Once I got Haste and X-Strike I blazed through all of that without ever dying once. Until I met the monster in the Desert that is. That one kicked my ass really hard.

I have to believe that they are screwing with us. There is no possible way that someone can be so oblivious to the fact that when something Flashes on the screen something like "IGNORES ALL MAGIC EXCEPT WATER" over and over and over again, and they act so utterly confused...

Its simply impossible for 2 people watching the same screen to ignore these warnings. Not only that, but they are colored to their element. They cast their element they counter with, and they flash on the screen over and over again they ignore all magic but their color.

I have to believe they are screwing with us and they are great actors.

I mean, these people run a video game reviewing website. They review video games for a living.  Chrono Trigger is an extremely simple RPG that might be difficult for regular gamers, but not for people who have played video games for all of their lives, and are professional video game reviewers.

The same people who are playing this game, are the same people who criticize and review video games.  I refuse to believe that they are not screwing with us. I don't care if I am being delusional.

I hope that next episode they come out and just tell us they are playing around. Then we can all laugh and they can play the game normally, and we all can enjoy it. Right now its getting to the point that I am starting to seriously feel sorry for them.

But how can you expect them to read text that appears on screen multiple times when they've never played the game before! You guys are just being unreasonable!

I don't think the text is being cut off, guys. They've commented on battle text before, "Only water damages". Read the text, Patryan! Really though, I was entertained and I love these dudes, so... keep it up?

Batrick and Byan's Brono Brigger's Bndurance Bun is getting increasingly hard to watch, if only because I've played this game before (as I'm sure everyone else in the world has played and beaten this game). One part of me is happy that they are now getting punished for not paying to anything the game is telegraphing but another part of me is mad because that is not content I find enjoyable.

Who is editing these videos? Is it Drew?

I would love to see little notes from the editor pop up. Like, just an arrow and a frowny face. That would be hilarious.

@hardindr: That kind of defeats the spirit of this series. What fun would it be to watch someone blaze through the game with a guide, its more fun to see them work it out for themselves.

"IGNORES ALL MAGIC EXCEPT WATER" isn't really indicative of anything. It's a bad translation and really doesn't tell you anything. Most of the status pop ups are weird grammar engrish that are barely comprehensible to someone that isn't an old school Time Egg Master.

@Xtophre: I'm pretty sure they have been trolling with the videos for a while now. There's no possibly way people can miss text displayed on screen over and over again, or totally forget everything that happened from one video to the next (when they are obviously doing multiple episodes in one sitting). The commentary is great, and it's a great game, so I really don't mind, but I kinda wish they'd hit like episode 30 and like start playing for real. There's no way modern games have got so easy that they are actually this bad at CT, I figured this all out when I was like 12.

It'd be nice to actually see them use a bit more variety in party too, but that's their call, so whatever.

@nesagwa: I dunno, english isn't my native language and I played through CT first in English (The original version). "fights all magic except water" followed by a counterattack is pretty obvious that you should use...water. They've never seemed to figure out counterattacks in this game though, as they just kinda tried to muscle through every boss with a counter.

I keep saying this, but... the few problems they've had so far only prove that games have NOT gotten any easier. Had they been trying to play any modern RPG from Skyrim to Xenoblade Chronicles, let alone Dark Souls while missing so much in-game information they would not have made it 15 hours into the game dying only once or twice.

Besides that underlying point, though, can we all just stop whining in the comments now? Please? First, I'm pretty sure that whatever setup they're using makes the game hard to actually see (remember them walking straight into holes a few episodes back?) and this is clearly how they're going to play the game anyway. Do we really get so much entertainment from being a douche online and bragging about our gaming superiority that we're going to keep saying this stuff for the next thirty episodes as well? Because I endure the endurance run, but the comments are starting to get hard to stomach, honestly.

That's cute. They think they have stuff figured out.

Hopefully, this coming rough patch will force them to understand some pretty basic things about this game (and many other games). Colors correspond to elements!? Who'd have thunk?

I don't think they'll ever figure out not to use Lightning 2 (or any of the 2's) on single targets, though.

EDIT: By the way, someone should tally all the items they're burning in this playthrough. It's got to be a goddamn record.

