Holy crap, this game seems great!

I love finding gold in the Steam heaps, but this is downright mind-boggling given what it is. Someone's got a crazy bright future in development, it seems.

The Bonfire Lit at the end really elevated this game for me. Interesting stuff.

This super bums me out, but after seeing this video I went to check the game on Steam and one of the reviews talked about it using stolen assets from Bless Online. After some googling, it turns out the developer confirmed this.

For some reason this game just reminds me of a mishmash between that Ghost in the Shell Online game, Shadow Warrior and Blacklight.

For one guy, this is super impressive - I get the same feeling as the early previews of Lost Soul Aside (before that got a lot more funding) in that respect.

If it is really the one guy working on this, it's very impressive... but I'm skeptical. The level of polish on this game is next level for a 7$ game.

This went from generic shooter to cool first person character action game in a real hurry. This is really interesting.

Also; Abby is 100% right about the main character. My first though when this began was wtf is going on with her weird plastic chest piece thing. That whole chestal region is off in general.

I am also extremely skeptical about this being 'one person'. The amount of art in here, like texturing, texturing alone with lighting effects etc looks like it would take several people a few years on the unreal engine assuming they modeled, animated and textured without a ton of prefab etc. Still, cool, though my skepticism about the asset creation has been confirmed, which honestly should have been suspect to anyone at GB from the go.

I know we like to romanticize the notion of mans best friend but there are plenty of bad dogs out there in the real. Home pets are one thing but unlike stray cats, wild dogs are very dangerous and will attack and seriously injure you if you’re not careful.

You may want to do some better research next time. I don't buy this "made by one person" one bit. Anyways, the game can still be cool and/or good.

Such a fan-fiction game. Main character is Chinese Lara croft, with Crysis suit. Impressive that they put it together.

Hearing Alex praise this for it's unique enemy assets while I'm reading about stolen enemy assets is hilarious.

@rocketblast0063: but..it is made by one guy though? at least put together by one guy? Using store assets or third party software (that you can legally purchase) is also something that can be done by one person, ultimately the game feeling good and having the scripting it does and the design underlying it all is the effort that isn't just bought.

You can obviously hear the doubt in Alex's voice about it being just one guy. But without further confirmation he isn't just going to call someone a liar. He came into this game blind so that's uh, like the responsible thing to do.

As someone who messed around with map-making and animation back in the day, my hat's off to this guy.

Something about this game reminds me of games like Will Rock, Serious Sam, or Painkiller.

Obviously few situations are entirely black and white but I find the knee-jerk reaction to STOLEN ASSETS a bit weird in an industry where the sanctity of Let's Plays must be preserved at all costs under "fair use" claims. Surely these assets in this entirely new context is "transformative" enough? Do we really want to live in a world without SPACE TRUCKER?

This game looks neat.

@mb2814: Yeah Dan or Vinny should have looked into it. Alex is there to ask questions about the game, he's not supposed to know too much about it, and it's unreasonable to expect him to recognize the models on first sight.

@rocketraccooncmro: Why do you care so much? Is this a sub-account for Alex? Give it a rest. There aren't medals given out for the person who defends the crew the hardest.

It looks really awesome. Shame it's pirated stuff,and if it was a free game I'd feel way better about it. But regardless, a full game like this with original stuff would be dope.

The Bonfire Lit part NEEDS to be the end of the next "Best of" IMO. Dunno if @turboman takes requests.

Hearing that this person has ripped enemies and other assets from a Chinese MMO (which honestly I figured it was using plenty of pre-made models and animations, you'd be surprised how hard those things are to make from scratch) makes this sound less like an impressive indie venture and more like a legal case waiting to blow up.

That it's been packaged together and programmed by one person is an achievement in an of itself but I would almost never take it at face value that all this (assets, music, animations, coding) was made by a single person in a reasonable time-frame.

Barely any reporters dug deeper into this game's development, I can only find one article on Abacus News reporting on this. It's a game that's taking money for assets that are not bought, but pirated / ripped directly from other commercial games. It should be a scandal but it's just not I guess?

It's a different case than your typical asset flip, which is usually someone appropriating royalty-free assets legally purchased on somewhere like the Unity asset store.
Sometimes those are people attempting to realise an idea with little art / coding skill, or in the worst case just building a pre-made package and selling as-is for a quick buck; this however is straight up art theft.

Really couldn't give less of a shit that this uses some assets from another game, it's impressive as fuck regardless and looks great. Hopefully the guy can hire some more people who can make new models for it.

But sure, they need to do more research, like play every Chinese MMO so they can recognise stolen assets, or learn Chinese and read the developer's Weibo.
