@ferios: Regardless of whether or not the padding was an accident, I love it! I have the spoiler-free option turned on in GBQoL extension but if I didn't, I'd appreciate the padding keeping me from spoiling myself.

As someone that's going for Dante Must Die completion in DMC V, I'm glad games are easy now.

All the unnecessary posturing at the beginning make this so much more hysterical.

This feels like the biggest set back on a run yet.

I can't blame Dan for that first death. Between the freeze from the powerup animation and the horrible hitbox change upon standing, the fault lies in the game there. Was really hoping they'd make it this time.

I never thought that the game they'd get hung up on would be a 5 level one.

LONG POST WARNING: Though I've been playing the game piecemeal/with continues, I thought I'd try a 1cc run myself, solo. Even with the advantages of having played the game as a kid and watched the series, I ran into many of the problems Vinny & Dan have:

Try 1: Apparently was in wrong position for Boss #2 and not hitting middle eye. Lost a couple lives there and died on Boss #3.
Try 2: Got caught trying to get an orb on Level 2 where I couldn't get this enemy away because the kick button was not responding for some reason. Miffed Boss 2 a bit and died to a punchy guy on Level 3. Learned that the flying guys can come out of the ground on Level 2 if you're a dragon and flying close to the ceiling when they're timed to spawn.
3: Boss #2 gets in a couple licks, but I don't lose a life. Boss #3 takes a life, but I manage a victory. Art Wizard never shows up, though - the game glitches out, leaving me just roaming the screen with no exit, and I have to reset.
4: I position perfectly and kill Boss #2 in a couple second but lose a life on Boss #3. Unfortunately, I have a Vinny situation on Level 5 and miss every single orb, then get pizza'd.
5: Again lose a life on Boss #3, which is proving hard with one player. Also, I somehow lose two life bars from Level 3 to 4. They just disappear from my health bar between rounds. Misc. chicanery, mainly involving a missed orb and endless hammer demons in the second loop, leads to death at the Lv. 4 boss.
6: A bad run with a life lost on Level 2, so I see if Boss #2 can be hit with the dragon's shooty beam instead of going in close. It cannot. For Boss #3, it seems that the best strategy is to let yourself get bounced out, then immediately spin-jump back in. It doesn't matter, though, because...the Level 3 end glitch appears again, and I can't progress. I take a break until the next day.
7: Start playing again and forget a couple wolf placements. I have to do the second loop of Level 3 and, despite my best efforts, get knocked in a hole. I totally sympathize with Dan's problems here now: the positioning on those intermediary platforms is so precarious that it seems if you press any directional button instead of just jumping, you're gonna fall. Boss #3 still takes away substantial amounts of health (and does not seem to have a clear hurtbox). I die to a hammer demon on Level 4.
8: After a great run where I lose no life at all until the very last bit of Level 3, I lose almost two full lives to the snail boss, one to a one-hit kill. Unbelievable. I die on Boss #4 after getting greedy and misreading a few signs.
9: I make it to the first part of Level 5. Nothing remarkable, just cumulative mistakes. I get through Boss #3 with almost no damage using the exactly same strategy that failed so horribly the previous try.
10: AHAHAHAHA. I have a pretty good run, but there are a couple mistakes and tricks, including Bebop appearing from nowhere on the boss confrontation screen & sucker-punching me from behind. I don't have enough energy left to kill the final boss, and I die...but the game glitches, and Art Wizard, who was not close to death, ALSO dies as I die, leading to me getting the "GAME OVER" screen AS the victory screen is playing. I lost and won the game simultaneously. (Proof here - beware spoilers!) I think this is the best victory for which I could have hoped.

Pizza, holes, weird/unclear boss hitboxes, a few bad hits ruining the whole run: this is just how this game goes. It's not due to Vinny or Dan's failings specifically: the bad hit detection and uneven damage tallying plus the short life bar mean that only a couple errors can doom your run, and your mistakes compound very quickly (forget where a wolf is, and you're both less able to fight and forced to survive a longer version of the stage; get knocked down/respawn anywhere near a pit, and you will probably lose a life). You don't have any margin of error, but there are tons of places in the game with a huge margin of error, if that makes sense, in regard to working correctly. That's how we're getting uneven progress: skill will get you only so far, random accounting errors can hobble progress, and, again, any mistakes compound very quickly.

(That said, I don't know if the numerous glitches I encountered are emulation errors; I played the Steam version, and I don't recall the Genesis cart being glitchy.)

Doing repeated Sonic jumps is the only way to fight the snail dragon on level 3. Vinny just needed to commit.

The bear burp petrifies enemies?! And that seems to break the sprite limit or something unless one player is dead?
