Way too many of you are under the mistaken impression that Ryan, Vinny, Brad and Jeff are your friends, and it's super creepy how upset some of you get when someone else dare sits in their chairs.

Great website, godawful community. Always negative, always weird, always xenophobic. These guys aren't your buddies, so stop throwing tantrums like they need you to hold a candle for them and go make some real friends.

If you don't consider them to be your buddies then they have failed at what they do. The whole point of a personality driven enthusiast site like this is for the community to feel like they really know the editorial staff, and can relate to their feelings and opinions on things. So it's only natural that people get attached to some members of staff, especially true when it's such a small group of people who are doing all of the coverage and a lot of that content is in the form unscripted off-the-cuff videos or podcasts.

So no matter how 'weird and creepy' it seems to you, this kind of passionate community is what makes a site like this tick. And the members of their staff should expect to have people react negatively to them now and again when they have voluntarily put their lives, personalities and opinions out there for the public to see.

@Anwar: I dont think they were griping about the challenge but rather if you dont notice the flank, on normal its a one hit kill by "shotgun guy" - its a hard stop in the action, gets tedious after the 5th time. It took me a lot of attempts to get through that section on normal, but i actually had more trouble with randomly extremely accurate grenade launcher dudes.

Rewarding as hell once you get through it - just could have been a little better. Maybe have the shotgun guy say out loud "gotcha!" or something before he shoots, give you some way to get out.

I might buy that if people didn't fly into a rage when they added a premium section and asked for a few bucks in exchange for keeping the site healthy. Seems like a one-way friendship to me.

But anyway, there's a difference between appreciating and enjoying these personalities and getting territorial about them. Sorry, but the latter is weird. Good content is what makes this site tick, not the passionate complainers who sully it with their negativity. (Not speaking for EVERYONE in the comments, mind you, but a sizable chunk.) You can't simply use passion as a cover for irrational behavior, because we might as well legalize murder if we do.

I don't remember people raging about the premium thing, I think it was more about the possibility of the podcast being premium only; and the community reaction ended up changing that. These days a big chunk of the users (even a majority I would say) are subscribers.

Also I think you are making a big leap from 'passionate fans who have grown attached/accustomed to the crew's style and humour' to 'lunatic stalkers types who are about to go off the edge at any second'. Fans are passionate, and sometimes irrational, by nature and especially so on the internet. And without these same fans this site wouldn't work. You can't really properly enjoy this site in the detached way that you might do with a news site or traditional editorial site; you have to get to know and care about these guys in order to make sense of and appreciate most of their content.

I'm not a huge fan of Patrick or Alex on the podcast either. They're both pretty abrasive. Will was great last week, but I look forward to Vinny getting back. Hopefully Patrick isn't a permanent addition.

There needs to be a Bombcast hosted by Alex and Patrick with guests Leigh Alexander and the Microsoft guy from the E3 podcast that everyone complained about. The ensuing wave of hate and malice from "fans" would open up a gateway to oblivion where they would then complain that Bethesda games suck but then the pink hate goo from ghostbusters 2 would show up and possess their bodies and try to steal all of jeffs skylanders then the statue of liberty would show up and save everyone and high five drobot. GOD BLESS DAN AYKROYD.

Boy, you look at how civil the other Whiskey sites' message commenters are and you see why people who like video games get the reputation for being juvenile and socially inept.

ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE I LOVED THAT FEATURE.

I watched most of those flicks around the same time. I had a good time. You, my friend, clearly missed the point. Of everything.

Oh no, I didn't miss anything: Some people need to entertain themselves by mocking and insulting others and yet, when someone who does that for a living is himself mocked and insulted, the above people rally to his defense... Double standard or hypocrisy?

Perhaps you "missed the point. Of everything" [sic].

Ugh. I wonder if you realize how much that "[sic]" makes you seem like an asshole. Hey, you called them "Netflix starts." [sic][sic][sic]LOLOLOLOL [sic][sic][sic] Hey everyone, look at this completely irrelevant, imaginary error! Gee aren't I super-smart?? LOLOLOLOL[sic][sic]sic].

Actually, [sic] doesn't indicate a typographical error at all. It means: "reproduced from the original source". It's used to communicate to the reader the the quote is taken unchanged and isn't the author's composition.

