Why doesn`t anyone play this online?
I played free roam as soon as I bought the game, then I shelfed it for a few weeks. I'm playing through the story now, and I plan in going back to the multiplayer once I finish.
I haven't played in a long time so I don't know if people still play on XBL but the online was fun, even if it was a bit disappointing. Plus, I still need to beat the story mode.
I kept running into hackers that made themselves invisible while doing a free for all match. The spawns and the amount of camping are even worse than MW2. Free roam is generally empty unless you have a group of friends bullying on the loners. That's why I stopped playing.
Edit: They need to take out auto aim, it really is a game breaker when it comes to multiplayer. The only defense against it is to hide (which is why there's so many campers.
I play online all the time. I don't see a lot of gang matches or free-for-all (Actually I see like none) but, I always see people on free roam.
" ...because the online kind of sucks. "Exactly.
The single player was great. One of the best games of the year, easily.
But multiplayer was not particularly fun. Free roam had the potiential to be good, but the community use it just as a death match, making it near impossible to play the way it was intended.
Hopefully we see more single player content added.
I felt the same way about Red Dead's multiplayer as I did about GTA's. It was fun at first to goof around and play a little deathmatch here and there but as a whole, it was kinda bad. The gunplay was fun against A.I. opponents but not as satisfying when going up against actual humans. I'm beginning to give up on free roam multiplayer as an option.
The online isn't that great unless you work to make it fun.
Example: A couple of guys decided to chase us around and start killing us for no reason. So, we went to the Presidio and proceeded to have a 10-12 person battle for the fort. It was probably the best fun I've had in RDR's multiplayer, but sometimes you need to get creative.
Just like GTA IV, the gunplay and mechanics of Rockstar games just don't translate to multiplayer. It's just not on par with the better competitive TPSs such as Gears, GRAW, SOCOM, etc.
Because the online is absolutely broken garbage. Would be decent if it actually worked most of the time. Granted, I haven't played since close to launch, so they could have patched the issues/fixed servers. But first impressions are make or break for a multiplayer game, especially on consoles.
I just have too many games that I want to play to spend a lot of time messing around with multi-player.
...plus, I have it for 360 so it wouldn't help ya even if I did play it.
The multiplayer is fun if you have a bunch of friends to run around with in a private free roam; in public you just get shot randomly by people with superior weapons and horses because they're higher level. I guess that's why not many people play anymore.
The Co-Op for Red Dead Redemption is in my opinion outstanding. It's really fun to group up with friends and take down fortress'. But the Competitive side of things is still fun, but not really mind blowing in anyway, it's just kind of standard.
" I use the PSN on RDR and I feel like this game has surpriseingly held up its online players. It does help that two of my friends also play the game but regardless the numbers seem to have held up. If you wanna play a game my PSN is John7doe_ "i agree. the amount of people playing still is great.
but seriously, like i said before, when you've got Uncharted 2, Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare 2, Killzone 2 etc on ps3 why play RDR? its awesome but not addictive.
RDR online for me was something to spend about 5 minutes, get killed about 20 times in that time by the same group of people. Then be done with it.
Whenever I play online and it's not just with a group of friends, nobody ever tries to group together and complete the challenges like clearing out the outlaw hideouts and such, they just ride around shooting everyone in the face over and over, like they find it more fun to tediously grind minor experience from that than to get into ridiculous situations* with their friends.
*I am reminded of a session where instead of shooting at anything, me and my buds found a canyon and competed to see who could get their body to go the furthest by leaping off the cliff atop their horse.
