Though many arcade machines used dedicated hardware, some manufacturers attempted to use a common platform between different games, offering arcade operators cheaper ways to change from one game to another without buying an entirely new cabinet.
Hikaru is an arcade platform developed by Sega in 1999. Few games were developed for the platform, which was replaced by the cheaper NAOMI 2 spec.
NAOMI 2 is the arcade hardware that replaced the expensive-but-powerful Sega Hikaru platform. It was primarily utilized between 2001 and 2004, but the final NAOMI 2 release was issued in 2007.