Speaking of imaginary errors, do you have any idea how much that makes you look like an asshole? Because its assholes like you who believe that [sic] points out a mistake when it doesn't. You are under this false impression because your ilk can only see the world as a series of opportunities to rag on other people... Kinda [sic?] ]like Alex Navarro...

Indeed, I committed a typo when I wrote "start" instead of "star" and I am sure I will burn in hell for all eternity because of it. By the way, do you know how much those "LOL"s make you look an even bigger asshole? Probably not...

[sic] semper tyrannis!

Nope, just typing something doesn't make it true. Know what indicates that something is being quoted? Quotes. "[Sic]" has a few specific uses, which less than one minute of clicking on any number of google searches confirms you are totally wrong about.

The "LOLOLOLOL"s were used to exaggerate how annoying your lame snobbery comes off. Now that I fully realize you also don't even know what the fuck you're talking about, possibly because you're just an idiot who thinks he's smarter than he actually is, or because you're so obsessed with your irrational, pathetic hatred that you can't think straight. Either way... bai!

G** d*** Alex's voice really grinds on me, not sure what it is but I just can't listen to it for extended periods of time

I think it's that he never sounds happy, he always sounds annoyed and sarcastic and snarky. It's as if he's trying to act like he's being burdened by having to be on whatever show/segment he's on.

You just never hear him upbeat and positive that much. And that can get very grating as you say.

Very well said, and thank you. A site like Giant Bomb could've only gotten off the ground on the reach of their personalities. Nearly all of the regulars on this site don't come here for it's news and editorial content, because really, there are better places. You don't come here just for the event coverage, because other, larger organizations do it much better. People don't come here strictly for the forum community, because there are definitely more dedicated (and better built) forums out there. You don't come here for the objective value of the video game content, because there are better players out there with more content just on YouTube.

People come here for them. Their personalities. They live their very lives in front of us and you come here because you like them, it's the only reason this site is successful. It's what makes Giant Bomb different from all its competitors and easily the best video game website. If they've failed to appear likable and funny, if they've failed to get you to become attached to this site on a more personal level than other video game websites, then they've failed at the central point of this site and the reason for its success. There is nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes, it comes with a very passionate community over changes and controversy, but that's the tradeoff you make to become so successful on the basis of passion and likability; on personality and a more populist approach. Other sites don't do this approach for this reason, but it's great and rewarding if done well, and if you're a huge fan of Giant Bomb but a hater of the more passionate side of the community, you're just missing the point entirely.

(I apologise for the lack of paragraphs and spacing - I've tried editing it several times, but it just doesn't seem to want to work. Anyone know why this is happening?) I don't so much have a problem with Patrick's personality (he seems a decent guy and like Jeff, he seems to have a knack for hilarious spur of the moment humour). But I do think his inclusion is a problem for a few reasons. 5 people on 1 podcast is a bit much, especially when some have larger personalities than the others. Patrick is always ready to contribute and debate, but it does seem to drown out some of the others at times (Vinny and Brad both seem to be ill at ease talking when it seems like someone might talk over them, or if they have to raise their voice to be heard). I stress this is not just Patrick - nor does it always apply. It can simply happen that when 2 or more of the crew are in an exciteable mood, the resulting mayhem can lead to too much grandstanding by a few at the expense of the others, and any serious debate. Its fun for a while, but eventually you realise that discussion of a game has either broken down or been lead off course because of someone's predjudices that directed the flow of the conversation too much. So why single out Patrick? IMO, its because he tends to duplicate Ryan's role (i.e making firm statements about a game that open avenues for debate from the others, being one of the more prominent members to ask follow up questions of the others etc). At best this is unnecessary, because Ryan already does it in his role as the MC. It just feels like there are two MCs at times. Also, I think the original squad work well because they each have a defined role. Ryan opens up the discussions, probes for interesting facets of a game to talk about and is probably the best crew member for telling you how 'Man on the Street; will react to a certain game (as Ryan's tastes and needs from a game seem very mainstream). Jeff offers something that very few sites have access to - a man who isn't afraid to say if he thinks a AAA game sucks. As one of the more jaded crew members, he talks about the things that other sites don't like to bring up when they're hyping games. He's also the best at analysing a game's actual gameplay - i.e under the gloss and hype, is it fun to play, and will it last? Vinny is the guy that a lot of people feel most strongly about, because he doesn't have an aggressive personality, and seems the least interested in mainstream gaming. He seems like the person who is best able to understand the niche gamer, those games which on the face of it aren't fun to play in terms of sheer gameplay, but offer rewards that are harder to identify (primarily RPGs of course). He's the guy who is usually where everyone else isn't in terms of what's hot and what's not, and that is very endearing in an industry driven by sequels, too much hype etc etc. Brad is sometimes criticised for seeming like he doesn't care about the Bombcast, but I think that most times, he just waits until he feels he has something to say and will be able to say it without being talked over. He's good at identifying what a game is trying to do, and to what extent it succeeds, but can also tell you if at the end of the day, the game is any fun to play too. He does seem to have a problem really caring about games that aren't 'The Latest Thing' though. I.e he seems much more engaged with games that seem genuinely new, that lots of people are playing (either overall or in their specific genre), and which look good enough to feel truly 'important'. Its a good mix of personalities and skill sets IMO, and I just don't see that they need a 5th member of the Cast. And that's no disrespect to Alex and Patrick, Will or anyone else. I just think when you have a winning formula, the only way is down if you try to change it. But if one or more of the cast can't make it for some reason, either Patrick or Alex are fine replacements. My only concern is (and Patrick has gotten much better at this recently) that neither of them seem to have played all that many games when they appear. Patrick used to be terrible for it (playing only 'The Darkness' for months it seemed, which is an ancient game anyway). If you going to appear on the Bombcast, it would be helpful to have actually played some games! So yeah, no problems with the guys themselves - just a question of finding the right balance.

