Games I have completed (Current) - New

I keep track of games i have beaten on all platforms I have and on which date I did it. I started it somewhere in 2008 but there were many before which I can't remeber to order of then.

List items

  • 15/10/2022. PC. After returning the Monkey island, I wanted to scratch more of the point and click itch, so on the eve of the 30 year anniversary of the original game, I finally had a chance to play the 20 year anniversary edition. I've been waiting to play it for a while, longer than I realized. I loved the original back in the day, and I can say I think the remake does a mostly good job in recreating and updating the original. The visuals are decent though unremarkable, but the sound and the cast does a great job with material. Some of the puzzles are still incredibly hard, but the new ones are mostly a breeze. The story stills feels very mature and I enjoyed going through it again. I think the remake also has better pacing than the original, limiting you to only certain areas on specific days, making the story feel tighter and more focused. There are some bugs here and there, but mostly they don't detract from the experience. I'm glad I've had the chance to experience this great game again.

  • 17/10/2022. PC. I had a slot of single day open, so I wanted to play something that can be beaten in single seating. I picked the first installment in the Dark Pictures series. It was very cool. The production values are clearly high. It's very much like Until Dawn. The performances are well done and everyone do a great job. The story is a bit of a hit and miss, some stuff doesn't always make a lot of sense, but it's fun nonetheless. You can clearly play more and get different endings. I manages to get everyone to survive except for one, but could have saved everyone if I would have caught on the twist a little earlier. In any case, nice cool game, and if you have the time for it, give it a spin.

  • 3/11/2022. PC. This is the sequel for A Plague Tale Innocence. Production values are quite high and the visuals look great. I think the pacing is a bit problematic, the original game introduced you to concepts more gradually and had less combat out of the gate, while this game assumes you played (and still remember) the previous one, and throws you into harder scenarios much more quickly. Still, it's mostly enjoyable and things get mixed up enough the keep the experience fresh through out. Voice work is pretty great, but lip-sync isn't quite perfect as I would have liked. The story is engaging and has a relatively satisfying ending, with a post credits scene taking things in a completely different direction (if there ever will be one). Overall, a good package, and if you played the original and liked it, this is more of it.

  • 10/12/2022. PS5. This is a worth successor to the God of War game from 2018. It continues the story in a natural way and it feels truly epic. This is a huge game, and the production values are through the roof. The performances by the actors are all great. I particularly liked Odin. The combat feels super tight and responsive and fun to play. There is never a dull moment and there is so many things to do in this game. That also makes it very long, yet it doesn't over stay it's welcome even after 60 hours it took me to complete it. If you have a PlayStation, you should play this game!

  • 14/12/2022. PC. Portal in 2022? Yes! While I've beaten this game many times in the past, this time it was with RTX. It looks better than ever, but it is REALLY heavy on the GPU. My 3080 was struggling to keep decent performance with this game. DLSS is pretty much required. The game is still great as ever, and it was a short and beautiful ride through memory lane. If somehow you still haven't played portal before, WTF are you doing?

  • 28/1/2023. PC. This is a small indie game that is about solving murder mysteries looking at frozen moments in time. A bit like return of the Obra Din, but in 2D. It's a clever implementation. You have to really look into the finer details of the scenarios and come to conclusion based on the characters and the environment. If you like the challenge your brain, this is a fun exercise.

17/5/2023. PC. Finished the DLC: The Spider of Lanka. If you liked the base game, these are 3 more scenarios serving is a prequel. It's more of the same kind of puzzling. Sweet but short.

8/9/2023. PC. Finished the DLC: The Lemurian Vampire. Everything I said about the previous DLC still applies here.

  • 5/2/2023. PC. This is a first person shooter from Justin Royland, one of the creators of Rick and Morty. It has very similar style to his previous games and the show, though not as funny I think. There are some good laughs here and there, but it mostly falls flat. It's a bit repetitive and a bit too long for it's own good. Not enough verity in the encounters. The voice cast is pretty much the best part of the game, as they improv a lot of the dialog. It's an ok ride, but one you can feel free to skip.

