I'm also not knee deep in the fighting game community, probably barely ankle deep and I get most of the jokes. They aren't bad for the most part.

Multiplayer was busted for me the first 2 days after release. Since then it has been great.

Awesome start to the podcast.

Man, normally I like 8-4 and Mark in particular from his 1UP days, but listening to this one was really frustrating in spots. An extremely unfair assessment of Disney Infinity, calling it "tepid at best, dogshit in actuality" when none of you have even touched it yet, and a bafflingly ignorant discussion of Divekick with factually incorrect information, despite the fact that one of you has played it.

And then the discussion of the launch lineups was so unbelievably narrow-minded. This is actually one of the best launch lineups in the history of gaming and yet all anybody can talk about is how multiplatform games don't count (no, they do, they're part of the launch lineup) and how if a game doesn't appeal to you then well, it must be shit. Just because a game doesn't appeal to you specifically doesn't mean it's shit and the launch lineup is busted. You'd think Mark would get that given that he's the only one on the podcast even remotely interested in Dead Rising 3.

Plus, you guys talked about how cool Resogun looked, then proceeded to talk about how there's nothing on PS4 at launch you want to play. Um. Resogun is, and it's free.

Like, think about it for a minute. Forget that inferior last-gen versions of some of those games will be out when those consoles launch for a moment. You're getting consoles that launch with new entries in huge franchises like Battlefield, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Need For Speed, Forza and Killzone, as well as new franchises like Driveclub, Knack and Watch_Dogs. You're getting a handful of free-to-play games like Blacklight, Warframe and War Thunder. You're also getting indie titles like Minecraft, Contrast, Resogun, etc.

That is an incredible launch lineup. How jaded do you have to be to shrug at all of that and just go, "Meh. There's nothing I want. What a dismal launch lineup"? Even if somehow none of that interests you, that's still an awesome lineup. At least talk about what you would like to see and are excited to play instead of just shitting on everything.

I know cynicism is really cool and all, but it's OK to be excited for stuff, you guys.

...Did I mention Resogun was free?

The teasing of an upcoming project announcement at the top of the show made me nervous. If it turns out you guys are localizing JoJo All-Star then I'm going to be upset. Reason being that I just dropped a large sum of money for an import copy. Cool podcast as usual. Keep up the great work.

@mezmero I doubt it will be localized. The manga never made it over here(nor did the anime to my knownledge) and only one of the games did. The whole copyright thing(almost all characters are based off 70/80s band names) will be a nightmare, especially in America. The amount of mola you put into importing that great game is worth it.(might buy it myself)

@whatisdelicious: Huh, funny thing is, I haven't listened to the last few 8-4 podcasts because I generally feel they are too negative and love to shit on things for (almost) no reason. Well, except for anything on the 3DS, weirdly enough. Judging by your comment it seems like the trend hasn't stopped and I don't think I'll listen to this one either.

It really depresses me that everyweek, I have to listen to guys I used to really like, talking about stuff I'm extremely excited for in such a negative, narrow minded and shitty attitude. I've been a supporter and subscriber of the site since launch. But it makes me really sad and frustrated so, I get your point.

And frankly, many devepments in videogaming deserve a healthy dose of cynicism; especially monetization crap like Disney Infinity, which is completely lacking any creative vision and was solely developed to nickel and dime clueless children (or their parents, respectively) the way Skylanders did.

See, this is what I don't understand. You're a Giant Bomb user. You should understand the passion and creative vision and love that has gone into Disney Infinity more than any other user on any other gaming site. Johnny V coming on here so often... That dude clearly loves his job, loves Disney Infinity, made it sound like his life's work.

And then you have a few cynical guys in Japan who've never touched it themselves, just heard about it on another podcast, and they're declaring it "dogshit." That's just disrespectful. Then they start harping on stuff they are just factually incorrect about, like how Divekick works and the launch lineups.

Like I said, I usually like 8-4 Play and Mark a lot and I know they can be cynical. Sometimes it's fun. But I like when they're cynical about something they've played and know about and have reason to be cynical about.

@paulunga: Same here. I haven't listened to one in a while but I wanted to listen to a podcast while playing Spelunky, so 8-4 Play it is. You're totally right about them and 3DS stuff. I thought about it and yeah, that's exactly how the conversation about the 2DS went. If you're not looking for negativity for the sake of negativity, I'd recommend skipping this one. It's one of the ones where you're sitting there, getting annoyed, responding out loud and correcting them. So frustrating.

@nashvilleskyline: Usually with Jeff and crew, I don't mind it because I know they have reason to say what they're saying, you know? If they're harping on a flaw in a game, even if that flaw doesn't bother me, I can recognize that that flaw is there. They strike a good balance of personalities usually, especially since Vinny is so enthusiastic and willing to give stuff a chance.

I like Johnny V as much as you but it's his job to promote Disney Infinity. I also like Jeff, who ironically or non-ironically enjoys Skylanders (who knows at this point), but that doesn't change my opinion of that game (it's poor and a fucking scam). And just as the 8-4 guys, I feel comfortable saying these things without having played those games. Nothing I have seen of Disney Infinity convinced me that this is a product of creativity and not a product of greed (and I don't blame Johnny V btw, I blame the Disney execs).

$35 for on disc DLC?

Even if you take 10 dollars per figure in those play sets, you are left with 15 dollars for completed content sitting on the disc.

I love those guys at 8-4. It's entertaining stuff for me, but I'm in my mid-thirties and have played games since the early 80's as a wee lad. I don't always agree with their opinion on everything, but I can usually see where they are coming from. That's life, move on. Follow someone else if you want to find someone that will point YOU to the right games to play.

Does anyone have the link to their Dark Souls run that they mentioned a few times in this episode? I googled 8 4 play and dark souls but it didn't yield any useful results.

@askherserenity: Yeah, but I'm separating the pricing model from the quality of the game itself. They're different issues, and when Mark was calling the game dogshit, he was talking about the quality of the game. Call the pricing model dogshit all day. That's fine. I'll agree with you. But for people who haven't even played the game to declare the entire thing dogshit and totally lacking in creative vision because of the pricing model is overly cynical.

I don't own the game and I don't want it either. It doesn't look like it was made for me. But that doesn't mean the game is terrible and that doesn't mean it's lacking in creative vision.

Regardless, I don't really care about Disney Infinity. When I was younger, I loved this kind of cynicism. It felt like a weird sort of justice, I suppose. Now I just think it's boring and childish and cowardly--there's no way Mark would have said that if a developer who had spent three years of his life making that game had been there. Making something creative is always hard and always means putting yourself out there in a really scary way, and the Internet is way too harsh on people who do that.

I wish creeps on the Internet didn't feel the need to comment on every female's appearance...
