Resident Evil 5 follows series alum Chris Redfield as he journeys into West Africa with his new partner, Sheva Alomar, fighting Las Plagas-infested enemies called the Majini.
Resident Evil to get rebooted with RE6.
Kinda ironic since most people already said RE4 rebooted the RE franchise, and with only two RE games like RE4 it'll once again change.
Maybe we will be lucky and they will actually go back to the RE2 formula which for me was the height of Resident evil in terms of gameplay and storytelling, Since I can't count on any more S.D perry books to be released since capcom butchered the story so much S.D perry couldn't continue with her own story bent....*shakes head* heres to hoping *raises glass*
ah this is semi depressing, the way RE4 played, in my opinion was amazing. It is quite easily one of my favorite games that I have ever played. Hopefully the reboots will breath just as much life into the series as the RE4 "reboot" has done. Either way I am looking forward to find out more about these gameplay mechanic changes.

"When RE6 comes out, maybe it will be on the WiiHD or something... Now that would be a reboot."You know what would be cool? A RE game with set camera angles like the old ones, but instead of just shooting in a general direction to automatically hit you'd use the Wii remote to aim.

I hope RE5 is the last in the series regarding the storyline they set up now. It sure finally looks that way, taking almost six games to bring down Wesker, the trailers hint at something crazy climactic.
I think Capcom needs to take a step back and take a good look at Dead Space and even Left 4 Dead, think where they want to go and start from there in terms of getting inspiration. I don't want the next RE to be copies of either series, it defiantly needs to have it's own identity. And I hope to god they don't interpret the idea they need to make their game into a FPS in order to appeal to the masses.

"HandsomeDead said:I doubt it. In the old Resident Evil games, say you had 20 bullets and there was a zombie lumbering towards you, you had to consider if you were just going to shoot it or if you should wait for it to get in the range of a headshot. Part of the tension was because you never had a crosshair or any definite way of knowing if your headshot would pay off or the shot would just completely miss. If you're waggling with the Wiimote, you can just point to the head and fire until it's gone."Icemael said:With limited ammo and restricted movement, I'd say the tension would still be there.""HandsomeDead said:That sounds even worse. wtf
The problem with RE is that is trying to be more of some short of 3rd person shooter like Gears of War. I remember the old RE games being adventure games with the exploration, puzzle solving, and a much better and scary stories. Now the progression of RE4 was much to linear and I always get the feeling when it comes to judging some of the cut-scene of RE5, it's trying to be like the live action RE movies. You know those matrix style cut-scene.
I get the feeling that when they say "reboot" they're referring to both the gameplay and the plot.
There are a lot of different ways they could go with the gameplay. They could continue to the current trend of 4 and 5 and emphasize action and shooting with a perfected control scheme. Starting from the ground up with a new control scheme could really do wonders. However, they could also go in the other direction and aim to recapture more of the slow moving horror elements from the earlier games in the series. I'm not really sure which I would prefer, but I certainly eagerly await whatever they come up with.
As far as plot, I haven't personally finished RE5 yet, but I've heard that it pretty much closes up all of the loose ends related to the entire story of Umbrella. That seems like it would leave the series pretty open to explore a completely new plot line with a new cast of characters.
But if they're going to reboot the story or whatever, shouldn't they change what the name is? A Resident Evil 6 that doesn't follow the same story arc as the previous ones would be weird.
"But if they're going to reboot the story or whatever, shouldn't they change what the name is? A Resident Evil 6 that doesn't follow the same story arc as the previous ones would be weird."Do you really want a Resident Evil game with a subtitle? Those don't have the best track record...lol.

But on topic, i agree with Will, the "Retro" Resident evils were the best, they at least have an element of fear in them, and zombies..
