I would like to find out which PS2 model is the most silent. There are some threads on the internet about this topic, but I did not find a good answer. So I believe there are people who still care about this question.

The idea is to collect information in this thread about user experiences, and then try to rank the models. The idea is to find the models with the LEAST annoying noise, not accoding to decibels. Noise to be taken into consideration: Primarily fan noise but also laser unit noise (when playing normal dvd game disks).

I also believe some PS2 models (at least the slim models) have fans with both a low speed and a high speed, which kicks in after 15 minutes or so.

List of all PS2 models:

SCPH-10000 (Japan only)

SCPH-3000x

SCPH-3900x

SCPH-5000x

SCPH-7000x

SCPH-7500x

SCPH-7700x

SCPH-7900x

SCPH-9000x

I own a 3900x model and a 7500x slim, and also previously owned a 9000x. In my opinion, the 3900x is the loudest of these, with an annoying high pitch whining noise from the fan. Second is the 9000x model, which is definately more pleasent than the 3900x, but has a really high pitch side-noise from the fan. Can't remember if this was only when fan is running on high speed. The best one is the 7500x, which has a pretty low pitch noise. On low speed it is very silent, and on high speed it is tolerable. Laser unit is also pretty silent.

Edit: based on my experience, the SCPH-5000x is much more silent compared to many other models.
