster can comment again...:P
I don't really agree with #2. Actually, I do, but not exactly in the sense that you've given it.
Now, I agree with you when you said I hate blogs that say things like, "I just killed two pigeons in GTA", because, yeah, no one gives a crap about that. But I don't agree with you when you say you don't post a lot of blogs a day because you want them all to be professional (or however you said you wanted them). We're all friends here French. I don't expect to read a super immaculate blog when I come here, nor do I visit your blog because of its quality. I visit your blog because you wrote it and that's all there is to it.
I like to write short blogs (as long as they have meaning) but long comments. It sort of happens with me.
But other than that, all I can say is that you shouldn't worry about your comment count at the end of the day. I remember being a new member of GameSpot and not receiving any comments on my blog and feeling terrible about it. However, I read a little self-help thing for bloggers and it told me to write a blog just because you want to - don't write it for comments, don't write it for money; just right it for you and because you wanted to. So that's what I do. If I want to say something, I'll say it, but I don't expect anything back.
Now, one last (but insignificant) thing. I actually didn't understand what the purpose of the Wall or how to reply back to people on it when I initially joined the site. So, yeah, I'm guilty of once replying to somebody on my own wall, but I've learned what to do now and don't do it anymore. It's a shame I can't delete my own wall post though - Giant Bomb isn't allowing me to do so for some reason.
We're all guilty of being noobies at one point, right?
haha aj I wrote you a wall post. And its ok your right. I didn't know how to make text a link. Like this. And I had to go to the forums for help. And I learned to only blog when I wanted to. Which is the reason im doing the Every Three thing when I just add a video, because well unlike guys like d-boy I cant seem to think of ideas everyday. Comments are nice, but as long as 1 person is read it, im fine.
Yes Steve I dont get how they think they can become mods, when theve done absolutely nothing.
The root of the biggest problems on Giantbomb is that most of the users have come from Gamespot and they're trying to make this Gamespot 2: The Sequel. We've had a Roll Call and a WAYLT thread already. Those aren't bad, but we're here for something new. Users behave like Gamespot users, which in some cases isn't bad because there are quite a few I love but others are just plain douchebags.
Good points. I only left one message on my wall and that was just so I could have the first message (but someone beat me to it whilst I was typing it up!). I do post videos but not in every blog. I know not everyone wants to keep watching some video about 'my top 10 games of last year' so I try to keep things minimal.
I am posting a blog daily here and hopefully not something so simple like 'Going to bed soon' (Twitter is for that, if you must). I don't post more than once a day purely because of the same reasons you stated. It can make it difficult for people to get through their blogs they want to read and comment in.
As for the mod thing. I think it's rude in a way to ask and Giant Bomb have stated they select moderators based on their contributions. Hmm. Maybe I will be one at some point or maybe not. I'll let them decide on who they think deserves to be one. On GameSpot, I was chosen as a moderator but I never asked. Eventually, I'm sure Giant Bomb will pick out good users when they feel the need to.
You know, I pretty much agree with everything you said here. Multiple blogs a day will have me missing a ton of them, since I track a ton of people. Videos are a big no-no for me, since I cannot watch them on here. Asking to be a moderator when they EXPLICITLY said they were done with searching for them is idiotic.

The whole more then one blog thing I agree, but disagree. Once again I could care less, but i comment on only one and it is whatever one I see first. However if it is like 2 sentences of BS like OMG ( Insert crap here ) then I don't even bother.
Trust me, anyone who posts these things will not become mods. The Big Man (with the bass voice that can calm the gods - yes you Brad lol) sees it and says 'Yeah, pass'.
I agree with everything you said there. We ran a script though that got the Submissions down to 8000 by deleting a lot of the duplicates. But some users are STILL submitting stupid useless things that we have to deny. THAT is an annoyance for me. EVEN though there is still such a huge backlog, USERS have to post MORE JUNK so they can get the top Wiki points. Wiki points are just an added bonus to the site - don't spam mods with useless things to get more of them. Don't get me wrong, I love being a mod doing submissions - but just some things make me mad.
Maybe I should write a blog about this lol... I dunno
Great blog man. I don't ever feel the need to write more than a blog a day. As you can see I have only written a couple blogs in the last week. I try to say something interesting in each one. And I do remember getting no comments on my blog back in the day. It is indeed a sad feeling and I try to comment on as many people's blogs as possible.
I hope you take some comfort in the fact that the moderators were not selected at random. The newest batch of Wiki-only moderators were chosen due to the quality of their submissions and forum posts, among other reasons. The reasons that the original batch of forum moderators were selected varies with the individual, but I assure you the reasons were anything but random. Some of the people from both lists know the staff. Some were active on Comic Vine. Others...who knows?
Here is a list of the Wiki-only moderators. These are, in general, people that were brought on board a few days after launch to help moderate users' submissions.
Now, here is a list of the Forum/Wiki moderators. Look at the profiles and see if you can find any that have anything in common. The reasons why some of these individuals were selected won't be readily apparent to you, but that's OK. I assure you though, these people weren't chosen randomly. =)
Great blog, we have some things in common like how people post on their own walls rather than on others which is pretty annoying. Also the fact that when you comment on other peoples blogs and yet they don't comment back on your own which is pretty pointless to have them as a friend in the first place. But yeah, I hope people's blogs will be more like yours.
