Pretty solid show. Wish there was way more Zelda because HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Splatoon looks neat. Mario Maker. Bayonetta combo.

The big three had good showings.

Okay, so before E3 started I told some friends of mine out of the three current consoles the WiiU is the only one I'm interested in. Now that I've seen the big three conferences that changed (MS and Sony both had good shows) but I'm still the most interested in the Wii U.

Also, this is finally an E3 worth watching again. It's been years since I was this hyped up by one.

I love the GiantBomb guys, but they really annoyed me with all the talking over the Amiibo stuff, dismissing it as "This thing we've had for four years", while they were talking about what makes it different. Like, seriously, Jeff, for once, shut up and listen to what he's saying, rather than talking right over the part of Amiibo that's different (aka that the figures have actual writable storage).

Excited by nearly everything they showed. Smash Bros. additions, customizable movesets, Mario Maker, Bayonetta 2 coming with a Wii-U version of the first Bayonetta, new Zelda, Hyrule Warriors looking sweet... it's all good. If there was some SMT x Fire Emblem news it would have been perfect.

I'm not a Wii U owner myself but with the handful of great games already on the console and after this E3 showing I'd say that quiver is looking pretty full.

Nintendo really nailed it this year with an amazing first party line up.

Fucking hell. Robot Chicken is the stupidest fucking shit. It's got the formula of horrible, shit webcomics. REFERENCE, REFERENCE, ONE CHARACTER SAYS SOMETHING STUPID, VIOLENCE!

New low point for Nintendo. Almost don't want to continue watching.

Also Judges Week. Jeff knows a lot of this same information beforehand, and he's already had time to formulate an opinion on many things. It's not just knee jerk jerking on stuff.

This was pretty cool, I thought. They cranked up the madness and showed a lot of stuff I’m interested in.

And Jeff’s "makes Lu Bu look like a hobo" cracked me up something fierce.

Man am I glad i decided to watch this live without these guys for this one. I knew they would be a downer through the whole thing (mostly).

I felt Nintendo within their franchises had alot of original ideas that aren't soley backed up behind fancy new graphic engines. Which was what the majority of the new games shown at Sony and MS were.

Nintendo did a solid job, I also sort liked the Robot Chicken stuff because hey it beats alot of the corporate BS from Sony and MS yesterday.

I don't think Nintendo quite knocked it out of the park but they were close. They still need some new IP and to stop sitting on the ones they do have but haven't used for years. Star Fox was a good start but was poorly announced etc

The fact I don't work in any part of the industry also means that I kinda like the way they promote their CEO's at Nintendo. It makes them more approachable to me even if that's not really the case.

Just wish Jeff would tone it down a notch, he and the rest seemed to go into that event wanting to shit all over it abit. I know ideally they would hope that wasn't the case and it wasn't too bad but still...

You can tell that the bridges between most of the GB Crew and the Wii U are truly burnt at this point and that's understandable I guess. Still could have been slightly more open minded and less over the top with their criticism.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback! I should point out here that Skylanders have had "writable storage" since day one. That's the whole point, allowing you to move your characters from one place to another while keeping your stats intact.

Having seen all of this, it broadly fit everything one could expect with previously mentioned games getting some mention, a few random drops that raise hopes (Splatoons looks interesting), and Zelda. Here's hoping it all comes together next year, I've got serious hopes for Zelda.

In Hyrule Warriors it should be impossible to win with Princess Zelda unless someone is playing Link to save you. You can fight to the end of the stage, but you get immediately captured if Zelda is on her own. That would be hilarious.

That Bayonetta stuff is always interesting. I feel like that's probably the last outing of that franchise, so I hope Bayonetta 2 is as crazy as the first one.

If you are having issues with staff voicing over the streams, feel free to consume the stream without them speaking. Presumably, if you played the stream where they were talking over the conference, you came to listen to them, so... they should be talking if they have thoughts.

They'll likely come back to a bunch of missed Nintendo news tonight. I flipped over to the twitch stream and announcements were coming out of that post video and they'll likely be trickling things out over the week. Will agree it's a shame the crew were talking over the amiibo stuff where they explained how it would work and pretty much answered the questions they were asking. Then again pushing that info into the post show wasn't the best idea.

Acknowledging the Luigi stare is more than I would have ever expected from Nintendo, and that Reggie/Iwata brawl was glorious.

For the first time I'm feeling optimistic-ish for the WiiU. Zelda and X have definitely sold me.

