Also, @vinny, from what I could tell in the BulletStorm Quick Look, the shotgun was shooting one round at a time, so it shouldn't be vastly more powerful.

Well, not just die. Things will be far less easy and you won't be able to cheese the game like everyone else. Thief's Ring and a bow will let you baaaasically exploit your way through the game. I don't recommend it, it's not much fun at all, but... you can do that.
