A better question would be an honest accounting of how many people bother to flip the seat up first, and how many over-estimate their aiming ability.

I used to be an "up and over", but slowly transitioned to "through the fly" several years ago - provided whatever I'm wearing has a fly, of course. Pulling your pants down just seems like a waste of energy.

@scotto: Isn't that like saying someone would be interested in marathons if they made them shorter, kinda defeats the point of one to a degree doesn't it?

Well maybe, but a marathon is an actual feat of endurance. Giant Bomb "endurance runs" are just "lets play a game over the course of several weeks". They don't even do it all in one sitting and then cut it up.

A shorter game would likely be less oppressive on their schedule, and would be easier to fit into a lull in their schedule - as opposed to the Persona 4 ER, which ran for well over 100 episodes I believe, and took months.

Honestly, I've never understood why they don't do more of them, as they seem to have some prolonged dry-spells over the course of the year, where new games worth covering aren't really coming out - and the subscribers seem to like them a lot.

Maybe they'd be more interested in Endurance Runs if people suggest shorter games.

Kind of a self-defeating argument. Most of the rest of the world uses metric, so the "free market" has already spoken.

Only reason US sticks to Imperial, is because that's what Americans know - unless you're in the sciences or engineering fields, where Americans have largely used metric for a while now

Also, you haven't really argued for why metric is dumb, so much as you've tried to argue that Imperial is "just as good".

Samantha and Leigh are right to speak out against the idiots who are verbally assaulting them today, but I'm a little concerned about Leigh's tweet (I guess since deleted), that "literally everything I write is more interesting than everything most of the GB staff does". Calling out "the GB community", while reductive, is appropriate today - but insulting the actual GB staff like that?

At the end of the day, as Jeff et al. have said repeatedly over the years - Giant Bomb is a personality-driven site, so it makes sense that Jeff would hire people he knows very well, and thus thinks will mesh well with what they are doing. There is absolutely an element of unconscious institutional discrimination to this, because white male writers become friends with other white male writers due to the lack of diversity in the games journalism profession. It becomes a self-sustaining loop, that makes it unduly hard for women and minorities to "break in" to the industry. Acknowledging that fact should not sign you up for an avalanche of hatred.

However, I also earnestly struggle with the idea that Jeff should have consciously decided to hire a certain demographic (though that raises the further question of "then how does it ever get fixed?"). I think people should be hired for Giant Bomb, depending on how well they think the personality will fit. If they hired Cara Ellison as a writer tomorrow (in the same vein as Scoops), I'd be thrilled, because I think she's cool, and a good writer. I think Ryckert was a great hire, because of his interests and personality, and his rapport with the GB guys - and because he has no doubt been signed up to do lots of on-camera work with the guys, where that rapport is important.

At the end of the day, this whole shitstorm is just disappointing, and has overshadowed a couple of great hires I was excited about. I get that some people jump to defend the GB guys, because they perceive them to be getting "attacked" despite not doing anything "wrong", but they are more than capable of taking criticism, and answering it if they decide it needs to be. As for the misogynists in our midst - maybe go find another website to pollute, if you haven't already.

Happy for Vinny, and this is clearly a better deal for him, but I'm otherwise gutted. Losing Vinny from the Bombcast, Unprofessional Fridays, and QLs with the main cast, is going to be a major blow.

He is the best personality on the entire site. Always happy, always hilarious, always energetic.

Personally, I've always thought Alex does his best work in solo videos, sometimes with Patrick, or in writing. I've never really noticed any extraordinary on camera chemistry between Vinny and Alex, but I hope I'm wrong.

In the words of Top Gear - Shenmue was "ambitious but rubbish"

I can respect a game's ambition, while still acknowledging that it was a pretty bad game.
