So it's more in line with like a Greedfall or Two Worlds then, gotcha. I'll wait for the next reboot when they'll start making AC games again.

It’s bundled in with my Series X so I’ll check it out but otherwise I wouldn’t bother. I got a little excited when I heard this game is taking AC back to its roots a little more but it seems just the opposite. I don’t know who over at Ubisoft suddenly decided that this series about secret assasssins throughout history is not going to be about the assasssins anymore but it’s a very weird direction they’re taking.

I had a moderate interest in this game and then I saw the thumbnail of a dude riding a wolf and now I'm in I don't even care.

@humanity: It's just completely unrecognizable at this point. I've been replaying Unity, and yes that game has a ton of problems, but MAAAAN does that game look and play *beautifully* compared to what I'm seeing in Valhalla. It really feels like they regressed with so many aspects. I'm crossing my fingers for a next gen second reboot (Origins was the first one) that resets everything back to the core AC stuff.

As a guy from the actual Rygjafylke - I'm looking forward to the Ubisoft version of it - what could go wrong!? Time for another 2-3 months of Ubisoft+ to play Legion and Valhalla.

@reaveybeach: Paris is absolutely beautiful in Unity and probably the most dense city they ever created. Part of the appeal was always seeing how amazingly they recreated these great cities of the past. Sort of like web swinging in Spider-Man there was a lot of fun to be had navigating the rooftops in a smooth and seamless way as you made your way across the map. Origins and Odyssey replaced this with long stretches of barren world to traverse and Valhalla doesn’t seem to do much better.

I'm with Vinny, I have no color perception issues and those blue and white default dot colors are weirdly similar choices.

Is it just me or do some of these characters' faces and hair look really rough? It's been a while since I played Odyssey, but I feel like they looked better.

Assassin's Creed: Cultural Palette Swap.

Remember when Ubi games weren't paint-by-numbers and formulaic?

P.S. - Bless Alex for constantly rotating the camera away from the bugged / glitched out NPC viking fight behind him.

One day, video games will have subtitles which are easy to read and match up with the pace and cadence of the speaker, instead of being either two words or nine sentences. One day.

Yet another formulaic open world game... can we please kill this genre/game type forever? There's nothing more to be gained from this, and I'm not only talking about Ubisoft's games.

Ubisoft needs a refresh so badly. This formula is so tiresome. Remember when Ubi games did fun quirky things in the open world? Like Far Cry 2 for instance. Now its all the same thing with a different skin. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm more excited for Riders Republic than anything else Ubi is doing right now. Looks like a dope successor to Downhill Domination on PS2.

No way I'm buying this. I still have half the map (at LEAST) AND all the dlc from Odyssey I still need to get through as well as the other TWO main questline endings. These games are work.

I really loved Black Flag and Origins. While I did everything in Odyssey, I knew going in that I was going to be fairly underwhelmed. Didn't enjoy the story of that and the three separate main quests just didn't convalesce in any meaningful way. This is by the main group that did Black Flag and Origins (although the face of that team has been outed as a creep and is gone from Ubisoft) so I'm fairly confident I'll really like what they make.

Alex not using the lock-on button in combat makes me itch. I would've also liked to see him show off the dual wielding and other weapon types, but there's other trailers for that I guess.

I loved Odyssey, and with this looking like more of that, I'm all for it. I think I may not be worn out on the Ubisoft open-world design because I don't play many of their games; the only non-Assassin's Creed recent game I've played of theirs is The Division, and I didn't even play Origins.

Odyssey also scratched a bit of that BioWare itch I've been missing the past few years, and it looks like this'll do that too. I'm super excited to play on Series X this week.

That being said, the reintroduction of social stealth, hidden blade, and the Assassin Order itself in the storyline makes me wonder if Ubisoft is slowly making their way back to more traditional Assassin's Creeds. Maybe the next one from the Odyssey team will be more of a classic one? I honestly prefer this new approach, but I know fans like Vinny are disappointed with some of the changes the series has made.

Assassin emissaries visiting Scandanavia from Arabia. Is this "The 13th Warrior: The Video Game"? Because if so, I'm 100% on board.

I like the art direction; it seems less monochromatic than previous entries. Having enemies be uninterruptable while they're in the middle of an animation seems REALLY bad in what is ostensibly a timing-based combat system, though.

Man I was tempering my expectations for this one, but this looks wayyyy too much of the same thing as the last two AC's.

But I do actually recommend getting a month of UPlay+ to check out Watch Dogs: Legion and this game. At $7.50 a piece to play them both for a month, I think it's a steal. For me, I think a month is more than enough for both of these games. But if you want to keep playing them for longer than a month, you might as well wait for a sale.

So there is a PC game called Expeditions: Vikings which has almost the exact same plot as this, down to your parents being murdered by a rival clan leader who is exceptionally large. You end up raiding the Saxon territory in England in order to fund the construction of a new town to impress King Harald at whatever the name of that event is. Your main goal is to form alliances with the different factions vying for control and you end up landing in front of a monastery which you raid as your first mission.

This game is so similar to that one in setting and tone and character that it almost feels like copyright infringement. Also worth noting for anyone interested, in that game you have the choice to raid or to form trade agreements with the various factions, and how you treat the various factions in that regard alters the course of the story and the level of success you have in appeasing the King. Your party members will also be more or less inclined to support you depending on how you go about gaining resources and which factions you choose to ally yourself with.

The game is a top down pause based RPG like traditional Bioware or Obsidian/Black Isle games. I would recommend anyone who wants something in this setting but is tired of this type of gameplay give it a shot.

EDIT: Forgot to explicitly mention that you are also building up your village in that game which allows you to get better gear and earn new abilities and so on.

I lost it at the wolf horse scene. I've got this preordered and it seems like another AC game, I like seeing all the goofy shit they put in this game. The best bits is when this series does not take itself seriously.

@mikachops: Really? Christ expectations are high these days.

I'd counter Alex and say Unity is worth playing, at launch it wasn't well received because it was buggy and didn't completely blow away peoples expectations of a next generation game, but it's aged very well.
It's the last assassin game, you know, where you play as an assassin, fans of the series look back on it fondly. Not saying it's "better" than the modern games, but if you liked AC before it's a good time.
