My 2010 Games of the Year

List items

  • I expected so little and got so much. Completely blows GTAIV out of the water; an incredible epic western adventure and the most immersive games of the year. RDR is the first Rockstar game ever to really click with me.

  • Few games will have their very existence questioned quite so much as BioShock 2. The original was a brilliant standalone experience, but the sequel doesn't destroy the fiction while vastly improving many of the gameplay flaws of the original.

  • A new direction for the Splinter Cell series, and a welcome one at that. Doesn't quite blow me away like Chaos Theory, but it's a ton of fun, there's loads of ways to play it and the storytelling surpasses most action games.

  • It adds 10-12 hours to the best game of 2009. What's not to like? It establishes some pretty fascinating conflicts for a sequel, and there's plenty of fun to be had in Amaranthine.

  • Probably the surprise of the year. Made by an incredibly small team, Toy Soldiers is simply one of the best tower defence games I've ever played. It's brilliantly simple and simply brilliant.

  • The first console game I've played that really compelled me to play multiplayer. A brilliant hybrid of class-based third person shooting and DOTA-meets Tower Defense creep waves. If I had a better internet connection, I would play much much more of it.
