The Austin Walker tweet is valid. You should see the lengths pro-labor activists have gone through over the past 150 years to achieve a better life among the working class and to flatten the power of bosses. You should investigate your own pro-managerial stance on this, why you're doing it, who it benefits, what's at stake when you say these things.

Careers in game development should be actual careers and not five-year stints where you're expected to burnout to crunch and market volatility. The industry has been broken by mismanagement.

Also, any unpaid hours of labor is wage theft, which is the majority of overtime work considering how many people are on salary contract.

I use to be pretty skeptical about the call to vote because I would typically parse out a parenthetical call in there (as in, "vote how I would"). A few years down the line, I see these remarks as necessary, reminding the periodically disenfranchised and the young that their votes are essential in a democratic process. And that's without mentioning how more votes create a better aggregate of representation.

If you're young reader on this board, voting is just the start and is definitely not everything. But it is a decent charity if there is a cause you are willing to support (or prevent). Vote411 dot org is a decent resource to figure out what's on the ballot next week in your area.

Thanks for the great background, OP.

I won't support Rockstar's toxic work culture. $60 is way too much money going toward a massive company that has been exploiting in broad daylight for over a decade. There are so many other, more interesting games to support.

More generally, I don't see myself buying any games from their studios unless something drastic happens.

Once I heard to comments sections as living room spaces, which I found so evocative in its formatting of behavior and moderation. I generally really like comments. I don't visit the site as often, and through the comments sections I can glean what's been happening on the site recently.

Preemptively disabling comments on hot-button posts is also a good idea. Also, closing threads after bad actors come in or if there are even vague signs of some bullshit campaign.

Up front: I strongly disagree with how you see the imbalance of gendered power and its recent social confrontation.

I'll leave this quote from her interview at Top Rope Press:

PWP: One of the most common questions naysayers ask is “Why not just go to the police?” Did you feel this was ever an option for you?

Mo: At the time of the assault I was working as a Crisis Intervention Specialist at a Domestic Violence Shelter/Rape Crisis Center (a job I lost due to repeated triggering because of my own trauma). I have been involved in the fight against domestic and sexual violence my entire life. I am very well versed in the statistic probability of a case like mine being brought to charges, let alone a conviction. The thought of being dragged through the mud and having my most personal trauma scrutinized by men I had worked with previously, knowing that it would get nothing accomplished, made me physically exhausted and ill. Additionally, filing charges against an abuser will often times cause them to retaliate. And when charges/conviction are not likely, the risk of retaliation isn’t worth taking. I also thought I had Elgin on my side, who would hold Orleans accountable in his own community. Obviously, I overestimated Elgin.

People who are engaged with this story have come to a decision based on: a) the realization that the legal system typically disadvantages accusers in sexual assault cases b) Elgin showing himself to be an absolute monster in these conversations.

@bartok: RE: Elgin

This article on Fightful covers enough ground on the story. The accuser, Moses Malone, had been trying for the better parts of a year to bring attention to the sexual assault by her then-partner Sean Orleans, who works at Elgin-owned Glory Pro. Elgin was silent on the matter for months until ultimately meeting Malone's claims with skepticism and condescension. The conversation in the article evidences extremely toxic and unacceptable behavior on Elgin's behalf.

Since that article was written, Elgin has filed a defamation lawsuit against Malone--of which she is currently seeking funds to defend herself. Elgin is throwing money to silence her. Elgin is claiming defamation against a rape victim.

Every blue moon when the production schedule does go a little out of whack it reminds of how often things are done on time and, in turn, duly knocked out of the park. Thanks for all the good work, Vinny and Abby.