They really aught to stop ending their conferences on smaller named titles though. Leaving Zelda to the end would have left a huge positive last impression.

Here's a question for people who've had time with either or both: is the 3DS or the U a better investment at this stage? I had totally sold myself on the 3DS for Animal Crossing, the recent Pokemon games, and A Link Between Worlds, along with the decent back-catalog, and was resigned to a reduced version of Smash.

This showing, though... I can't deny my excitement for the possibilities with this new Zelda, both the Yoshi and Kirby games seem like things I'll adore, the slime shooter hints at attempts to expand franchise variety, and including the first game with Bayonetta 2 eliminates my only excuse for not looking forward to that thing.

So what's the infrastructure like? Has it felt like the broad-base of games is expanding? Is that fucking controller actually comfortable to use?

The 3DS has an amazing library of games, but it feels like things are slowing down on that side of things for a little while as they focus on WiiU development. There's still stuff coming that looks cool, but at a slower rate. Nintendo is still showing 3DS stuff later in the week though so who knows what's going on with that.

I really like the WiiU. I like the controller, I generally like the interface, and I like the games. If you're expecting this to have everything, it won't. Outside of indie support and some family friendly titles, third party games are pretty much dead on the platform now. That said, Nintendo produces some of the best content in the industry, and if you want to play that stuff, then cool.

Either is a good way to go as long as you know what you're looking for.

Also, I think as far as games I want to play, Nintendo had the best showing for me. Then Sony. I'm still somewhat disinterested in Microsoft. =P

Love it!

Sony still has more games I'm interested in, but Nintendo is a fairly close second. Still just can't justify 300 bucks for that console though.

Okay so highlight is obviously Rainbow Curse. First look at Yoshi also great, that squid game looks cool too. Miis are cool I guess.

Disappointing Smash 3DS is delayed. I hope there's more character reveals this E3. Really hoping for K Rool. Any time now guys!

NOTES FOR @patrickklepek

1) Majora's Mask had a quest log of sorts. It's not unheard of for Zelda!

2) I think it is very likely Retro is finishing off their New DKC Trilogy. After the first game came out everyone naysaid. "Oh they're not making a second" "Of course it'll be Metroid" "Maybe it'll be new IP" "What if it was Star Fox and Metroid" "It'll be something great so long as it's not DKC so get hype." They did it for so long it became easy to believe their naysaying. However those people do not speak for Nintendo. DKCR outsold Skyward Sword and was critically acclaimed. They made a sequel to it. DKCTF was critically acclaimed. Only difference is I'm not tolerating the naysayers who were DEAD WRONG last time to make the same assertions this time. If the Wii U is still a thing in 3 years they'll make another DKC game. In this one the Kremlings will return and that'll be the selling point.

I really enjoyed that Nintendo Direct for the most part. The Robot Chicken stuff wasn't that great, but almost everything else from the Reggie/Iwata fight to the game reveals (Kirby, Zelda, Splatoon, etc) were pretty awesome.

Edit: I like Jeff's Vader time reference in the beginning.

I just don't get people who are saying this was an E3 to watch again. All five shows (MS, EA, Ubi, Sony, and Nintendo) were lackluster. There were no real "holy crap" moments for anyone and everything was a lot of ho-hum more of the same. Hell, if EA didn't have sports to show, their press conference would have lasted a whole 15 minutes, tops.

This is a great E3 to watch again if you just want to see the same AAA stuff we've seen for the last 3 years. Nothing from any of these shows made me want ANY of the consoles this year.

I'm feeling pretty good about Nintendo -- this was by far the most interesting press event of the show to me. I have no idea if any of this stuff will be good business, but it's making me feel pretty good about owning a Wii U, and it makes up for my general disinterest in the imminent (i.e. not a "2015" CG trailer) PS4 and X0 exclusives. It might just be that Japanese developers are really dragging their feet on the other platforms.

I'm not one to complain too much about the staff snark and cynicism, but the response to Hyrule Warriors was tough to sit through. To me it crossed a line from fun joke to uncomfortably hostile. I've got zero history with the Warriors games -- I just don't feel like the staff even gave this game a chance before aggressively shitting on it.

On the flip side, while I appreciate Patrick's cheeriness, it's almost too much. He tends to use superlatives to describe everything he likes, and it ends up devaluing that praise and leaving no rhetorical space for stuff that's truly exceptional. Don't get me wrong: I'm not sitting here fuming about it, it just tends to stick out at me and I wanted to get it off my chest.
