This show's premise is so rad, and the characters have the coolest set of tools I've seen in an anime in a long time... But man is it boring in practice. Seems like the game follows suit. Bummer.
You want to blame Omega Force for how simplistic this looks, since repetitive gameplay is kinda their whole thing, but it's gotta be hard for a developer to build a whole game on one season of a show, especially when the show moves as fucking glacially slow as this one.
Maybe a few years from now when there's more actual show to build on, they can take another shot.
After seeing that first person view I want someone to make a game where you have to play as the first person cameraman in a third person shooter.
You have your own gun and secretly have to protect the protagonist (and yourself) while getting the best shots of the action. First person shooter but also Pokemon Snap, basically.
Did Brad or Dan play the Swapper? Because what they showed seems like pretty much the same mechanic as the Swapper, kinda surprised no one called that out in the quick look. Hopefully there's more of the stealth mechanics than puzzle stuff?
Don't mean to be a bummer, but I think this quick look actually made me less excited to play this. I still really want to, if only for the gorgeous art and atmosphere, which is really the main reason I liked Limbo as well.
Brad: "Let me know if you can see any obvious tells in this boss here, it seems totally random"
Dan: "It looks like he does a football stance when he's gonna charge forward, and points up when he's gonna jump"
Brad: "No I don't think so, must be something super subtle I'm missing"
This is why I love Dan and Brad quick looks. They just process information in video games in such completely opposite ways, it's kind of insane. Which is to say, Dan takes things at absolute face value, which is generally the best idea in video games, and Brad is like trying to look past the screen into the matrix to stop the bullets.
For some reason watching this made me think a Dynasty Warriors MOBA would probably actually be pretty rad.
Killing thousands of creeps, powering your character up mid battle, playing the Yellow Turban Rebellion in a 5 on 5 match... and I can only imagine how awesome Lu Bu's ult would be.
Can't wait to watch this. My main hope with this game is they'll go the Minecraft route - sell enough to where they can continue to update it and keep adding more systems and content to keep it fresh. It absolutely seems like the kind of game where you could keep adding and adding forever.
