Voicemail Dump Truck Baby Chat with Jeff and Ben

This week Jeff returns to regale us with stories of fatherhood, video games, and food delivery services.

If you think the GIant Bombcast spends too much time talking about Not Video Games, you're going to hate this thing.

Welcome back @jeff & congrats! Fitting car seats is hellish at the best of times, I can't imagine trying to do it when you have to leave for an unexpected induction. We've had two inductions and and they are Intense. Well done to you two for getting through it!

Jeff, thanks for sharing your story about the pregnancy and delivery. Father's don't talk enough about their experiences with pregnancy and birth, especially when things don't go according to plan. I hope that you guys got all of the stress out of the way so that the next 18 years will be smoooooth sailing.

Jeff was talking about a 4 foot spray of baby shit then I mustve skipped forwards a bit or something, then he suddenly said "if I don't get dirty, I don't have to wash my hands, I can use my computer"

Man, thanks Jeff for sharing the fears and challenges. We had some of those same issues and found it extremely helpful to hear from others that went through it. Congrats to you guys. Super happy for y'all.

Crazy to me that the "bill" is even something to discuss when leaving a hospital with a baby, and you gotta be thankful if your employer has good coverage.

Babies are hard. You're either ahead or behind friends/family with other babies on things. So it's either like when you know the spoilers to a movie but you're just waiting to watch for their reaction to various surprises... or you're confused at where the plot is going and ask them but they give you some info that you can't really put in to use without the context... you really only get it when you experience it (sometimes even long after the fact)

To the guy looking for gifts - I got all my groomsmen mechanical keyboards with some of the special keys with keycaps in their favorite colors. They all get used enthusiastically, as opposed to something like knives or axes or random clutter that a lot of common ideas are.

DoorDash customer service sucks. UberEats and Skid The Dishes, in Canada at least, will immediately give you a full refund with very little further investigation, if any at all.

Edit: wait have ben and jeff not heard of a villain protagonist before

I feel for you Jeff - I had a really rough labor and delivery and I had to have a c-section after 2.5 days of labor and the baby like, RIGHT THERE about to come out but coming out at an angle so after 2 hours of pushing I gave up and had them just pull her out a different way. I also ended up in L&D like 4 times during my pregnancy for all different reasons and it sucked. But ultimately we have our daughter and she's awesome and totally worth it.

Sympathy to you Jeff and your family about the pregnancy roller coaster - my own wife had her own scares and complications... but 19 months after delivery and we have a very robust toddler who likes grabbing game controllers and running around the living room. :)

In addition to movies with unsavory protagonists being around forever (and Joker is essentially the main character in The Killing Joke), advance reviews for major film releases shown at these film festivals in Venice and Toronto have been a thing for a long long time. Joker was shown at Venice and will be shown at Toronto because WB sees it as an Oscar contender. It's also said to be completely separate from the DC movie universe, though that's a bit of a mess right now anyway (new Batman actor, potentially new Superman actor in the future, etc.).

Jeff, big congrats and thank you for sharing all of this. Glad the baby is well and looking good.

Thanks for sharing your family's birth story, @jeff. We had our second child a week after you did and it's very interesting since our experiences have been completely different.

Both of our kids were born incredibly fast. For our first, she 5 days late and my wife was induced. Our daughter was born later that night/early morning and my wife only had 12 minutes of labour after arriving at the hospital. For our second, we hired a doula to help with the process. We had moved since the birth of our first and now live directly across the street from the hospital. My wife's birth sensations, like with our first, progressed incredibly fast and we had to rush her to the hospital. Only had 6 minutes of labour this time. Our son was born 10 minutes into his original due date.

Everyone's experience is totally different. I can relate to the puking as our second is going through that same thing. Our first, however, threw up maybe 2 times total. Sleeping patterns completely different. Our daughter is super tiny even at 3 years old and only weighs about 30ish lbs. Our newborn son is growing at a normal rate. I'm mostly looking after our daughter while my wife is taking the sleep hit with our son.

They constantly change. Food, habits, likes & dislikes, moods, etc. It's fascinating and I'm loving the challenge of raising another human.

Just wanted to jump in and thank Jeff for sharing his birth story. It brought back a lot of the feelings of fear, anxiety, and bewilderment I felt when my wife and I had our first but, you know, in a good way.

Bad news: Nine years later, I'm pretty sure the fear, anxiety, and bewilderment never go away. Good news: "You think today's the day you kick your old man's ass?" translates really well into playing fighting games together.

Jeff!!! !

You gotta do a dadcast with Vinny and Jason (and maybe Will Smith too if he's available) some time. That would be fun. I vividly remember Vinny's video about playing Fez while caring for his firstborn in the first few weeks.

Peach Ball, like Jeff said, is probably super terrible if you're into pinball. Not being a pinball fan really I found it a fun real casual game to play without thinking. It definitely needs more content though.

Y'all should probably look at the mainline games, they're actually pretty good and not nearly as big on the fanservice (despite it still being a big part of them). They're solid beat em up/musou-esque games. I'm probably in the minority of not playing them for the fanservice, the characters are fun and the stories are solid/decent. Not everyone that's a fan are creeps, and a solid portion of the fanbase is female too (at least in Japan) :(

I was surprised that there was basically zero baby talk on Jeff's first return to the Bombcast. And then I was surprised at how much baby talk there was on here once I learned it was here (as in, how far he went). I don't usually listen to the Aftermath past the bit of it I catch live (and I missed all the baby talk part of this one live), so it was unexpected. Harrowing stuff. Interesting to hear about, though.

Bit of a shame that Ben said he only knows of creeps into Senran Kagura. I know he didn't outright label all fans as creeps, but it still kind of has that vibe. Comes with the territory, though.
