I like him too, but I kind of think he needs to tone it down just a hair. He's got great in-ring stuff, but I thought he was just a little too "busy" with all the twitchy dance moves and dabs. He's certainly got a future, I just wished he was a little less hyper.
And I really thought I'd see more chatter for the CWC stuff from last night. I thought this episode was damn near bullet proof, with one match in particular that kind of melted my brain a little bit.
Tajiri v Slater
Decent/hard hitting match, I've always liked Tajiri's kicks, and he didn't disappoint, but the outcome was pretty much inevitable. Tajiri had to win in order to elevate the guy who will eventually beat him. There's no scenario I can think of where Tajiri loses in the first round. Still, entertaining to see him do his stuff again.
Perkins v Mack
Fun match, lots of energy, but as I've said already, Perkins could maybe tone down his gimmick just a bit. Dude was probably super excited to be there, and has the charisma, I just think he could use a little more "show" and a little less "showboat".
Ali v Dorado
THIS MATCH! Holy shit this match might have been the best thing since God created turnbuckles! Another match where I didn't know either of these guys from dirt, but a match where I screamed "WTF!" at least 3 times. I have no idea what that move was called when they both came crashing down, off the top rope, from the corner, but I lost my damn mind. I need to watch that thing again. I loved both of these guys and really didn't see a weakness in either of them.
Johnson v Tozawa
I also thought this was a great match and hope that this might set the tone for what this tournament should be going forward. I looked at Johnson and thought there was no way he was going to touch Tozawa, but I was happily, happily surprised. The outcome was what I thought it would be, but the presentation was just top shelf stuff. The in ring work, and especially the commentary, really lifted this match up. Johnson maybe could have used a few seconds to sell some moves, but both guys told a heck of a story, along with the commentary, to help draw me in and make me believe that the match could go either way. A great finishing match and all four matches were something I'd gladly buy a ticket to watch. CWC might end up being something huge after all.