@OdoLives: Maybe I never sound happy, but I assure you that's not the case. I mean, I dunno, I spent significant chunks of this podcast talking about how much I liked pretty much every game we talked about (with perhaps the sole exception of Old Republic, of which I am merely indifferent to). I don't really know how to SOUND any different, on account of it's my voice, and that's what it sounds like. I suppose I can't control what people infer from the tone of my speaking, as that will simply be what it is. Just figured I'd make it clear that, no, I am not unhappy about everything.

Great podcast as usual. Always great to have alex on. I think they should try skyping him in from time to time like they do on screened. He's been reviewing alot more games lately and it would be nice to here him talk about a game he reviewed around the time of it's release.

I played Star War the Old Republic, eventually I just started ignoring the Beta invites. I think people should wait for the eventual time that the game becomes free to play. The game would be far better if they did away with that bar of powers and instead had your moves tied to controller inputs, basically maybe it would've been better as a console game. The combat just feels dead, and lifeless. It's never something you look forward to. You end up just wanting to stay in dialogue trees.

lol, my comment looks out of place, maybe I shoulda read the comments first. I don't think anyone should lose their jobs, because even if a personality is the worst, most annoying, completely unfunny and abrasive personality ever... have you seen what passes for a gaming journalist these days? It's a chasm of crap. Be happy there are some guys at Giantbomb that DON'T completely annoy you.

That's our relationship, and that's good enough. I'm not here to connect with them on a more personal level, because it doesn't work that way. They're not my friends, I'm not their friend, and sorry, but I don't identify with people who go Swimfan every time a fifth or sixth person joins the show. That's really creepy and socially backward, and some people on this site very very badly need to make some real friends in their real lives and expend that kind of care and energy on them and not on four guys who don't even know your name. If that means I'm missing the point, so be it.

Haven't finished this episode yet, but I find it interesting they make a point of talking about how much they say "bitch" in Arkham City when they drop it in almost every piece of GB content.

Wow, I came into the comments to see what people thought about Jeff's opinion of TOR. I wasn't expecting 17 pages of complaining about Alex. Does this happen every week in the comments? If so, consider this my last time reading these.

I for one enjoyed hearing you on the podcast this week, Alex. Are you sticking around for any GOTY deliberations?

You guys are overstating the changes to Uncharted 3... The only big difference is the speed at which the diagonal reticule moves.

Also, Patrick, I say this outta love, but you have to stop sucking. If you are even slightly aware of your surroundings, and don't just focus in on the enemies your shooting afar, the game always ALWAYS telegraphs when you're about to get flanked. For one, you can see the enemies working their way towards you, and second, they fire of shots from a distance, which should call your attention towards them.

Make heavy use of blind fire in those situations. Also, grenades to kill the heavy enemies quickly. This is NOT Gears of War, so you need to stop playing it like Gears. Drake has far more mobility options then Marcus. So don't huddle into a corner and expect to just take everyone out. If you're getting flanked, you can jump into the water for example, and so on. Also, try being more methodical. In that boat sequence, I stealthed everyone, which made the game a lot easier on Crushing.

