Finally more Demon's Soul's talk. I play the game causally. I also cant resist the urge to kill other players and gain my soul back.

Thankfully the DS discussion was more sensible this week. I agree with Vinny that it is seriously fucked up, and looking at guides makes me feel like my brain is pouring out of my ears. That's why I've just been going for it, not worrying about shooting a million arrows at some high-level enemy so I can get an item before I'm supposed to, or any shit like that. And so far I really enjoy it.

Demon's Souls discussion was very reasonable this week. I give mad props to Vinny for being very very very open minded and persistent. My short little tip to him would be that melee is not the way to go. Wear light armor and use alot of magic. Dodging is more important than a defense rating.

I think I've played through Demon's Souls 30 different times now with few different characters. 
 
I had withdrawals for like, a month after I stopped playing. Earning that Platinum was totally worth it though. 
 
and the PvP scene was kinda fun, but the servers are fucking atrocious, I shouldn't be getting backstabbed from 20 feet behind me, which is/was very common.

The whole crew could not have sounded anymore uninterested in being there. bummer. 

anybody know where I can find that TellTale Hype Video Brad was talking about? I scanned through the TellTale Press Release and couldn't find it... that is, unless they made that video years ago.

Crystal Geckos are little pricks though. They are easy to kill, if you can hit them before they see you.
 
And Vinny, you are playing it like a faq tells you to. Yes, read up to understand, but you don't need to do a perfect run, or farm like it's an mmo. Play it like you want. If you want to use magic, use magic. If you want to use bows, or polearms or whatever, use those. The game is totally beatable with any of those playstyles. Sure, some things will be harder, but some parts will be easier than for some other build.

Seriously Vinny; the only thing to remember for demons souls; is to have a balance of melee and magic, spend no points in endurance and always suicide in the nexus to avoid altering world tendancy down and wear the ring from the castle to get 2/3rds health in soul form. 

I'd like to bitch a little about some of the stuff Vinny said in the Demon's Souls talk, but he's the only one who was actually willing to give that game a chance, so kudos to him.

Blue Blood Sword? Noo, Vinny getting that sword is complicated and once you have it the play style needed to use it effectively is pretty advanced and complicated too. You should just play the game you want to play it, even if your character doesn't turn out "perfect." That's part of the fun, experiencing the game on your own and overcoming it. The only advice you really need is don't distribute your points evenly. Specialize! I'm glad you're getting back into Demon's Souls, and hope you cross the hump from torture to delight soon.

Haven't listened to the bombcast yet, but comments like this are far more irritating than someone trying to defend Demon's Souls. (And, full disclosure, I adore Demon's Souls even though it hates me.) "

I disagree with your opinion of Demon's Souls. I respect all your opinions but this particular one I DO NOT understand. So far it seems to me that you haven't played enough of this game to say that its gameplay is flawed.

Wait, did he say Drew's been playing Stronghold? Is he talking about the old Stronghold games from like ten years ago? Or Stronghold 3, which is supposed to be out some time this year? Or the mmo based on the series that is in beta?
 
I've never played the games, but they look cool. They're big in Germany. Just like David Hasselhoff.

What is there to "get" with demons souls? It's like you people are completely out of touch and only like the normal mainstream games.

I have burnt the last whole week playing Demon's Souls and going through the learning process.........soooo awesome
 
crystal lizards drop a random piece(s) of stone.  Also, having to go to great lengths to rescue certain NPCs is crazy difficult.  You also get crazy spells with a couple people you rescue.  And the unique souls of the demons you kill can be sold to certain people for unique spells, so you have to choose one or another.  god damn.
 
 
 
on De Blob...... it was a student project by some dudes at Digipen.  You should play that because its free and on PC.  because that is the first one, not the wii game.

Did Ryan sneak in some disdain for Super Mario 64 near the end there?  That took me by surprise.  Can't say I was ever a fan though since I wasn't an N64 kid.

Lesson learned: never talk/think about Demon's Souls ever again. Thanks for making it easier guys!

I haven't listened to the podcast yet but judging by the fanboy rage in the comments, this is sure to be a fun one!

Hah, I just finished Demon's Souls yesterday. Took me about three weeks or 40 in-game hours. It actually gets really easy in the middle. I'd say hours 6-30 were pretty much a cakewalk. The way I did it was to finish up all the first sections, then do Shrine of Storms and Stonefang Tunnel. At that point you should be strong enough to tackle what I consider the hardest areas, Tower of Latria and Valley of Defilement.
 
Preparing and being cautious the first time through an area makes the game a whole lot easier.
 
Edit: Oh yeah, I also played on Pure White Tendency which makes the enemies SIGNIFICANTLY weaker.
