The Saint's Row that made the series fun. 0

The Saints have been dismantled, Saints Row has been transformed from a slum into a high rise commercial zone, and your mission is to build the Saints up as the new Boss. Saints Row 2 is a game that very much conforms to the Open World mold of playing as a mass murdering psychotic out for revenge and to make the world a better place (for you). This game is also markedly better than the first because of the addition of Cooperative play with another friend. That plus the fun open world jank you'r...

The Fighting game that got me to care about Fighting games. 0

I am not a fighting game guy. Fighting games have always been hard for me to grasp and have fun with whether I'm fighting the CPU or other humans. But, for whatever reason, I got totally sucked into the Tekken series and that lasted all the way up to Tekken 5. I would play them excessively for reasons I still do not fully understand. Tekken 1 is the game that ultimately convinced me that we needed a PlayStation in the house and caused me to pester my father until he relented that first Christma...

The most mid-90s of video games. 0

Twisted Metal was one of the first PlayStation games I owned when I was a kid. Released November 5th, 1995, when Christmas rolled around and my dad bought me a Playstation (he wanted the Playstation just as much as I did. I was just his excuse to get one), this was one of 2 games we got for it. As an 8-year-old, this game was the most interesting game I had seen up to that point. You drive a car and drive around shooting other cars with missiles? That seemed pretty cool at the time. Unfortunate...

The Doom that introduced me to Doom. 0

Doom was originally released on the PC in 1993 by ID Software. It was not the first First Person Shooter, but it was the game that sparked a deluge of them ranging from Chex Quest, an FPS promotional game where you play as "The Chex Warrior" to stop an alien invasion, to the popular Call of Duty series where you're a War Fighter trying to stop a human invasion. Doom has been ported to many systems and the quality of those ports varies widely, but the port to the PSX is one of only a few that is...

Reminding me why I like JRPGs 0

Chrono Trigger is one of those games that I regrettably missed growing up. I remember renting it back then but, I remembered almost nothing about it. Playing through the DS remake of Chrono Trigger only confirmed my lack of a memory for this game in that none of it was familiar to me and while I discovered what made this game great, I also found that this game deserved the praise it has received and is one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. The game starts during the Millennial Fair where Crono,...
