Absolutely not.

I really like it when GB does "bits" between people and the Freitza thing in this episode is great. I wasn't a fan of Dan doing it but switching acknowledges it in a way that I am enjoying.

Perfect.

On a side-note, I'm starting to find the "Freetza" spelling (not pronunciation) less annoying than "Frieza", and I'm not sure that I like that.

In regards to Piccolo's power level -- And something I kinda forgot until this watch -- Goku got as much stronger as he did in 5 days (plus the whole "Saiyan healing factor" power up thing). Piccolo's been training on King Kai's planet for months.

Also important to keep in mind: Power levels are completely meaningless by the time they fight Frietza.

How do you feel about "Frietza?"

@devoidmana: As much as I love the Bardock special episode (which aired before Goku arrived on Namek, so they're in good time to watch it now) it hasn't received the Kai treatment of an accurate dub. As such, I can't really recommend that they watch it in English, and I'm not one to push the Japanese version where it isn't wanted.

A) Because the Goku-troupe need the Dragon Balls to function to get their friends back.

B) Because killing the Elder and de-activating the Dragon Balls won't stop Frieza from committing genocide on all Namekians (and anyone else he gets pissy about).

C) Because they're supposed be *heroes*, not fucking psychopaths. Like, I know DragonBall has all the emotional gravitas of a cartoon designed for pre-teens ("ha ha, death is fun cuz you get to hang out with a blue guy with antennas!"), but I imagine that most people wouldn't punch their grandpa to death just because it'll throw a wrench in the plans of some outer-space bad guy.

Yeah if they're gonna continue with 5 episodes then 9 and 10 will end with major cliffhangers. which will be super funny, but i do hope they bump up to 6 as well after 9.

T-they swapped the bit... Did you not notice? Jeff is now saying Frietza and Dan pronounces it correctly.

It's a shame, the Bardock special is fantastic but from what little I've looked up of the original dub it's pretty rotten in English

I'm confused as to why they are still confused on how the dragon balls work.

I looked at the episodes coming up and it seems it will be a nice cliffhanger before Super Saiyan in 2 weeks

I bet Dan was saying Fritza in error and only spun it as a gag after people pointed it out. I have a strong feeling he didn't plan it from the beginning.

The way the Freetza thing has morphed from what was almost certainly just Dan being Dan into a very subtle yet devious in-joke is kind of the best. I'm pretty sure Dan is now saying EVERY character name correctly (except maybe Recoome?) and Jeff is the one saying Freetza and is now saying Nails even though Dan corrected him.

Sneaky buggers.

Also I look forward to this more than anything all week. My favourite TV shows and web content are second to Jeff's retelling of DBZ Kai. All we need now is someone to cut together the scenes as they discuss them in a DVD commentary style and it will be perfect.

I'm not sure if Brett realizes this but he's pronouncing Frieza wrong. It's pronounced "Free Za", as in "hey, I just got this 'za from a place that was giving it away for free! It's delicious!" Please correct this error in the future or I'll leave a bad review.

Interestingly enough Piccolo is probably the most effective fighter against frieza till Goku wakes up.

This is beautiful, they are actually getting it, to hear Jeff tout the idea of stacking kaioken with super sayian, and how they know that the next set of episodes are gonna be them holding frieza off till goku Wakes up

@k9: Vegeta just calls it an "healing chamber" (nothing about liquid Sayain DNA). Krillin just says "Whoa, that's kinda neat" and Vegeta's thought-response is something like "Don't think it'll do the same for you"

If I had gathered all of Kami’s seven earth dragonballs, I would ask Shenron to grant Dan and Jeff the power to remember how the dragonballs work. They would then be magically scattered across the globe immediately following the granting of said wish.

Love the bit where Jeff and Dan switched in the way they pronounce Frieza/Frietza.

Totally. But I think this might be because a lot of the exposition on those things was in the og dragonball series but obviously later expanded

I agree with Jeff that there's a lot of neat stuff happening on Namek, but the plot hardly moves forwards. Especially in Kai, you are introduced to Raditz, Vegeta & Nappa as these earth threatening forces, but the way they get beaten is fairly straight forward. The squad meets with the bad guys, some jobber fights take place until the super hero saves the day. This all takes place in 10-ish episodes. Raditz only took 3 i think. On Namek, the objective of gathering the dragonballs seems like something that should be relatively simple. Especially given that Freeza hardly has any strong allies, and the dragonballs are regularly unprotected or not protected well enough. So to still be on Namek trying to get these balls together and get the right password, and make the right people meet up with eachother seems like it should never take as many episodes as it did. That said, once Namek is over, the return to earth feels fresh and exciting again.

The filler that got cut helps a lot with getting through Namek a bit faster, but it also means that the people at King Kai feel like they're useless. Simply because you don't see them progress at all. A few minutes of them hurting the Ginyu Force at least shows that there's some progression happening.

Unfortunately, the pacing of this saga never really gets better, and I can't imagine anything henceforth improving in forward momentum. Cell saga is the epitome of stretching things out due to idiot plots.

It’s a shame that Jeff is getting tired of the waiting for Goku trope. I personally love it and enjoy this type of stuff. I do get it though where he’s coming from. It’s well worn territory at this point in fact it happens a bunch in regular Dragon Ball, but this is probably my favorite stretch of waiting for Goku coming up.

Personally this fight coming up is my favorite in the Manga. The anime ruined it though to the point that it became a horrible internet meme.

@onemanarmyy: I wonder how many people are aware that Dragon Ball was supposed to end on Namek but due to popularity and Akita Toriyama being given tons of money to keep doing it they kept the series going. If you think about it the series ending here would’ve made sense.

I know this won't change, and I don't want it to, but Kai not having Bulma's arc in the Namek saga kinda fucks over her character.

She's legit one of the better DBZ characters, them hating her (and Kai doing nothing to make them not hate her) kinda sucks.
