@prismapunk: Okay, figured. Then yea I'm down for this. I'm not a big Tetris fan but I'm down for something with good music and awesome visuals. Hopefully 7.1 support. Love this trailer.

Not exactly sure if there was a game in what I just watched but it was pretty awesome none the less. Particularly because of the song. Anyone know what it is?

Good game. Great series.

I very much enjoyed them all equally, probably because I started with Demons Souls.

I don't really revisit these games though so if I pick this up it'll be for cheap.

Danika's hearty laugh is adorable. Its reminding me of that cartoony female anime laugh?

@zelyre Nice. The first two are probably more toy-ish than what I'm looking for. That 3D printed one though seems fairly detailed. Those Mad Cat legs don't look like the designs I'm familiar with. Would take a ton of work to clean up the print, "damage" it a bit, and do a nice paint job and weathering. Could be incredible in the end.

That price though..

Extra story: I never considered trying to replicate realistic damage on a model until this one day, roughly 20 years ago, this younger guy my family vaguely knew, he ended up living across the street from my Dad's new place. He invited me over one day and showed me these car models he'd made and they looked like car wrecks! It was incredible to me.. He'd take like blow torches, soldering irons, lighter fluid etc and melt/mold/burn/paint the plastic model kits. He'd make them look like rusted, burnt out chassis in a overgrown junkyard scene and stuff. Blew my mind. So to me that'd be perfect for a mech. Make it the armor look like it's been chipped and dented with bullets and fire. Hydraulic fluids leaking.

@steveurkel: Platinum'd GoW.. Was tied with Monster Hunter for GotY up til this point. Both are very good :P

Monster Hunter is fun, God of War is story/narrative/visuals, BattleTech is very engaging with constant tension and edge-of-my-seat fear every time an Autocannon or big missle salvo is fired. And robot weapon tinkering lol And amazing music. The gameplay strikes a specific tactical chord with me comparable to Final Fantasy Tactics, Front Mission, or Wasteland 2.. all games I super enjoyed.

Also, I guess BattleTech has this absurdly huge, detailed universe that's been built up over 30 years and I never got into it. I played some of the MechWarrior games when I was younger but nothing serious. Now it's fun going back and watching retrospectives on the whole series, learning about the legal battles, all the lore videos explaining the story of BattleTech etc etc. A horrible looking cartoon that I could only watch one episode of, even when I went in expecting it to be old and bad. I even bought one of their "Technical Readout" books off Amazon and it's about 91 Mechs from a certain period of time with backstory, deployment, information, an illustration for each and more. Cool supplemental reading.

I really, really, really wish I could get a 6"-8" tall detailed model of my favorite Mech (I don't know how I could pick) and then create a little diorama scene on a 6"x6" plate with foliage and a blown up vehicle.. Make the Mech look all dirty and war-torn, kept in a small clear display box. I've done some model building and basic painting but I don't think I could pull this off. Plus, it seems all the BattleTech models out there are just tiny miniatures used for the tabletop game.

@msoven: The menus aren't that big a deal, it only seems that way when you're trying to explain everything.

Once you know what it all is (not long, it's pretty much all covered here), then it's just the small break in-between combat. You finish a contract, repair your mechs (typically just click the repair button), spend any XP on your MechWarriors if you want to, then pick another contract. Salvaging new, better Mechs and customizing them to your liking is where the fun is in the menus.

"Managing finances" and showing all that money stuff makes it look more involved than it is. Just look at the overall monthly bill to the left, look at how much money you have in the top right, and see if you're going to go broke before your next contract. Depending on how you play the game, money might not be much of an issue, especially in the end game. I watch others play it though and they get so impatient and whiny about everything in the game, they literally play paycheck-to-paycheck and have 50,000 in the bank, getting their Mechs and MechWarriors obliterated every mission through careless play and wonder why they have no money.

Thanks for doing this QL @vinny. You did about as well as you could under the circumstances.

This game is prime for a weekly feature where Vinny just sits down and plays a mission by himself, sipping some coffee. Talk Battletech, Mechs, Gundams, Transformers etc.. And I'm sure Austin wouldn't mind stopping in once or twice. The more you play this game, the more it absorbs you and becomes addicting. The game opens up after the story mission shown here.

Just finished the story myself the other day. Maybe my GOTY at this point over God of War or Monster Hunter.
