Okay, now I have to listen to the deliberations on music. Because the NieR: Automata soundtrack is beyond amazing, and one of the best soundtracks I've heard in years, but I'm guessing most of the staff didn't really notice it initially.
Good list! I'm enjoying reading people's experiences playing Nier:Automata, and I can appreciate it - but the bummer nature of it makes me hesitant to play it.
The game can be rough, but the (true) ending was one of the most emotionally uplifting experiences, and just plain one of the best endings, I've seen in a video game. It's like watching a Makoto Shinkai movie and finally having having a positive ending. Easily up there with the ending of Earthbound.
"Wolfenstein II has one simple message: fuck Nazis."
Well, yeah.
If you told me 2016 that this phrase would become controversial and the government admitted to seeing UFOs in 2017, I would have said you're crazy. At least the games were great this year.
Automata and BotW were also in a deadly battle for 1st place for me, though it looks like a lot of people liked BotW just a tad more than I did. Still a great game, and a damn great year for gaming.
