There's definitely more to it than that (can't discuss here obviously), but that's a nice interpretation. Plus after all, the way language and communication unites and divides us is a clear theme of the game and it fits into that groove as well.
Honestly, I have to wonder if it would have any affect at all, as Atlus USA often uses mostly non-union actors. I believe it was one of the reasons P4's cast got gradually replaced, as several of the actors went union in the interim between P4's original release and Golden/Arena.
That can't be right, the main cast was mostly, if not entirely, already well-established guild VAs. Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Johnny Yong Bosh, Yuri Lowenthal, etc
With highly acclaimed, award-winning voice actors like Wil Wheaton behind this? There's no way it can fail!
Nah, but in all seriousness, I really hope this will make some headway because video game voice actors definitely deserve better working conditions/pay (as do the people making the games themselves!), but I have no idea why Wil Wheaton has so constantly been one of the "hot names" mentioned on all gaming news sites in regards to the potential VO strike.
Then again, I have no idea who actually cares about Wil Wheaton in general, so maybe I'm not the best guy to ask?
I went down a deep /r/metalgearsolid rabbit hole and got sucked into all the Episode 3 speculation. Seeing Camp Omega as an MP map just makes me sad it wasn't in TPP as promised.
I was waiting for Jeff or Dan to pick up on the fact they were playing in camp omega on the black site map.
I'm sure that Jeff and Dan noticed that the Black Site map is Camp Omega, they just didn't say anything because, as Jeff expressed on the podcast he doesn't entertain or give credence to any theories of cut content. It isn't unbelievable they would reuse assets, and it makes prefect sense that they would, to make a different map area.
"I'm glad to see that all these Metal Gear Online maps are original content instead of just being, like, maps from the single player."
(literally every single map they'd played so far was a converted single player map)
Boy, Drew sure does love to do all his sneaking missions in broad daylight wearing all black on a light-coloured background... The question is "why?", though...
And since this is a Metal Gear Scanlon comment section: You're doing it wrong! This makes me irrationally angry! That thing you did with the thing should have been done with a thing instead of a thing!
This logic always confuses me, as if there's some kind of fun in watching people completely misunderstand the basic gameplay mechanics (thereby making the game more frustrating for the players as well.)
It goes hand-in-hand with the other Metal Gear Scanlon sentiment you see in comments: Namely, that expecting them to read the manual or run through the tutorial is somehow demanding that they have a perfect pro run or something.
