Game of the Year 2018
Some games...*sigh*...sadly went unplayed.
Notable omissions yet to play: Minit, GRIS, Iconoclasts, Moonlighter, and anything in VR. Many more I'm sure.

Spider-Man is my favorite character. Not just comic character, but character. This was a cathartic experience for me.
What a great surprise. If Supergiant (hands down my favorite developer) had said this wasn't an early access title and was intended to be a short rouge-like ARPG that could be completed in as little as 20 or so runs, I would have believed them. I would still have it this high on my list. The fact that there's more to come is just a cherry on top and I can't wait to see what they do with it.
I loved this game and hadn't really liked a God of War since 1. I loved how much of a metroidvania it is, the world building, how in reach all of the challenges are, and the at times punishing difficulty.
The platforming and message are equally resonating.
I reached the final boss once and died immediately.
I should get back in there.
I played this for the first time this year when it got its PC release. I obsessively gobbled up the narrative over a few days when I was home from work sick. Being sick sucks, but has its perks.
Once they "do the thing" it becomes more of a mixed bag. However, the music alone earned this game a spot on my list.
Despite some complaints I have over the difficulty of backtracking through memories, this is an extremely special and stylish mystery.
This is an honest video game.
