Bourne to be Average
When the Bourne Conspiracy was in production i was torn the previews and screenshots looked great but at the end of the day does it count as a doomed to fail film tie in. The game was released and had reasonable reviews and as a fan of the grittier spy film i thought it deserved a try. I entered the game on the hardest difficulty setting assasin for the achievements and found it suprisingly forgiving so this is deffinately a tough game. The game enters you with the first 3 missions leading up the the illustrious Wambosi assasination that leads into the sequences portrayed by the films and then moves on to following the bourne identity while mixing in with flashbacks of Bourne's previous missions. This doesnt work for me at all as a film with such a integral plot is lost in this mix up of time periods and you never really get a feel of the story.
The game play consists of a mixture of 3rd person shooting and fisticuffs as well as far too much god of war style action scenes. The shooting works rather well although it seems stupid to be shooting a man half a dosen times with a pistol be for he drops down in a very scripted manner. The cover system is good however you find yourself diving for cover to regain health and yet the AI still manage to hit you.
Hand to hand combat starts of extremely fun and smashing guys heads into photocopiers and stabbing them with a biro is very satisfying. The thing is eventually it becomes a routine and the best way to win most fights is to simply button mash which takes a lot of the enjoyment away.
Takedowns are a good part of the Bourne Conspiracy but simply involve you hitting the write button at the right time however you are rewarded by some interesting cinematics.
Overall The Bourne Conspiracy is a decent attempt at bringing the Bourne Experience to a game but just misses the mark on so many levels giving a fairly average result. Its short campaign will give you a few hours of fun and is a fun way to get a few extra achievements but is deffinately a game for a rental rather than a purchase.