  • 6/2/2023. PC. This game was in my backlog for a while and I finally had a chance to go through this gem. It's a very charming and simple game about repairing things. Being a DIY guy, I really liked the experience. There is no puzzle that is really complicated. Everything falls into place pretty easily. The voice acting is also well done. It is very short, taking less than 2 hours to fully complete. It's cheap and nice, so it's an easy recommend.

  • 23/4/2023. Switch. Finished the remastered version. I've never played Metroid Prime before, so this was my first exposure to this game. All those years I thought it was just a FPS game, but I was way wrong. It is a first person METROID game. In retrospect it seems obvious, but having played it now, made me understand why it was so well received and is still well regarded to to this day. It is very solid through and through if you like metroidvenia games. The design shows it's age a bit. There is a lot of back tracking to do, but that is always true for such games. The gameplay is sill great and it was modernized well enough to make it not feel out of place these days. I've enjoyed this game way more than I expected to, and if you like the original or the genre, this one is a good one to pick. Hoping there will be a Metroid Prime Remastered 2 and 3, as this made interested enough to complete the rest.

  • 28/5/2023. PC. This is the remake of Resident Evil 4 which I haven't played since the first time I beat it on the game cube. It was great back then (it revolutionized the industry) and it is still great now. Capcom did a very good job here. The visuals are great, the gameplay was modernized in smart ways, the actors do great job and the gameplay feels tight and fun. When first announced I was skeptical, thinking that RE4 didn't really need a remake as it still very much playable today, but this version is well crafted and was excellently executed. Easy recommended. I wonder where will Capcom go with the next remake (you know they will). They might go with 5, but like I did with 4, I don't think it needs a remake, it's still playable today. I would like them to go with code veronica, but time will tell...

  • 1/6/2023. PC. Played this indie game on gamepass. It's a nice short experience, very reminiscent of Limbo and Inside, but with a less grim story. It has some nice visual and some interesting puzzles. It's a nice short ride and not much more than that.

  • 3/6/2023. PC. This April fools game has more to do with Phoenix Wright than with Sonic. You are mostly solving very simple interrogation scenarios which are very easy. Too easy in fact and present little to no challenge. I really didn't like the "Think" mechanic, as it doesn't actually require you to think, but had a sole focus on collecting rings. It added nothing to the story as felt it was only filler. I think it should have been cut from the game completely. Still, as a free joke game that feels more like fan fic than official (even thought it is official), it's ok and not completely terrible.

  • 4/7/2023. Having played all other Diablo games, I was mostly excited about the latest one. While it is over solid, very stream lined, has the best production values of all of the game in the series, it is still my least favorite one in the series. It's not a bad game by any means, but it also doesn't do enough to get you hooked on the gameplay like the others did for me. It has very fast paced combat, way too much loot, and not enough charm. The story is mostly fines and ends exactly the way you expect it. It feels like the story doesn't really end and it will very likely will continue with an upcoming expansion. The vast majority of the side quests are way too boring and there are way too many to really care about any of them. With friends it can be a fun experience, but for the moment, I don't see myself finishing this game multiple times like I did with all of the pervious ones. It's ok, but I wanted to like it so much more than I did.

  • 22/7/2023. This is a small indie puzzle game that will most likely remind you of portal. It has a unique mechanic allowing you to place 2d photos in your environment as 3d space. It's a unique idea, allowing for some cool puzzles, but I felt that most of them we way to easy, taking me seconds to complete. The optional challenges were significantly more interesting and challenging, but there weren't enough of them. The whole game feels to short, and I believe I would have enjoyed more puzzles. The story is very forgettable and uninteresting unfortunately, but it's no big deal as the puzzles are the most important thing. Overall, it's a nice game, but not a must play.

