The Comb and Mirror - A Playlist Inspiried by Austin Walker's Extra Life Stream

Playlist is also here if you want to skip the disjointed thoughts and feelings.

I remember staying up last year for the antics of Lang and Scoops to open up Extra Life for the GB Staff, and they crushed it. This year, that task fell to Austin Walker, new to the site (though certainly not to streaming, from what I understand) AND HE ALSO CRUSHED IT. Seriously, right from the start he was keeping it real with us in chat, sharing thoughts about writing, enjoying things, different kinds of mech, and more - all while killing it at Galak-Z and beyond. Along the way, we (big ups to Connor with $1300 to get us there) got him to open a MYSTERIOUS BOX. It had a comb, and a mirror. Oh, and a MYSTERIOUS KEY.

The key just went with the box. Still, it was a great stream, filled with warmth, thoughtfulness, and fun. There was also music. I woke up in time for the last half hour, where Austin was still relatively lucid and showing us why Far Cry 2 was still a dope game - all with some relaxing jazz and styyyle. To that end, I was inspired to get going on some work with some coffee and some jazz. So here it is - The Comb and Mirror. Please, enjoy.

Modal jazz and more, music to have on while you shoot the real shit or just get work deliberately DONE.
If you were watching Austin Walker's Giant Bomb Extra Life Stream (tinyurl.com/GBEXLIFE), you may have been treated to some sweet, sweet jazz during intermissions, Far Cry 2, and maybe more (I admittedly was asleep for a while in the middle).
After the stream went off air, I put on some Miles Davis, made some coffee, and decided I should share some of that love with y'all.

Why this playlist?

My background’s nothing special – into jazz since I started playing the trumpet (someday I’ll go on about Lee Morgan at length, though this isn’t the place for it), into relaxing and funky Japanese jazz and hip hop since my friend first sent me Nujabes in college (he still keeps me supplied with a steady stream of cool stuff, some of which made it onto here). So this playlist is kind of just a “music I personally like” mix, but I also went at with a specific feel in mind, even if I’m struggling to articulate what that feeling is. It can be used to help you relax or fall asleep (I used to fall asleep to Kind of Blue in my headphones in high school – if I was still up by Blue in Green, I was in for a long night), but I wanted tracks that you could have on while you got some shit done, and you did it with meaning and warmth and precision. Whether it’s chatting with friends and playing a game, making that thing you’ve been trying to nail down, or just getting into a book, you can do it at The Comb and Mirror.
