They'll be fine. The minmaxing bits of Chrono Trigger are more for cruising through the game rather than an actual necessity.

They managed to take down the Beasts, but I think the next episode or two will make or break the Endurance Run. The next episode's boss is one of the hardest in the game (for me, anyway).

I find the endurance run stumbling into victory more often then not.

There were a few points in Persona 4 where I was expecting them to have to retry a boss. But nope, they just smashed it.

I rarely get upset about their silly doing but jeez, sometime I wonder if they truly are illiterate.

@SamDrugbringer: because apparently everyone is a super-amazing expert game player who loves to explain in the comments how exactly the people are playing the game 'wrong' - where wrong means, not following with strict, unwavering precision the most efficient way of approaching every situation. and not playing like this is obvious stuff which should be instinctual.

and when the idea of playing it wrong comes around, i think the idea follows that if someone is playing a game wrong they must be setting themselves up for failure. whereas, actually, most situations and bosses have a fairly decent room for 'error' and can be muddled through without too much trouble as long as the players don't over-stretch themselves, skimp on healing or keep trying something which isn't working.

then everyone is shocked and amazed when the players manage to get through the fight, which seemed impossible because they were playing it so goddamn wrong it seemed to cause physical pain and mental outrage

@drag: The boss I'm thinking of they were VERY lucky to have gotten past it. It wasn't an impossible boss, just a pretty hard one, and even knowing HOW to beat it and higher level I had trouble with him.

I know people get way to riled up about things in these comments (Though there have been one or two moments where they did something really silly.) But I'd agree. If you're beating the game, you're winning.

(Personally, the way they burn through MP though, I worry about them running out of mid-eithers and full eithers. Now THAT would really make the game a lot harder.)

This is a great point in the game for them to be running around lost so they can stumble upon those sealed chests!

First thing I do when I get to work, is not work, and watch this shit instead. Great stuff. Of all the shit I've heard over the years about how fucking great this game is. Now I can just relax and watch it at work. And I don't have to play the apparently horribly translated DS game now.

I think one reason people get mad is because they're demonstrating that you can play a JRPG like a normal person. People don't want to look back on the hours of joyless min-maxing, grinding, and item-hoarding that they did to beat JRPGs in their youth as simply redundant. So during the ER everyone comes out of the woodwork all like 'well yeah but the NEXT boss is gonna...' as if to justify the fact that they finished the game with a billion unused ethers and a dogeared copy of the official strategy guide.

I was rolling through most of the episode fine until near the end. The ineptitude is hilarious at times but the skipping of rubbles (the rock mosters that give 100 freakin' tech points!) is going to kill me. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I can't believe they sold the Ruby Vest. I cannot believe they did that, and I cannot believe they couldn't tell the difference between the words "cuts" and "absorbs". Those sound like pretty understandable words to know the difference between. One reduces damage, the other turns the damage into health. But, maybe I only know that because I've played so many jrpgs in my life. I guess it's not that bad, Ruby Vest isn't critical to the story, but, it is kind of critical to being able to beat the boss that drops the moon stone.

It's far from horribly translated. One of the worst "offenses" in the new script is that frog doesn't talk in the same manner. But that hardly changes the quality of the game.

While I agree that there's quite a few people like this, don't lump them all together. There were people that simply took issue with the complete and utter lack of paying any sort of attention to detail in the earlier episodes which would lead to them wasting time. I never had much of an issue with that myself, but the comments get pretty stupid on BOTH ends of the argument.

Either way, they seem to have everything down by now. Even though Patrick totally forgot about the Magus stuff, they scored some good items and found a important side quest to do in the future through their confusion, and they finally realized that Triple Raid is a awesome attack that's very light on the MP usage. That mud imp with the beasts is the first boss in the game that I really got stuck on when I was playing it back when I was 10 years old. Makes it all the sweeter seeing a new player push their shit in on the first try.

I'm enjoying this ER (as I have with all of them), but I don't know why people are trying to be appologists about their play. It's not that people who are criticizing are doing so out of some ultra nerd necessity for them to play this perfect game or something; it's merely out of frustration of them showing a complete lack of paying any kind of attention, and playing as if they've gleaned absolutely no gaming common sense in the decades of experience they have with the medium. They just play badly. Like, really bad. And sometimes that is frustrating to watch. It doesn't mean we're not still watching. Also, sorry if this looks like a big block of text; typing on my iPhone in bed.

Yeah, I changed it to one of the reasons. But I think it's a big reason! I mean, I didn't play Chrono Trigger or P4. Most of the stuff that happens in the ER seems reasonable to me from their perspective. Sometimes they miss stuff that I didn't, but other times they get things that I might not have. Even the people who didn't play with a guide at hand have probably forgotten exactly how the game went for them.

I played through Cave Story on easy a couple weeks ago sans guide. I got the normal ending (duh) and some of the bosses still gave me plenty of trouble. If there was a comments section people would have been screamin'. Most people playing a game for the first time have to muddle through poor choices and lack of skill. If this frustrates you then the ER isn't for you.

"Try Laser Spin. Let's see what that does."

After the did it literally less than 3 minutes earlier at the opening of the battle. Yeah, some people are taking it a little far complaining about them not doing all the secret stuff, but I'll be damned if they have absolutely no short term memory (or long term either, really) when playing this game.

It's not a horrible translation, but the original is more enjoyable. The DS translation is more literal, as in the original Ted Woolsey was not given enough time to actually translate the script, and instead had to create a more freeform translation of each scene as a whole.

Yo, guys, I think that Red Vest actually absorbs fire damage and uses it to heal you. Not %100, but the description seems to point to that. Could be super useful.

Hell, how about Patrick insisting that they haven't been to 600 A.D. even though this is probably the period they spent the most time in?

Chrononomics is the best phrase to come out of this so far.

I don't understand why people think the whole 'cuts' and 'absorbs' thing is so self-explanatory. I don't think I even realize it myself - does 'absorbs' heal you or something?
