These online heists were and are the the best thing R* has ever done. Each one is hours long and actually fun to play.
Yes, for me at least - GTA 5 Online (especially the heists) is Rockstar's Magnum Opus, followed by Vice City, but that has aged and it perhaps wasn't that good as I remember it.
With three reasonable sane friends you can have many hours of fun with the Heists and the other missions. And since there are different options and different roles they also offer lots of replay value. Hardest difficulty and a tight team is really fun, and sometimes really, really tense. Until you grinded it a bit too much and can do it with one eye shut.
I haven't watched this full video yet, only the first minute of the stream. Waiting for the download.
But I already have some inner questions: * Why do a series in GTA 5 Online now? * Why pre-recorded? * Why stream the pre-record on a live stream? * Didn't you guys (GB crew) hate GTA 5 Online? I have some weak memories of hearing hate, maybe from Jeff. Don't remember, may be wrong. * Will this be fun to watch now, like several years late(er) I (and perhaps most people) was into it? And after it have been played to death on Twitch and Youtube? * How will the editing be? The first minute showed some snappy cuts and a bad attempt at role playing. I really hope they do 2 and 4 screen split screen later on. Or cuts that focus on the most interesting screen for the moment, with perhaps a small PIP and a nametag/icon/photo.
Anyways, will perhaps be back when the video processing is done.
The raw simplistic dynamic between Dan and Mike in this masterpiece of an RTS. Red Alert 2 is a modern classic that still holds up, and is by far my favorite C&C.
Random thoughts: * The bloatware on the laptops. A quick fix would be to just uninstall the "MSI Ultra Gamer Fps Optipro"? A full Windows re-install sounds like a good thing for the future though. * I remember the Lan play being a bit janky in Windows back in the days too. Like not showing up when the other player hosting and so on. Having to switch hosts, checking lobby again and stuff along those lines. * At least with the Yuri stand alone expansion (extremely recommended since it adds more of the good stuff) you can play at a higher resolution. Which will make the HUD less cramped. * Mike, Dan and Vinny work well together, probably the best match on gb right now. Mike also did much for the Goldeneye streams. Focusing on the game, knowing something about it and so on. * It looked like Dan played more (than Mike) versus humans, and usually winning (probably prefered to lure in noobs and smashing them, resulting in them not wanting to play again) , besides rushers ofc. Mike however, he played more like a person that mostly fought AI (which is fun in RA2 too). * To add some value to the interviews and commentary you actually need someone who knows something about the game. Like facts on what unit counters which and the difference between nations. Not just one popping in and asking who will win or watch video tutorials on how to do replays. At the very least keeping up with the matches. Personally I found the stumbling replaying and commentary a bit annoying and it would have been better without it. Replays may be new for GB, but it has been done by "bedroom streamers", youtubers and e-sport coverage teams for over 10 years now.
But to end on a positive note: Probably the best Playdate and content/video/stream from Giant Bomb in 2019. More of this please, and less of the other stuff.
Well, I'm not the focus group for this I guess. But I can see this being a thing for those who want to play games with the least amount of hassle. Scary? Well, there is a potential for bad stuff.
Also, you could have called this video: "Game journalists on high horses throw shit at popular youtubers." I mean, I don't like some of the big and popular youtubers, but a humble approach can sometimes be honorable.
Wow! Didn't expect this entertaining type of content with Dave! Rorie, you said something like "We gotta get you (Dave) and Drew together" when Dave said he mostly plays DCS now. I say, it would be nice if CBS hired both Dave and Drew to make some fun nerdy content for Giant Bomb, like Flight School.
This video also made me a bit sad, cause it showed me how little I care about the majority of modern Giant Bomb content. Most quick looks are on these light casual 1-2h games. Which is the opposite to what I like to see, like Flight School for example. The only thing right now that is interesting is the Goldeneye run.
I was secretly hoping for a third Apex stream or video this third Monday in a row. No such luck, and my fear of them being done with this grew stronger.
But then I saw that Jeff got his first Chicken Dinner so to speak, with randoms. Maybe this will crank up some steam for future gb vids?
