I had heard of it, and vaguely remember glancing at reviews for it upon release, but never would have been even remotely interested in it were it not for GiantBomb opening my eyes.
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Game » consists of 5 releases. Released Jul 10, 2008
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Like its predecessor, its gameplay combines a traditional role-playing game with elements of a social simulation. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.
Who knew of this game before GB?
" @SethPhotopoulos said:This.Same here. The ER was posted on another forum I frequent. I have P4 to thank for introducing me to GB. :D "" @Turambar said:
" I learned of GB through P4 actually. "I did too.
I was into the Digital Devil Saga series, but never really considered playing Persona until I watched some of the Endurance run. I'm currently working my way through Persona 3 (work and school is ruining that commitment) but I really like it. Don't know why I never played it; it's my type of game.
" I've heard of the series but I didn't know much of anything about it.God, I love GiantBomb.com
It's pretty ironic looking back at this video.

about anything related--a link to an episode of the ER popped up eventually.
I learned about Persona 3 in a Swedish video game magazine (which made me buy P3 FES) and thus was already stoked about Persona 4 before GB did the endurance run. Too bad GB didn't help sales much, at least not here. Most online stores sell it for €20 new, but it still doesn't sell. No one cares about PS2 games it seems. There are still copies of P3 and P3 FES in stores here in Sweden.
It's good for me though that PS2 games can be found so cheap. I picked up Valkyrie Profile 2 for €10 in a bargain bin while in the US it's rare and costs several times that amount even if it's used.
I had sunk about 30 hours into it right after it came out and then moved on to other things before the ER. Watching that reminded me I liked the game and I finally played through and finished it about a month ago.
I'd never heard of Shin Megami Tensei OR Persona before I came to GB. I have them to thank for that!
I knew of Persona 3 as the game where teenagers shoot their brains out, but I hadn't heard of P4. Then, I saw the Endurance Run, and now I'm playing through Persona 3 FES as well.
"I learned of Persona 3 prior to release, and played it when it came out. Then I played Persona 4 when it came out. I was still playing it when Vinny and Jeff started. I also created an Endurance Run thread on GameFAQs' Persona 4 forum, helping bring in new members who knew of the game even before they knew of the site. "
Yeah, i think that's totally what got me here.
Took a chance and bought Persona 3, and absolutely loved it. I was incredibly excited when I heard P4 was coming out, so, yes I had heard about P4 before Giant Bomb's ER.
I knew about it, but hadn't had any experience with the series until after I saw the Endurance Run. I had heard about Persona 3 and it had been one of those games that I had meant to get but never got around to it because I already have too many unbeaten RPGs. Then FES and 4 came out and I still didn't get them, but I did end up getting Strange Journey when that came out. I still need to go back and get P3FES.
I've also just recently been able to actually watch the Endurance Run (I didn't have internet except at school) so I've been watching it pretty much nonstop over the last couple weeks. I'm on 154, only 2 left!
I hadn't heard of any Shin Megami Tensei or Persona game before the Endurance run. Now, I've watched the Endurance Run, beaten Persona 4 like 7 times and have SMT: Nocturne. I really should start playing Nocturne again, I put it down after I beat Thor in Ikebukuro and haven't played it again since.
I heard of the site because of my interest in P4, other way around. Persona 3 was already one of my favourite JRPGs at that point.

"Yup, you're totally the reason I learned about giantbomb. I've gotta say, thanks, dude.
Actually played Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga back in 2005 because I liked the look of the art style but couldn't get into it. Was always interested in Persona 4 due to the critical success but it took GB to push me into finally playing it (found it hard to go back to last gen systems so was wary of doing so but have not regretted the decision - game holds up well).
Incidentally, despite being a long time member and regular podcast listener since early 2008, I have never seen the P4 Endurance run. Make of that what you will. Just seemed like too much of a time investment and not as portable as the podcast (at least not until I recently got my ipod touch) and I wanted to experience the game first hand without spoilers.
no, GB is pretty much the only place I learn about games ever so...
If it aint on Giant Bomb, it doesent exist.
I did from when I used to listen to 1up's podcasts more frequently. There was an episode of Retronauts dedicated to the Persona series.
I actually played through both Persona 4 and Deadly Premonition immediately before the Endurance Runs started. It's kind of creepy, really. Finished P4 then a week or so later the ER starts, and the exact same with DP. And, coincidentally enough, they're two of my favorite games from recent years.
Don't want to start a new thread so I suppose I'll ask here. I haven't watched the P4 ER in its entirety yet. Do the guys get the final, "true" ending or one of the two previous ones?
HUGE ENDGAME SPOILERS

"Ya know, since it goes from Yamano's husband, to Adachi, to finally the gas station attendant/superbeing.
I started SMT games with SMT: Nocturne. I bought P4 day one and beat it that christmas season. I actually couldn't watch that Endurance Run because the 100 hour journey was still too fresh. It being a year later, I've started watching the P4 ER.
Ahh, awesome, thanks. Currently on episode 54 and was just thinking it'd be a real bummer for the guys if they invested triple-digit hours into the game only to get one of the lesser endings." @Duke_of_IRL said:

EDIT: Really wish they'd do a Persona 3 ER at some point, though I doubt it'll happen. I believe Vinny said he's beaten P3, or at least played some of it. A friend of mine played it to completion and didn't stop talking about how brilliant it was for a week. I played it for about ten hours but then life just got too hectic to be able to invest that kinda time into a game. I've been curious about why it's so much better than four (according to the friend). Guess I won't know.
EDIT 2: Both Yosuke from P4 and the boxer kid from P3 are voice actors in Fallout: New Vegas. Shocked the hell outta me when I found out.
I knew about P4 long before it came out thanks to randomly buying P3FES and loving it. Like a lot of other people i learned about Giant Bomb thanks to P4.
