Na, something is up that means even with the new drivers some users get the stuttering still and some get these terrible drops (possibly while loading assets if the menu UI code is anything to go by then at least one of those code paths is flat out busted). I doubt they set the priority of the task to Low so that can help but also this game needs a patch.

I can run 1080p Medium noAA and get basically the same framerate and occasional drops as 1440p Ultra 8xMSAA. Marginal different in frequency of the drops but nothing major, which is why everyone is saying this game is weirdly CPU-bound on PC (despite running just fine on a large tablet SoC - the Jaguar cores in the XB1 are not desktop-class core). When running an uncapped framerate, this game rarely get near 100% GPU load on any of those settings.

GeForce Experience actually recommends 8xMSAA as their ~60fps default for my 1070. Even their test servers showed that the GPU wasn't being loaded and cranking up the MSAA didn't make a major difference to perf.

I think it's probably MSAA bombing the fps. I still don't have my copy available because i didn't pay 100 euros but i'll rock a gtx 970 , so i hope that it's just the demanding msaa that is causing trouble to jeff.

Ok, so I've been griping about some of the incantations* you need to invoke to avoid stuttering (if the new drivers didn't fix it for you) but even I've not had it drop that badly (into the 20s) while not really doing anything as happens in the start of the video. And I'm running 1440p Ultra (except shadows, they just don't look good at full res - too much flickering under foliage) on an OC 1070.

* eg: set task priority to Low (a trick from Apex that fixes some framerate issues); setting the GPU to run flat-out all the time rather than adaptive power profile; give up on the upgrade UI not being a bad joke about the intern writing shipping code.

Guys, this Quick Look is in 1080p! o_O

Ya, interesting choice as the bitrate is unchanged so it's a lot more "YouTube-y" for lack of a better word.

Hey! That robot they're using is a free asset on the Unity store called "Space Robot Kyle."

No Caption Provided

I recognized it because I've used it for various internal prototyping purposes.

I mean, I understand using freely available assets for prototypes, but they couldn't even manage to change anything about that model save for a couple of texture paint overlays? Does that bother anyone else besides me?

It would only bother me if it was so repetitive as to be immersion-breaking.

Like the Unity look of older 3D indie games (pre Unity 5 shader/lighting revamp) or even the Unreal Engine 3 desaturated look - when the stock settings for an engine have bled into the games built with it so that they start to all look the same (sometimes for very understandable reasons of technical limitations but often because people all used the settings at default values because of no artistic direction that caused them to change them). Same thing for legal asset use - I don't really mind that 50% of all virtual trees are spat out by a SpeedTree algorithm and so some of them are really really similar between games. Except when it becomes so common or similar that I'm dragged out of the experience by it.

Space Robot Kyle is pretty 'generic robot' and vehicle drivers being rather generic is A-ok with me. Actually I'd rather a game buy in some pre-made avatars and give players options rather than limiting us to all use the same asset, even if it's unique to the game. Not to say Forza Horizon 3 brought in their new range of avatars but I like that they've got a choice now vs earlier games in that series (even if those games rarely show your avatar during normal play).

Ok, this gets this game right to the top of my most wanted list:

I'll take a space horror game from a studio with System Shock DNA.

thing I dont like about F6: apex is i can't install it on my gaming ssd, since it isn't my C: drive.

Settings (the Modern UI/Win 10 one, not Control Panel) > System > Storage > New apps will save to...

This will make a WindowsApps folder in the root director of the drive you select and new apps will install there.

Settings (the Modern UI/Win 10 one, not Control Panel) > System > Apps & Features > Select F6: Apex in list > Move...

This allows you to move installed Windows Store apps between drives that are already installed.

No, I didn't realise either of those things were an option either when I first started using the Store. Then I started downloading these Win10 Store games and had to hunt down how to get round this UI design that doesn't ask you where to install thing (and hides all the files in a folder the local admin user doesn't even have read access to - a protection that not even the system files for the OS are stored under, meaning no mods are easy to install, etc. UWP is a pretty dangerous land-grab by MS to remove ownership of the computers we use).

This was a great playdate (and even a real date in one of the games). Can't wait for Austin to return but great going Vinny and Alex with getting all this up and running. Cool to sample through several games for a change of pace.

It's sad to see the Beastcast falling for the same trap by believing agenda driven narratives without looking into them.

It saddens me that I can't take anything either the Beastcast or the Bombcast crew says seriously anymore. They have diminished themselves to a mere site you go to for a few laughs. Which is fine too I guess.

Please stop being a joke. Dozens of Steam reviews were there, plain as day, for anyone to read and actually look at the source of the issue rather than having to "pick a side to trust". There was no agenda-driven narrative - there was the fact that the many transphobic reactionaries who regularly harass us online turned their Sauron-like eye towards this and started spewing transphobia about how dare someone include trans characters in "their" [the reactionary's] game.

Hell, we got it even on here.

The crew talked about the facts of the matter, not the incoherent spin you're trying to play as reality. Please, grow up.

We're not going away. Claiming that this wasn't a transphobic pile-on combined with yet another misogynistic attack on a specific developer is disingenuous or ill-informed. I'm glad the people with a bigger mic, on the podcasts, are more informed than you are.

@hurtfulmadmax: The shit has definitely hit the fan in the past few hours. :(

@rorie, this might be a good time to stop the thread.

Right. Better shut down these comments before anyone finds out that Nintendo was 100% justified in firing this person.

No, sex work stigma/wh*rephobia is a form of employment discrimination and contributes to a significant volume of abuse and harassment. Just because a company is not being exceptional in their abusive policy does not justify that policy [assuming the speculation in this thread is accurate].

Stop trying to score cheap points in your trash ideological crusade against gaming being for everyone by reinforcing the notion that sex workers are less than human and so deserve less rights and protection.

@rorie: As with the OP quoted above: the thread probably needs locking down to prevent it going off the rails entirely. Sorry for this ruining your (and the other mod's) Sunday morning.
