YES!!! A playthrough isn't complete unless you attack the First Citizen for being a bitch. And then reload of course... but you know you shot her. Good work Ben.

Build is fine. Folks who have played this game a dozen times are forgetting that that it's both not that hard and was designed to be beatable by a large variety of builds because the devs knew most people would just throw points wherever.

Like if you can get through the game having 1 intelligence and getting warped dialogue options which mostly lead to you being manipulated by NPCs, then you can get through the game without small guns (I know, I've done it.)

Personally, I would suggest maybe boosting up Speech a bit. If only because you may not replay the game and Speech opens up dialogue options. But it's ultimately not necessary, because having high sneak and punching dudes and whatever will just open up other avenues because its Fallout.

Edit: Though, people probably are right about the quests. Skipping over Modoc, the farming town, means you missed a bunch relatively easy quests, I think like 9-10 which is a lot of XP, some of which are pretty involved and entertaining. Just be careful skipping early stuff because this is a 90s CRPG and will happily kick you in the teeth if you're too under leveled.

You must listen to them, Ben.

You must always listen to them, Ben.

You Must!

But yes, probably somebody is right, relative speaking. I just would not want the nightmare of Drew (sucessfully) using rubber bullets/smg.

@garr123: While I agree that it is entirely possible to get through the game with some screwball build, and there is no such thing as a dead-set objectively "bad build" I do thing this is a bad build for a first time player like Ben. This isn't a new-fangled millennial-era Ubi-style instant-gratification "play how you want to play" kind of game where respects are unlimited and checkpoints set you back 30 seconds.

This is a "Play how you want to play. But no take backsies." kind of game. If you haven't planned your build in harmony with your character stats and just put skill points willy-nilly wherever, you're going to have a bad time. Which means reloading a save game from however far back you need to put points in a better spot. Which could be several hours depending on how you do it.

Plus, I think Ben's got this conception in his head that small guns means "pistols" when it is actually pistols and SMGs and shotguns, and rifles, and automatic rifles. In other words, pretty much anything that isn't a (a) mini-gun or (b) shoots lasers.

Ultimately, Ben should play how he wants to play it. But as a fan of the series, I'd really like to see him give the game the best possible shot in terms of having fun.

Yah you can get through the game with a variety of different builds but that’s mostly if you know exactly what you’re doing and how to bend the game in your favor. It’s not just the pesky users trying to control Ben and being obsessive about a thing they like - although there are certainly folks like that it’s a big site after all. Even Rorie or Vinny typically say these are the types of games you play for a few hours and then create a new character when you learn how the systems work and which skills to invest to. I’m sure Ben can get through the game especially if he gets all the companions he can, but there might be a lot of reloading of saves later on, at least until Ben starts encountering those energy weapons he wants to use.

Can't really comment on the build, I always went small guns because I loved sniping with the gauss rifle, but good lord please put on some armour Ben!

@benpack: The Pip-boy has a quest-log under "Status"

The reason why you keep getting encumbered is that you only sell stuff with barely any weight while hoarding a ton of stuff that is very heavy, like several duplicates of weapons. But weapons and armor are really heavy.

It's also useful to remember what you actually speced into: You have sneak, make use of it, particularly when looting corpses killed by others or just wait until the killers move on before you loot ;)

Also: Remember Smiley the Trapper you saved earlier in the gecko cave? You haven't talked to him since he got back to Klamath. Should probably do that so he can properly thank you for saving him ^^
