I always thought the game looked pretty fun, even if it may have been more of a vehicle to show off Cryengine tech than anything else. Crytek is self-publishing this one and it'll be on Steam, no word on price yet but I suspect it'll be either $39 or $49 to start with. Which is probably more than I'm willing to pay for Ryse, but Crytek games seem to go on sale somewhat regularly anyway.

Since it's coming out in the fall, this makes me wonder if there was a timed one year period of Xbox One exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Either way, can't wait to see what this game looks like at 1080p/60fps+ instead of 900p/30fps like it is on the Xbox One. That's 300% more pixels being pushed every second compared to the console version at only 1080p, so even if they don't update any assets for the higher resolutions and more advanced effects available on PC it should still look quite a bit better. This game looked good at only 900p/30 so it'll be interesting to see what Crytek can squeeze out of PC's.

“We are bringing the Ryse experience to PC, with 4K resolution support,” says Carl Jones, Director of Business Development at Crytek. “4K gaming is another leap in graphics quality for PC gamers and Ryse is the perfect showcase for what’s now possible in high-end PC games. We’ve given our team the opportunity to show what CRYENGINE can really achieve, without compromising quality, thanks to the incredible hardware available now to PC gamers. Ryse will be a benchmark PC graphics showcase this year and probably for a long time in future. Our community asked for a Ryse PC version, and we have the means and technology to deliver this title with the highest quality possible.

The PC version of Ryse will come with bonus material originally released as downloadable content, including: The Colosseum Pack containing two character skins and two Arena maps; the Mars’ Chosen Pack containing one new character skin, four Arena maps, and the new Survival mode; the Duel of Fates Pack containing two character skins, two Arena maps, and one additional Survival map; and the Morituri Pack, with three new Arena maps, two Survival maps, and five solo Arena maps. Finally, PC players will also have instant access to the Ruins multiplayer map and the “Legionnaire’s Trust” sword initially released as part of a special edition of the game.

It's pretty interesting that Crytek is self-publishing with help from Deep Silver. Considering some of the talk going around was that the Ryse sequel that was in development fell through because of "IP ownership issues," it makes you wonder what happened between them and Microsoft. Maybe Microsoft' supporting Ryse 2 was contingent on them getting ownership of the franchise or it never coming to PC and Crytek balked.

Still though: Nah it's okay guys, I'm good, you really don't have to do this.

Ryse is enjoyable enough if you go in with measured expectations.

Why would you ever actually want to play this? It's terribly boring and mediocre.

i actually thought this game looked damned purty. gameplay appeared a little mediocre but it seemed like serviceable dumbed down Batman combat. could understand it getting boring after awhile. still not sure why this game got all the hate it did.

Awesome. Always wanted to play this but couldn't justify the RRP for what it was.

Since I no longer own an XBOX ONE and PC/Steam Sale pricing I will definitely give this a go.

Based on the Quick Look I thought Ryse looked like it would be a fun way to spend an afternoon, and a Steam sale could bring the price down to something more acceptable for what you're getting. Sounds good to me!

Sure, this is exactly the kind of game Steam sales are great for. When I can actually run it, I'll happily buy it. I've enjoyed some pretty questionable games due to the lack of buyer's remorse hanging over my head.

"We have a good relationship with Microsoft. We are constantly looking at what we can do together," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said. "We are not 100 percent happy with Xbox One sales right now. So we want to wait 'till the current-gen and next-gen catches up. For Ryse 2, we aren't saying it's canceled. It's our IP. It just has to wait for the right timing. And the right timing means higher installed base across next-gen."

    Okay I guess...?

    To me that sounds like:

"We had a timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft, but there weren't enough Xbox Ones sold so we ended up not selling a lot of copies of Ryse over the course of the last year. We may make Ryse 2 later on, but probably not."

What is happening in that fist GIF? At first I thought he smashed his shield across that guys face but his shield is fine afterwards.

Ohh the background just happened to blow up at the same time as the shield bash.

Yeah that's a good looking game but from what I've read its not very fun.

I do! I don't think Ryse was outstanding by any means, but it was a solid foundation to built upon. I think if they fleshed out the combat system a bit, added better progression and had a wider variety of encounters they'd have the makings of a great sequel. Plus, the Greco-Roman era is woefully underexplored in games, so anything that even touches on that stuff is automatically more interesting to me than another brown shooter.

Game always looked interesting and pretty but it no way was it justification for $60 plus a console. I'll pick it up on Steam for $10-15 and I'm sure I'll enjoy it (I don't go into games with ridiculous expectations).

I'll definitely pick it up on a Steam sale or something. Seemed pretty alright.
