@mostlysquares: Very interesting perspective, thanks - I'm not sure how it worked for the dota2 finals, but would you say something like a spectator cam which is controlled through VR by the viewer would work?
It could be a fixed camera that follows the player, but where the camera looks could be controlled by the head movements of the viewer. That way you could see the character one of the crew is controlling, whilst also getting the full VR experience without feeling sick. You could also have 2d overlays of the 1st person in game perspective and real life camera, which should fit in fine due to the increased screen real estate.
I say that because if I'm watching Dan play a game in VR and he's freaking out about something like the scale of a monster, I want to be able to experience that at the same time, not just think that looks cool I'll have to go play it myself.
It's maybe down to the way I consume games these days. I bought Until Dawn and Life is Strange, but I find it more enjoyable to watch a GB play through of them over playing them myself. With traditional games like this I don't feel like my experience is particularly lessened by not playing them myself, but watching a 2D video of a VR game I think it definitely would be.
@imsh_pl: I guess the problem I see is that if you present VR games as just a flat video you lose a lot of what makes VR cool (immersion etc). You can see this in youtube videos at the moment, where it's difficult to get a sense for what the experience is like by just watching a video.
They could upload a feed for people to view through their own VR headsets, but if you're not in control of your head movements in VR it can make you feel very sick - especially if you have someone like Vinny in control trying to break the game!
Not sure if the guys have talked about this already somewhere, but how does everyone think GB will cover the launch of VR and VR games going forwards?
Obviously VR presents very different challenges in terms of coverage to traditional video games (it's hard to demonstrate a VR game on video to anyone not using VR), and I think it will be interesting to see how things such as Quick Looks are adapted to the new medium - will we be sitting on a virtual couch next to the guys on unprofessional Fridays in 5 years?!
