Does your wife or girlfriend hate it when you game??

The following was written by TheImpetuousOne at STLGamer.wordpress.com:

Hello all, I wrote this in 2007 but the facts remain the same today.

When you and the fellas get going on some Gears of War, NBA Live, Madden. . . people just need to understand, WE NEED THIS. Ladies we love you but sometimes we need to sit back and be men... so understand we need our time.

In Tyler Perry's "Daddy's Little Girls” Gabriel Union's character says she's looking for "a black man with good credit, who speaks grammatical English and who doesn't play video games."

Ok, wow....What's the problem? That's like saying I'm looking for a black woman who doesn’t like shopping and/or fashion. Don’t get me wrong I know it can get bad... fellas if you want to play XBOX360, PS3 or Wii more than you want to be with your lady then you need to take a look at your life and get your priorities together. A form of affection should be higher priority than beating the Heat on your NBA Live Season. Please ladies AND men give your loved ones just a few hours to get some gamage in . . .

Yes, ladies game too.

The average age for a video game player is about 30, a number slowly increasing as people that were kids playing the first arcade, console and home computer games continue playing now on current systems. The gender distribution of gamers is reaching equilibrium, according to a 2003 study showing that 57% of gamers are male and 43% female. (ESA report on the sales, demographics and usage data of the industry)

Wow 43 percent, that's a lot of women. If you're out there reading this ladies... Will You Marry Me? Haha, I'm just kidding I'm married, but seriously its just a sign of the times... 20 years ago men got together and had poker night. Now . . . we game. It's not just another night of the week... it is the very fabric that keeps man sane... the comraderie and competition mends all wounds of the world and act as catalysts to propell the patrons of gamage toward a better mood... a better state of mind so we can deal with the weight of life, work and relationship.

To all my gamers out there, men and women alike, keep gaming. . . Maybe I'll see u out there on XBOX|Live

I avoid getting involved with people who are very much into gaming. I spend a lot of time at the computer (career obligation) not to mention for my personal projects. Then throw on some time from gaming on consoles. The last thing I need is someone else being pre-occupied with the same things, when I'm ready to spend time with them. I don't come from the school of thought that "the person I sleep with has to be into all the exact same stuff I am into!", anyway. If I enjoy bowling, I can go bowling with my friends.

Of course, I also avoid living with people I'm seeing in any serious manner, because spending too much time with someone is a sure way to grow tired of each other. Especially if people's habits tend to easily drive you fucking insane, like they do to me. I don't have to justify what I'm doing, check my schedule against theirs, or catch them int he bathroom with the door open.

A tiny bit of me definitely dies inside, however, when most of my male friends can't go do something or hang, because "my wife won't let me" or other depressing bullshit.

My fiancee (who lives with me) doesn't mind at all. She rarely games with me, but I think I've found a good balance of her-time and game-time, so there haven't been any problems.  Maybe I just got lucky, because she seems to totally get it.

And I play a LOT of games.

I don't have a partner, so they don't have a issue with me gaming. Though my parents are much displeased at their child playing too much games.

Any game that is online Splitscreen compatible, (Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, Guitar Hero etc) my wife and I play against our friends who do the same. Our L4D2 party is pretty good too.
Other than that she spends her time on this "Warcraft" thing.

Nope, in fact she likes watching over my shoulder. I'm lucky, she used to date a WoW addict/asshole, so it was a somewhat slow process for her to accept that I'd rather spend time with her than the games. Now she's helping me solve puzzles in Sam and Max and freaking out at Alan Wake.

I reckon girls will like games as much as guys, but it won't happen till games are developed with females in mind. Not to say girly games, but when you look at the majority of top selling videogames, they normally involve a blokey male running around killing things with guns. Can't see a female finding that entertaining?

My girlfriend is pretty cool with gaming. She tries to play with me on a few co-op games, but she's not quite got the hang of it yet. That said, she treats some games like "movie night" and makes a bucket of popcorn and watches me play. It's an intriguing experience, and one I gladly have with her.

Our run through Dead Space was hilarious because of her reactions.

I think she's more bothered by me TALKING about games. And I can go kind of deep with it, so I'm sure it's foreboding because she was never a huge gamer, but I can just bring it up and talk for hours about A GAME, not like how other people just run through a list of things that are coming out eventually.

She doesn't mind. She occasionally plays too. The only thing she asks is that I'm not one of those guys who idolizes gamer girls. Given that I do not and understand her dislike for both groups, we get along perfectly.

I love playing video games, and I try to be around friends that love it as well. But if you have a girlfriend around, you should focus on her more than the game, and if you really want to play a game, find a game she wouldn't mind playing as well. Then again, I'd only get with a girl who's almost as nerdy as me, which surprisingly isn't as hard as you'd think. A lot of girls have siblings older or younger that have played games so they can remember back to memories as a child playing games with or without someone else in which helps them not care as much and delve into your own interests as well. Ok, I'm tired. Sorry if that made no sense... or typos or something.

My fiancée doesn't play as often as me, but she does play games like The Sims, Harvest Moon, and Civilization. She also likes to play Nazi Zombies with me every now and again as well. She gets on me sometimes about how I'm always talking, reading, and thinking about games though.

Her and I enjoy a strong relationship though, and we both love to bitch and complain about how stupid everyone else is. We enjoy making fun of crappy movies together, watching bizarre videos on stileproject together, etc.

As said. Just prioritize your girlfriend and your gaming (as well as other commitments) and you'll be super.

Anyone that loses a girlfriend cause they can't give up gaming a few hours is pathetic or they dont really like the girl.

Nah she likes to watch.
Awww yeah.

Unfortunately she's pretty bad at playing most games...just cannot get the hang of the right analogue stick controlling the camera, but she loves to watch me playing story based games.
It's kind of like watching a movie together...only waaaaaay better.

Maybe she's just trying to fool me by acting like she's good at games and stuff.

She games too, although not as much as me. If your GF do not like that you game, dump her. I mean seriously people should not be together if they are not compatible, or not for any longer period of time. Just tap that til you get tired, dump her, go back to gaming ;)

And prioritizing is total BS. If she does not want you to do something you enjoy, tell her to fuck off. She should do something SHE wants instead of bugging you about entertaining her.

She usually doesn't mind, but it can come up in an argument (on something totally unrelated of course). I am hoping for the Kinect to get her into gaming, she did play a little Sega and Sonic Racing with te kids but that is about it. She spends a lot of time on the internet though so she doesn't crave my attention all the time.

No one I know plays games and most think its a complete waste of time. Which is good in one sense because It means I have alot of different hobbies and things to do with my friends other than playing games all night. I think if I did meet a girl who liked games more than me it would freak me out lol

My girl is great. We just finished everything on boarderlands together. Plus she just picked up and finished my copy of arkham asylum.
Its a major way for us to relax together, sitting down with a nice cup of tea and a game like co-op res 5.
I wouldn't live with someone who didn't like one of my big hobbies.

Bet my girl could beat you all at cod too haha :P

I usually stop when she gets home. I finish work way earlier than her and by then I have been playing a couple of hours. She also sleeps more than me, cant complain about that .

When I buy a house I want to make a dedicated Home Theatre / gaming room.
