I've always been confused about this game. Why is it on the Playstation 2 and not the Playstation 3?

Why is this game on PS2?
" @Megalon said:If you're going by that logic, then why isn't it on the Wii? Unless it's made by SONY. Which again would seem weird because you would think SONY would make a game for their PS3." Probably because a LOT more people have PS2s. "yup. "
" @ProfessorEss said:Because they didn't want to add unnecessary motion control to it? And before you say "well, doesn't need to have motion control to be on the Wii", if it's on the Wii chances are people will expect motion control, regardless." @Megalon said:If you're going by that logic, then why isn't it on the Wii? Hell, it could be that they started the project prior to the Wii's release and never even thought of changing all the assets to work on Nintendo's console.
Plus, even the Wii is more expensive to produce [a quality product] for than the PS2. Persona 4 runs on the same engine and mechanics as Persona 3 so there's no need to port anything.
Easy development combined with an established and predictable userbase that's known to buy third party games." @ProfessorEss said:

" @Mr_Bubbles said:Great point. The Wii's best sellers tend to be first party, where as Sony's console is almost exclusively third party.Easy development combined with an established and predictable userbase that's known to buy third party games. "" @ProfessorEss said:

" I figure that the PS2 has a huge share of RPG lovers must have had something to do with this. Everyone who knew about the Shin Megani games before P4 I'm sure has a PS2. "Spot on assessment in my opinion, PS2 dominated the RPG market of the consoles at the time.
" @ProfessorEss said:Eh? The prequel was on PS2, so the engine and reusable art assets are already ready already and the audience is largely Japanese. Put 2 and 2 together and you get Wii?" @Megalon said:If you're going by that logic, then why isn't it on the Wii? Unless it's made by SONY. " A lot of assets already existed from other SMT games, they could use the same engine, etc. Doing a lot with a low budget is Atlus's successful business model. "This. Persona 4 was built on an improved Persona 3 engine, so it was cost-effective to put the game out on a console with a proven userbase.
