When you're talking about people's minds, is it really possible for a statement to be true 100% of the time?

Now, I'm no Psychology major, but I would argue that perhaps your personality traits are merely conflicted. Say one would possess an "honesty" trait, but that same person also has a compassion trait, or a fear of confrontation. In this situation I could easily see someone choosing dishonesty in favor of sparing this persons feelings. In this context at least, one trait could win out over another.

Also, aren't environmental influences and their effect on personality the entire basis of Behaviorism? I don't think I would agree with the statement that we are born with personalities.

Again, I'm not a Psychology major, so please forgive me if my statements are highly uninformed.

Yeah, OP's pile isn't so bad. Especially because those are all recent games. I used to have some really bad buying habits, and I spent most of 2010 beating most of my games. I'm now down to a nice healthy backlog.

  • Wind Waker
  • Paper Mario 1000 Year Door
  • Dead Space
  • Red Alert 3

Your's is just fine. It just means you need to play some games. My backlog had about 50 games in it when I started, and when it's that long cuts have to be made. I sold games, traded games, and some I just decided I didn't like and uninstalled them (steam, can't sell/trade). I've realized now that it's important to have good buying habits. 1 game at a time is my mantra. Play it until you're bored or you've beaten it.

For all the people playing through their pile of shame, the one piece of advice I can give is this; Remember. this is supposed to be fun. I ran into some serious trouble where I didn't care about the games in my backlog anymore, and I didn't want to focus on finishing games, I just wanted to enjoy playing something. DO NOT allow games to turn into a chore. If you're not having fun, stop playing.

This argument would be valid if the Xbox 360 version wasn't $20. Has the games quality decreased? No. Has the market value? Yes.

PS3 owners have a right to be angry when other platforms pay a third of the price for the same game.

Also, really? $3000? My PC cost me $500, which is less than a launch PS3. I thought we were past this.

You're forgetting that prices have much less to do with the projected value of a product and everything to do with competition. When everyone charges $60, then it is a fair price. But when competing against Steam and it's ridiculous sales, $60 begins to look a bit outrageous. If the consumer is used to buying games for cheap, you are going to struggle whilst convincing them to spend more.

I'm not saying $60 is unfair, but I will say that it turns me off from buying a game new. I'll sit back with a stack of budget games (Torchlight, League of Legends, Trine) and enjoy them plenty while I wait for these high price AAA titles to end up on a Steam weekend for $10.

Heresy.

I 'm happy to see something other than a shooter being enjoyed by a lot of people. I love me some FPS, but it's far from my favorite genre, and it's always good when other types of games get some love.

I got:

PB Winterbottom
Monkey Island Special Edition Pack
Machinarium

Didn't buy very much, but I'm trying to be realistic as to what I will actually play. Overall, I wasn't too tempted by anything. I probably should have bought Mass Effect 2 for $10, but I don't mind waiting for the price to drop again. I thought about Bad Company 2 at $7, but I figure for multiplayer I'm probably just gonna reach for Counter Strike when it's time to shoot people, and I hear the SP isn't all that.

Mine would have to be, in no particular order:

  •  Audiosurf
  • Tetris
  • Counter-Strike
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3
  • Burnout Revenge
  • World of Warcraft
  • Garry's Mod
  • Guild Wars
  • Braid
  • Lumines

I'm hoping for:

  • Shank $5-10
  • Mass Effect 2 $10
  • Geometry Wars (it's already at $4, so if it drops at all I'm buying it.)

Overall, I'm just gonna sit back with some money and buy whatever looks crazy and cheap. Which, now that I think about it, is a pretty dangerous way to shop on Steam. I'll probably need to set a budget. Either way, I'm excited.

I think it's important to remember what makes PC games unique in the first place, it isn't just the mouse and keyboard. It's the open-ness of the platform.

I see people pointing out the "Big franchises" on the PC, and how they're being migrated to consoles, however;

  • Garry's Mod is not on consoles
  • Minecraft      is not on consoles

The kinds of crazy things that exist on the PC simply don't work on other platforms. Have you played a console fps on Legoland? How about Mario Land? Yeah, it's nonsense, but it's something that you can only do on the PC.

Something else that's interesting is the rise of the F2P model, which is doing quite well on the PC. League of Legends has found great popularity, Turbine has doubled their income from both their MMO's. If you want to know how to make money on the PC, it's all about Free to Play.

Yes, this is entirely possible on a console as well, but currently this business model is found mostly on PC, in the same way that Brick and Mortar Triple A sales are found on consoles. Bringing in customers is super-easy when the initial startup price is nothing. This effect is multiplied by the fact that everyone already has a computer. You can talk all day about how PC gaming is dying, but I personally think this is the future.

I buy games on PC. I think consumer side, the PC is the better place to be. The PC games I buy tend to cost far less than the 360 games I've bought, and I honestly don't get why people pirate games on this platform. Is pirating Left 4 Dead 2 really worth all the effort of troubleshooting it when you could just buy it on sale for $5? As far as downloadable stuff goes, I tend to lean towards the PC there too. Not only are they cheaper, but that library of downloadable games will still be there after I upgrade my computer. When the 360 eventually gets phased out, do you think the next platform will let you carry all that content over from your 360? Maybe, but that's not a risk I really wanna take.

I don't have a list so much as a budget... which I haven't decided on yet.

I'm just waiting for the Steam sale to get crazy.
