I just don't get people who are saying this was an E3 to watch again. All five shows (MS, EA, Ubi, Sony, and Nintendo) were lackluster. There were no real "holy crap" moments for anyone and everything was a lot of ho-hum more of the same. Hell, if EA didn't have sports to show, their press conference would have lasted a whole 15 minutes, tops.

This is a great E3 to watch again if you just want to see the same AAA stuff we've seen for the last 3 years. Nothing from any of these shows made me want ANY of the consoles this year.

Last year was the "holy crap" year for me. This year was like, Sony back to their overlong, meandering style, Microsoft not having a ton of interesting stuff and needlessly celebrating games, Nintendo doing Nintendo as usual, EA and Ubisoft bringing out, like you said, new evolutions of old games. Not super exciting in the grand scheme.

But you start to drill down past the lack of "holy crap" moments and there's still plenty to be excited about. Ubisoft managed to get me back into Assassin's Creed after being incensed at how insultingly bad III was. Batman looks super awesome. No Man's Sky is crazy ambitious. Tons of cool indie games coming. Mario Maker is really exciting (and makes LBP3 a moot point, honestly) and new Zelda sounds tentatively awesome. Plus a ton of other exciting games.

I think that's why you're getting a lot of people excited again.

Nintendo had some great stuff and it was a decently put together presentation.

But sheesh...some of the comments about it have been just as bad as the folks who badmouth anything other than the few standard AAA One/PS4/PC franchises they praise incessantly. Only it's the other way around.

This time some of the same people who were cynically writing off or snarkily ripping apart all the new and amazing stuff we saw from Microsoft and Sony's so-called "boring" or "lackluster" shows are quick to chime in with how Nintendo--primarily finally rolling out a few good looking, unsurprising iterations and spinoffs of their own standard material just like everyone else--"won" the show.

I'm all for having a favorite. But is it necessary to shit on everything else in the process?

This was a super exciting show that's got me optimistic about Nintendo again. That Zelda game sounds like all the right things after the horrible, disappointing Skyward Sword. I'm interested in most of the games they showed. Awesome.

Hearing their response to Palutena disheartened me, because it meant none of them played one of the best games of 2012.

Patrick and Brad make these streams way more enjoyable with their enthusiasm. Jeff and Alex's opinions are appreciated but I question why they still game sometimes.

"He's a piece of shit, he can't throw eggs for shit, he's a piece of shit!"

I can't say I hate Yoshi with that much passion, but I know I pulled more laughter out of this rant than any Yoshi game in the past 10 years.

I love how Jeff just shits all over Yoshi's Yarn during that part of the stream. Never be afraid to express yourself Jeff, we love you for it.

Like, seriously, Jeff, for once, shut up and listen to what he's saying, rather than talking right over the part of Amiibo that's different (aka that the figures have actual writable storage).

Hi! Thank you for the feedback! I should point out here that Skylanders have had "writable storage" since day one. That's the whole point, allowing you to move your characters from one place to another while keeping your stats intact.

If you are having issues with staff voicing over the streams, feel free to consume the stream without them speaking. Presumably, if you played the stream where they were talking over the conference, you came to listen to them, so... they should be talking if they have thoughts.

and well, you know, jeff IS right about skylanders figurines having actual writable storage

I hope the best for Nintendo, I loved their games when I was younger and I respect them so much because my childhood was great because of them. However, I am just so uninterested in everything that they do now and that makes me sad. Good luck I say, I hope their is a younger generation coming up that will support them.

Honestly duders, can you tone down the fucking snark?

Like.. fuck. Take a note out of Vinny and Brad's book and just enjoy what you're doing as a job without being cringeworthy in anger. Looking at Patrick, Alex and even Jeff at times.

Good show overall. Mario Maker definitely behaves unlike the original SMB, in the original SMB the "victory walk" ends once Mario runs against a solid object (there's a brick block placed to the right of the entrance door on the castle at the end) so walling the castle off like that would actually make Mario "enter" the wall and end that way.

These guys are being too cynical about everything, it's a drag. Be cynical about bullshit (of which there is a lot at E3), not about things where there is underlying coolness and/or humor (of which there is also a lot at E3).

Edit: there was a bunch of positivity later on.

I read this as soon as Patrick says "good Nintendo Direct!" at about 36 minutes. So really, seems like our community's been complaining far more than the staff at this point.

And Jeff hilariously hating on Yoshi is just... it's gonna happen, man.

This whole day from Nintendo was a huge ray of light in a sea of brown shooters, of both the 3rd and 1st person. People were having so much fun during the smash tourney, even Geoff, who railed on Reggie last year for the Cranky Kong announcement.

I'm noticing a big shift on certain sides of the internet after seeing this direct. I guess people are growing tired of the same multiplatform garbage. PC/3DS/Wii U seems the way to go right now.

Since I have not mentioned this yet, the talking over the press conferences was a fantastic idea with the xbox and sony reveals last year, and I am very glad the crew did it for E3 this year. Jeff's hilarious Yoshi hate even adds to what was a better-than-the-rest Nintendo presser.

Christ almighty. Patrick and Alex were making jokes in-between constantly praising what was being shown.

I don't understand people who deliberately watch feeds like this and then confusingly seem to get upset that the staff aren't just sitting there quietly clapping for the whole thing.

That intro was the best thing I've seen Nintendo do in years and from what the guy said about what they're doing with Zelda has actually made me interested in a Zelda title again.

Yeah, people get way too uptight about these things. They only seem to operate on a pass/fail mentality. If they don't like it 100%, they must hate it 100%. There's no in between. Very strange.

Jeff's opinions on Yoshi had me crippled with laughter.

Also, If they're giving Zelda the open world treatment, any chances with Pokemon? Or perhaps a Zelda with voice acting? I just think it's time they scrapped some traditions.
