Even Chie would be able to piece this mystery together...
Even Chie would be able to piece this mystery together...
I'll tell you straight out that I feel bad for Brad and Ryan, I really do. Between me running around the office screaming "BLACK FROST HO!" and Jeff going insane running his own private Persona 4 investigation, Atlus has penetrated our offices pretty deeply. With our 45-minute Quick Look of the upcoming Persona PSP release behind us, I think the rest of the boys were hoping to get a little Bufu respite, but alas, Atlus has to go and keep fanning those flames with some pretty strong evidence of a Persona 3 PSP release surfacing out of Japan.

This week's Famitsu is reporting that Persona 3 Portable will hit Japanese store shelves and Japan's PSN on November 1st, the same day as Japan's launch of the PSPgo. While I don't see any mention of when this will be available outside of Japan, there's really no reason to think Atlus wouldn't bring this over at some point. Personally, Persona 3 is where I got my first taste of the series, so it holds a special place in my heart and even though Jeff and I have spent over 80 hours during our Persona 4 Endurance Run, I'm still ready to head back and finish what I started in P3.

    It's an Evoker, ok?
    It's an Evoker, ok?
It also seems like Atlus is adding some extra content on top of 2008's Persona 3 FES edition. Apparently, you'll be able to choose a lady instead of a male as your main character, which will obviously offer different interactions with the rest of the cast. Some other changes sound like they are being made to make the game mechanics a bit more comparable to Persona 4. There are also reports of visual changes to the Personas no matter what gender your main character is, but if that means I won't be popping myself in the head with an " Evoker" to summon a Jack Frost, then count me out!

So, while we wait for the official word from Atlus, and we all hold our breath for Persona 5, are there any old or new fans ready for some evoking on the go?

Thanks to user PandaShake and rest of the GB community for sending this in. Also, check out this IGN article for a few more details.

    I'm Jack Frost, ho!

Playing Persona 3 FES right now, and I don't see the difference a new main character makes: you never hear any dialog from them, and they have no inherent personality. I guess it's just an avatar thing for females.

I've just today finished P3 FES. If only I knew that this psp version would be coming out sooner, I could have waited! As it stands, I can't really be bothered to play through the game again, as great as it is. Anyone who hasn't played 3 should check it out though. It's as good as 4; honestly. The characters are great.

This seems absolultely awesome! Once you said they're adding onto FES I was happy because honestly, in my mind, the regular P3 ending is the equivalent of the very bad ending in P4.

I'm totally psyched for this, even after having played through PS3 + FES 3 times now. Having a female lead was something I was hoping to see in P4 (which didn't happen, obviously, but maybe we'll see it in P5 or perhaps the option to choose) so this is awesome! I wonder if we'll see the same treatment for P4 in the future.. One can hope!

Oh and the fact you'll be able to control your other teammates in combat fixes the only glaring problem P3 had, horray!

I have never played any persona game and I have always heard P3 was great. So this is a day-1 buy for me... I have been looking for a reason to pull my PSP out from under my dining table leg... Wobbly breakfast be damned!

Speaking of which, wonder if your dates will get angry if they see you going out with someone else like in the original. Probably will have that friends/girlfriend mechanic in P4 I guess.

I love all of the Persona games. It bums me out a little that Atlus won't (or, at least haven't announced) remake Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. I have the latter, so I won't get too depressed.

BTW: I just finished Persona 4 on Sunday. You guys are going to love it.

well, well...playing as a girl will be quite a major change to the story, indeed. For starters, how will they handle the romantic s. links? Also, the relationship between Aigis and the MC might change quite a bit...especially the ending. I don't see how they could keep the same level of emotion for the ending if they mess with that relationship too much. Interesting.

@CH3BURASHKA: Many of the events and interactions that occur in Persona 3 designed around the fact that the main character is a male.  If the main character were female, events like the beach scene during summer break and the bathhouse would have to be completely redone because it's unlikely that the character would be with the boys in those cases.  Also, the romantic social links are all geared toward male/female relationships, so unless Atlus wants all of those links to suddenly become lesbian-oriented, chances are that the social links will be redone to offer male romantic options.  (Social Links with Junpei or Akihiko, anyone?)

So while the basic story and premise will remain the same on the surface, the character interaction will be vastly different.  I'm looking forward to playing it to see what all of the differences are.

According to RPGFan it won't, but I'm a bit skeptical about that, since the events of The Answer are considered canon, it seems odd that they wouldn't include it. But who knows.

@Eirikr:  I enjoyed The Answer. It wasn't as good as the main game, since it was just dungeon crawling, but at the same time it was a nice change of pace from the main game. The bosses were also quite challenging and fun. The story bits were hit or miss, but I have to say I like the ending to The Answer better than the normal ending.

Atlus is conspiriing to make me buy a PSP, aren't they? Not that I really need to buy P3 again, although if the PSP version includes interface enhancements such as the "press a button for a menu that lets you teleport everywhere instead of spending 5 minutes walking from one end of the school to the other every afternoon" and "equip everyone from the triangle menu instead of having to talk to them individually" features...