Alex, the comments on this site aren't exactly a fountain of wisdom. Too much of it is practically as intolerable as youtube comments.

If you actually read them, it might be in your interest to turn posting subscriber-only to get the quality up. That'd provide incentive to not post useless drivel or you'd take people's posting rights away.

Alex, gotta say you're awesome, and you don't really need to try and change. However, I understand people complaints about how you always sound unhappy. I think it stems from your sarcasm. You tend to talk about every game in a really sarcastic manner, even when it's a game you like. Which is not a bad thing in and of itself. It's just why everyone has been saying that your hate things recently.

I have never read these podcast comments before... are they always so negative, i thought we all loved the bombcast.

Don't change a thing Bombcast crew! (Unless you want to bring the NDX, and Drink segments back)

Same for me. I came here to read comments on Jeff's SWTOR first impressions and got an eyeful of ugly. I think I'll stick to just listening.

You people are fucking insane. The shipyard was the best combat arena in a stellar game.

For the crafting in Star wars, you can gather like in WoW, you just have to take the professions that work like that. Only some of them make you use your companion.

I like the way you think, but where's Kessler in that podcast? He should talk about Anime.

Anime is for jerks.

And at the end of every cast, Kessler, Alex, Patrick, Sarah Connor, Leigh, and Microsoft Guy would discuss the hottest issues in American politics.

The Internet would explode and Skynet would die, saving the human world.

Yes.

You'll learn to make a point of not reading them.

There's a much more elegant solution to the PS3 data transfer thing than having an external drive and going through that as Jeff did. You just have to hook up two PS3s together.

Vinny is not on the podcast for 2 weeks and this is what happens. The Italian Stallion needs to gallop his way back to the bombcast to ease the people.

Alex has one of those special personalities and voices that makes you just want to punch him really hard in his somehow-strangely-stuck-in-the-90s-forever face.

And one of the important parts of that sort of personality is enjoying this reaction. Mission accomplished.

I have to say my 2 cents here after listening to 20 mins of giant bombcast now talking about SWTOR. Alot of the comments made by the dude that played to level 11, which is not enough to actually talk about the game in the fashion he is imo. Free country etc. but to those listening please don't take these comments as absolute truths...

I can't be bothered to clean up everything that the cast talks about but I will just mention a couple of things.. This game is NOT all fetch 10 cat teeth.. I have no idea how the person talking got this idea. Apart from a class story with light and dark side choices that dramatically change your class story along with all the secondary choices and companion quests which can be unlocked via affection points and level unlock, every planet you come to seems to have a theme and an ongoing conflict which you in some way see to the end, so many quests show different sides, characters and events that show and lead up to the end of the planets theme/conflict.

And Swtor does that quite well through it cinematics and dialogue and quest design.. It is far from just fetch 10 cat teeth..

Second he says something about how you can't gather resources etc etc.. by picking up plants and stuff and have to pay your companion. That is NOT true as well..

It is fine that you don't want to play this game if you're not up for an everquest, WoW, Rift-ish MMO. I can understand that but weigh the option if you wan't to play a pretty nice singleplayer rpg in an mmo environment because SWTOR IS like 7 KOTORS/Dragon Age(without the pause etc) with multiplayer and a smaller squad!

I must admit that I have personally swallowed this game half whole, I am reading the books that are being released in this universe and enjoying them and I am really into this whole TOR star wars universe. I have also been waiting for an MMO that I would like to play since I stopped playing WoW back when TBC came out. That being said I did play Star Wars Galaxies back in the days and I absolutely still think to this date that it was the best shot at a truly exceptional MMO with major flaws and ofc SOE decisions to completely ruin the game instead of improving it.

So my conclusion is that while SWTOR is not EVERYTHING I would hope for in an MMO, I will still be buying this game and having fun with it until someone actually makes A REALLY EXCEPTIONAL MMO. GW2 is not it for me.

Perhaps Bethesdas rumoured MMO or Blizzards next one is going to be it. For now though SWTOR is it for me..

Someone should just start coming in here and complaining about the personalities of the commenters in the comment section who complain about the guests. "Oh god, [x user] is commenting today? God damn does their typing style annoy me! They never sound happy!"

I'm too lazy because I generally can't be assed to read the stuff that people type in here in fits of rage fueled idiocy.
