Ranking of Fighters 0047: Battle Arena Toshinden 2 & Street Fighter II

Typical Giant Bomb, going with these obscure fighting games nobody's heard of instead of the true classics. Who's even heard of this "Street Fighter II"? Bring back Power Moves for the SNES!

Glad moving Battle Arena Toshinden 2 up to 68 before evaluating Street Fighter II worked out. I mean, 68 is well above the bottom of the list, so there was a decent chance the science would determine that Street Fighter II is worse than Battle Arena Toshinden 2.

Chun-li is fucking broken in this game. Jumping roundhouse->fierce does like 33%

This was a hell of an episode for someone with no nostalgia/reverence for SF in general and especially SFII. It seems... Worse than they're saying for sure.

I imported Toshinden 2 when it came out in Japan and at the time it was the best looking video game I had ever seen. Good times!

That is some good Science on Street Fighter 2 a pivotal game that time will always remember. Battle Arena Toshiden 2 not so much.

I look forward to the scientists evaluation of Golden Axe: The Duel whenever that day comes.

I played a hell of a lot of this game back in the day, and of course I always put in the two codes for the four hidden characters (though Duke and Fo Fai remained my favorites). All four were pretty broken, Master perhaps most of all, but Vermilion certainly stood out the most with his guns, for sure.

The first Toshinden was very memorable for me because it was one of three games my cousin owned when he showed me his Playstation for the first time, the others being Tekken and Twisted Metal. Twisted Metal awed me the most, but all three of them blew my mind. At the time I owned an NES and a Sega Genesis and had never seen anything like this before.

I remember renting Toshinden 3 at some point and thinking it felt significantly worse than Toshiden 2 had. I'm not sure if that was actually the case or BAT2 was just better *for the time*. But it's definitely a game I have a lot of nostalgia for. Objectively it may not have been a great game, but it was plenty good enough to keep me amused at the time.

Edit 1: Also the Capcom arcade stick for SNES ruled. What a cute design.

Edit 2: I can't believe I've never heard of the handcuff glitch before now. Holy fuck that's amazing. I hope one day to hear more stories of what went down when people used that in arcades.

I'm glad the science is back, but also sad that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was snubbed by the sequel to a niche fighter nobody has ever heard of!

@avioto: On a ranking of greatest video games ever SFII isn't even fair to compare other fighting games to. In terms of "Let's play a fighting game right now" it holds up, but you can't compare it to CvS2, Ultra, T7 and stuff like that.

Also, I know it ain't the case; but that thumb-nail really looks like Tokido AKA The Murderface AKA Our Lord and Saviour.

I gotta' go with Dudley or Sean. Rog is definitely up there, but those dash punches of his would only make sense if he was wearing roller-blades, or fighting in an ice-rink. I'd honestly be into either.
