Folks where being whiny babies in the Playdate chat because East wasn't playing Maker 2 and I told them to chill out, because obviously Maker 2 was gonna be on UPF.

Quake didn't have dynamic lighting it wasn't until Unreal that we had dynamic lights and shadows in games. Even Quake 2 was just baked light maps (albeit colored).

If someone asked me "What is the best video game ever made?" it will always be Quake, followed by Quake 3 as number 2. I was kinda surprised when Brad told Jeff he may want to reconsider playing Quake because you definitely should not reconsider playing Quake at any year.

You can just play Quake out of the box without adding any mods or user engines, but I highly recommend Quake HD (and barring Quake HD just use Dark Places if you want the best looking Quake)

Playing through just the single player of Quake is always fun, and never gets old. I could play Quake every day (and sometimes I do). Sometimes it is just fun to load up old map packs from Quake because it is a damn good game.

Welp I just convinced myself to play Quake instead of Amid Evil now.

I am playing quake 1 for the first time ever as we speak, tripped me out when jeff said he wanted to play it again.

Man they don't make games like hexen anymore. Amid Evil is quakelike, Hexen was actually full of puzzles and trap avoiding. I loved it!

@grondoth: in hexen there is an arrows pointing to an elevator and it's just a insttakill crushed. It's so good. Try strife if you like hexen.

I work in a restaurant and decided to order 2.3 pounds of seaweed salad from our food supplier. Eating almost 2 pounds of seaweed salad in one sitting is a good way to ruin seaweed salad forever, so I can relate to that sweet corn story.

The talk in general is a pretty good overview of the core pieces of the engine. Edit: At 1:11:11 he also spends a some time venting about "bots" (aimbots/cheating), and the potential ramifications for online multiplayer gaming in the future - kind of an interesting time capsule in that respect.