@NoelVeiga: I'm not whining at all, I was agreeing with the previous poster that they are obviously doing this on purpose and I just hope that they say 'haha, we got you!' within the next few episodes. It actually was sorta funny for a while, but the joke kinda wore thin. They're smart guys, they've played more games than I probably ever will. Yeah, they miss things here and there that people that have played CT for years probably think is obvious and that's totally fine, but they 'miss' so many things that the game outright tells you, even after talking to people that explain it directly.

I'm thrilled they are playing CT, the commentary is usually pretty good in towns and stuff, and I actually like both of them a lot more after this much of the ER. I just think that one particular joke has worn a bit thin. It's their call if they want to keep it up and have some kinda big reveal at the end, but they are enjoyable enough already that i don't think they need to do that.

To your first point, Skyrim is pretty easy compared to a lot of older RPGS. From what I've seen you cant make the 'if they weren't paying attention' point for Dark Souls, because that game purposefully obscures things from the player.

To the second paragraph....do you even REMEMBER the P4:ER? The comments were a LOT worse than this. Just dont read them, thats what i do.

Man, this is the kind of narrative that pisses me off so much in this discussion. I was maybe 14 when Daggerfall came out and I logged hundreds of hours in it. I'm on my 50th hour on Skyrim and so far it's not any easier than Daggerfall was. It's less fidgety, for sure, because it has better controls and UI, but like you say yourself "obscure" and "hard" are not the same thing. I struggled to know what the hell I was supposed to be doing in Eye of the Beholder, but Etrian Odyssey, which is 2008 game that is still being iterated on, is both very clear in what the mechanics and objectives are and fucking tough as nails when compared to all the old RPGs it takes inspiration from.

Games aren't any easier these days, they've just gotten better at not having broken UIs.

To your second point, though? Yeah, you're right on that one.

This is still totally an Endurance Run. Blatant disregard for elemental weaknesses are kind of a running joke at this point, aren't they?

And they're doing fine now, as is the typical ER tradition. You get your shit wrecked once or twice, then you come back and make the enemies that destroyed you look totally trivial. This is just like the Bambino rounds from Persona 4, or Brad's Wall Lady Endurance Run during Deadly Premonition.

I agree with that completely. It wasn't fun back in P4 days and worse now. espessially since they record episodes amost 2 weeks in advance it seems. So no advice or critisism means anything. Love the ER. Let them play like they can it was always the best part of the whole thing.

Maybe this game is just too easy for them to try. It's so much more exciting to watch them suck.

It is a shame you guys got rid of YouTube links in your RSS feed. Now I have to log in to your mobile site each time I want to watch something on my phone.

Also, your mobile site has no links to the YouTube version of a video and launches a video media player that has no skip or resume function on my phone.

This is inconvenient for my commute on BART
to SF every morning. I enjoy watching the endurance run via YouTube, so please modify your mobile site to have options to launch the YouTube version. Thank you for reading.

This a thousand times. They did read the text, but Patrick thought the water attack had caused the blue guys to counter attack, hence the reason they were so confused and have decided not to cast any magic. It's not that they're idiots not reading the screen, because they've actually read out the lines about 3 times. Just they both think Brog cast water, which he didn't.

This ER is great. Just two guys playing the game and talking over it. No guides or anything, just figuring it out. A lot of you need to chill out. This would be boring if they knew the game and were just flying through it. I want to see them die. It's interesting to see them learn from mistakes.

I'm glad they are getting their asses kicked. Perhaps it will force them to learn the fundamentals of the game.

Oh and I just thought of the elevator rides in this area. Should be absolutely grueling to watch unless they figure out how to read.

Man. I kind of assumed they'd have a rough go of things against the scouts, but I figured it wouldn't come until later on the elevator when you have to do the fight against two of each color at the same time. I face palm'd so hard watching this episode I almost slapped myself unconcious.

But something must be f'd up about the monitor they're playing on if they're having a tough time discerning the colors. Plus, it seems like they're having a problem seeing some of those doors. Should Drew or someone be manning the recording gear and watching this on a monitor? Pipe up! Help these guys out!

I love Bobo as much as the other guy, but the dungeons in this game were meant for certain characters. This one, in particular, needs Brono, Brog, and BUCCA. That way, you have lightning for the scouts, fire for the red scouts, and water for the blue scouts.

I suppose playing multiple video games in succession on a daily basis doesn't do great things for your attention span...

But whatever.

Bufu!