  • 9/8/2023. PS5. It's been quite a few years ever since the last Final Fantasy I completed. I really liked this one. It was up there with FF IX for me. The gameplay felt fresh for a FF game and while the combat takes some getting used to, once you do it will really allow you to show your skill and make interesting decisions. The story and mechanics feel as they are brand now but sill pay homage to classic FF with summons and others FF tropes. I liked the story, even though it's a bit too long. A lot have been said in reviews about the side quests where the feel a lot less substantial then the main quest, and while true, I didn't find them bothersome our boring and usually has something interesting to them. They are much better than almost of the side quests in Diablo IV which I recently played and felt much better. The graphics look really good and sharp and can put you in awe in some scenes. The music feels epic when appropriate and memorable and was really enjoyable. Overall it's a very good game and a very good FF. If you skipped XIII or XV, don't do this with XVI, it's absolutely worth a playthrough.

  • 27/9/2023. PC. Took a small break from BG3 to play this little gem recommended my Mark Brown from GMTK. It's a lovely puzzle game about understanding foreign languages, concept that I didn't see before utilized to such a level. It has some interesting ideas, and a nice little story and payoff. It's not too long, so if you like puzzles, this is a good one to try.

  • 2/12/2023. PC. While still working on BG3, I had to take a break for the Talos Principle 2. The original is one of my all time favorites, and this is a worthy sequel. It sticks to the same vibe with a lot of philosophy and so many really great puzzles that make you think. It's challenging in a good way, and I never came to a puzzle I couldn't eventually solve on my own. There are some more production values in this came compared to the original, but it's mostly fluff. If you like to original or just in the mood to really scratch your head with some great puzzles, don't skip this one.

  • 25/2/2024. PC. I have been playing this one for a while off and on again until I finally finished it. I love the Remedy universe, and their frequents use of FMV on musical pieces in their games. I love having Sam Lake with the original voice of Max Payne. I loved most of the idea of the game. However, as much as I wanted, it didn't grab me and I didn't fall in love with it. It good, it was nice, but at times hard to follow and I wished it more like Control which I think is a better game. It looks and sound great. But I think it didn't live up to it's potential. It's a good game, but not a great one.

  • 27/2/2024. Switch. I finally got around to playing the last Ace Attorney games I have yet to play through The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (which include both of the games). This is pretty much you standard ace attorney adventure, albite with a brand new cast, as it is set during the early 1900. It's pretty good over all, I've enjoyed the first game as much as I enjoyed the others in the series. I only had 2 issues with it. One is the Sherlock Holmes deductions (or Herlock Sholmes as he called in the English version), which are always wrong and take way too long. As he goes through the deduction you know it's wrong from the beginning, but you still have to go through it entirely even though you know the rest of the deduction is based on incorrect information. I wish you can adjust the deduction as you hear it for the first time instead of having to go through the entire thing. The other issue is the end is not fulfilling. It feels like half the story and there are many unresolved threads by the end. I guess the sequel will resolve these threads, but as a stand alone game, you won't get all the answers by just playing this one. Otherwise it's a good game, compelling cases, nice animations and pretty good sound track. If you like Ace Attorney, you will like this one, and if not this won't change your mind.

  • 27/3/2024. Switch. That's it, the last Ace Attorney game I have yet to play now done. This completes the story from the previous game. You should only play this if you played the previous one as it doesn't stand on it's own. If you have played the first game, this provide meaningful and satisfying resolution to all the open threads that were left open in the previous game. Thankfully, this game doesn't leave any open threads or questions and everything is resolved. overall it's a good game, one of the better ones in the Ace attorney series.

  • 8/5/2024. PC. Finally finished Lies of P. Took some time to finish it as I was on and off playing it (blame Balatro), but finally got it done. This is a VERY GOOD souls like. It's hard to believe it wasn't made by From Software. The gameplay is very polished and tight. It takes a lot of inspiration from Sekiro while the art style is very similar to Bloodborne. It looks quite good and feels just right. It has an okay story, but that is not the focus. It has some unique mechanics and fun overall. If you like the soulsborne games, you will very likely enjoy your time with this game. Highly recommended.
