Skeetz: Best of 2010

My favourite games this year; all but one is a sequel or an extension of an existing franchise, and even that one is a spiritual descendent of another, similar game. I doubt my list will be the same as most people's but these are the games I've enjoyed the most this year.

List items

  • Story, graphics, music, voice acting and most importantly great gameplay combine to make the best game of 2010. Improved over the original in almost every way. Cannot wait for Mass Effect 3.

  • Close second on my list. Huge open world, filled with great chatacters an engaging story that builds to one of the most memorable endings of the year.

  • I have been a fan of Final Fantasy games for a while, and im amazed at how they come close to completely reinventing the gameplay every time. Graphics are some of the best of this generation, which helps to draw you into the world. Gameplay has extended from the Gambit system in FFXII which evolves the turn based action battles from the PS1 era into ones with more strategy.

  • The colour pallet change after the prologue helps give this game the best atmosphere for 2010. Gameplay draws on the developer's previous game Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy which gives the game a tactile feeling to every action made by the characters.

  • Bungies swansong to the halo franchise. Bungie has made this style of FPS for about 10 years, and by learning from each successive game, thay have made the ultimate Halo game.

  • Using the game engine from the Dirt and Grid franchises the developer can concentrate on emersing the player into the world surrounding the bubble of Formula 1.

  • Whats impressive about this game is how much of the PC version has been ported intact. An immensely addictive game that can eat hours of your life with ease.

  • The ultimate social music experience. Individual insturment and band challenges for each player help give more structure to the game.

  • Even though the core gameplay hasnt changed much since the original versions, its simple pickup and play nature suits handheld gaming.

  • If you can look past what seems like 100s of bugs, a good game lies underneath fighting to show you an engaging world that can entertain you for hours upon hours.
