Link. So it seems RE5 will be the last of it's kind... kinda bittersweet.

Kinda ironic since most people already said RE4 rebooted the RE franchise, and with only two RE games like RE4 it'll once again change.

Maybe they'll continue the RE4mat (cwutididthar?) on Wii, since it works so goddamn well.

Well that seemed in depth and reliable. In all seriousness though I think 5 needs one, just nothing major. Just a touch up to keep up with the improvements other titles have made since RE4 introduced that game play scheme.

Maybe we will be lucky and they will actually go back to the RE2 formula which for me was the height of Resident evil in terms of gameplay and storytelling, Since I can't count on any more S.D perry books to be released since capcom butchered the story so much S.D perry couldn't continue with her own story bent....*shakes head* heres to hoping *raises glass*

ah this is semi depressing, the way RE4 played, in my opinion was amazing.  It is quite easily one of my favorite games that I have ever played.  Hopefully the reboots will breath just as much life into the series as the RE4 "reboot" has done.  Either way I am looking forward to find out more about these gameplay mechanic changes.

You know what would be cool? A RE game with set camera angles like the old ones, but instead of just shooting in a general direction to automatically hit you'd use the Wii remote to aim.

I hope RE5 is the last in the series regarding the storyline they set up now. It sure finally looks that way, taking almost six games to bring down Wesker, the trailers hint at something crazy climactic.

I think Capcom needs to take a step back and take a good look at Dead Space and even Left 4 Dead, think where they want to go and start from there in terms of getting inspiration. I don't want the next RE to be copies of either series, it defiantly needs to have it's own identity. And I hope to god they don't interpret the idea they need to make their game into a FPS in order to appeal to the masses.

No, it'd be third person all the time. So it plays pretty much like the old RE games, but when you want to shoot something you point at it instead of just facing in the the general direction of it.

That sounds even worse. Lightgun style combat really doesn't seem suited to that kind of game as it's just remove any kind of tension that the camera angles and presumably slower gameplay would build.

Actually could be a pretty cool idea, but it would resemble an arcade shooter more than a horror game. Think Alien Syndrome.

I doubt it. In the old Resident Evil games, say you had 20 bullets and there was a zombie lumbering towards you, you had to consider if you were just going to shoot it or if you should wait for it to get in the range of a headshot. Part of the tension was because you never had a crosshair or any definite way of knowing if your headshot would pay off or the shot would just completely miss. If you're waggling with the Wiimote, you can just point to the head and fire until it's gone.

What I mean is enemies are tougher, but you still have 20 bullets. Then add a chance for critical hits, and give each zombie a different amount of health. Should you risk wasting ammo to potentially get a reward for killing the enemy, or should you run for it and hope you don't get hurt in the process?
The concept of an old-school RE game with Wii controls would be hard to execute, but if done right I think it could be really good.

Well, as long as it's nothing like any Resident Evil game ever made (besides the zombies and the inclusion of the same characters), then I'm in.

I actually assumed this installment would answer all the questions.

Snake eating its own tail. Gears 2 had sections ripped off of the RE series.

gears of war by cliffy b's admission was mostly inspired by resident evil 4. yet somehow now everyone like to think that re5 is a gears style game.

The problem with RE is that is trying to be more of some short of 3rd person shooter like Gears of War. I remember the old RE games being adventure games with the exploration, puzzle solving, and a much better and scary stories. Now the progression of RE4 was much to linear and I always get the feeling when it comes to judging some of the cut-scene of RE5, it's trying to be like the live action RE movies. You know those matrix style cut-scene.

I hope they make re 6 into a hybrid between what re 4 was and what re 1 remake was.  Action with horror is such an awesome combination ^.^

I get the feeling that when they say "reboot" they're referring to both the gameplay and the plot.

There are a lot of different ways they could go with the gameplay. They could continue to the current trend of 4 and 5 and emphasize action and shooting with a perfected control scheme. Starting from the ground up with a new control scheme could really do wonders. However, they could also go in the other direction and aim to recapture more of the slow moving horror elements from the earlier games in the series. I'm not really sure which I would prefer, but I certainly eagerly await whatever they come up with.

As far as plot, I haven't personally finished RE5 yet, but I've heard that it pretty much closes up all of the loose ends related to the entire story of Umbrella. That seems like it would leave the series pretty open to explore a completely new plot line with a new cast of characters.

But if they're going to reboot the story or whatever, shouldn't they change what the name is? A Resident Evil 6 that doesn't follow the same story arc as the previous ones would be weird.

Do you really want a Resident Evil game with a subtitle? Those don't have the best track record...lol.

Gears of War . . . in color?
    "
Gears of War 2 already did that.
    "
I said in color, not in green.
    "
So you basically mean a childishly garish palette?"
Ark is right, Gears of war 1 and 2 arent very nice, no colors, everything is either Brown, grey or dark shitty colored green.

But on topic, i agree with Will, the "Retro" Resident evils were the best, they at least have an element of fear in them, and zombies..

Rebooting as in gameplay or story?  Because despite how RE5 ended (without tossing out any spoilers), there is a LOT of shit that's still up in the air.
