C4's 2023 Game of the year list

My 2023 top ten list is here, had another busy year my gaming was dominated by last year's games for the first 1/4 then Tears of the kingdom for the middle 2/4 of the year leaving not a lot of time left for this year's releases. I did my best to get to most of them, I haven't had time to play Resident Evil 4 Remake yet despite RE:4 being one of my all-time favourites and loving the remakes of RE:2 and 3.

mortal kombat 1

Street Fighter 6

Spiderman 2

jedi survivor.

despite liking the previous entries in all those series.

  • the best game this year, amazing that a seemingly recycled game can open up in to so much more than even the previous games its based on was. loved it for well over 100 hours which is what has given this enough to beat #2. took me from release until September to finish this.

  • loved the first game so was excited for the sequel before it ever had a good review. It was the best 20 hours I had gaming this year, if it was longer, it would have been less great, its pacing and ability to get so much out of the mid-scale environments is truly marvellous. binge played this I couldn't put it down, the sheer scale and duration that #1 kept my attention is why this isn't #1

  • Valhalla DLC, I Stand by Ragnarök being the best game ever made, and this DLC is marvellous but putting DLC even Free DLC as #1 or #2 over the two best games this year would be unfair. DLC doesn't really count so this top ten list will be 11 items.

  • Return to form for the Kiryu character, both 5 and six had somewhat dull stories.

    yakuza kiwamii 2 is still the best im the series, however.

  • I don't like turn based games much, I've never been into dungeons and dragons (I did like the recent film) but that was irrelevant this is a very well made very Indepth game you can tell was made by a passionate and dedicated team, wish I could have a project this scale for some of my favourite series. if your interested at all youll love it, if your not you may still love it. My character, Rouge-halfling, blonde female and named lofty.

  • Outstanding co-op experience, will gladly play remnant 3

  • Fantastic little game, in my opinion at least 25% too long, I was invested enough to stick out the ending (enjoyed the story don't change it just shorten it)

  • solid, well made golf game these are alwasy fun for half a dozen plays and this is one of the better ones.

  • Play the new F1 game every year on my Racing simulator, this one is good, it has the Breaking point story mode that seem to be in every other year, its better than EA's first try last year but I think 2020 is still the best this series has been.

  • I loved "Papers Please" this is the first-person border guard papers please I didn't know I wanted, great fun for the 10ish hours I played it.

  • Gm mode, didn't play a single match, just played with gm mode with my mates, got my money's worth will buy next years game for Just GM mode again, its Rad.
