I was thinking maybe that wasn't supposed to be her suffocating but her throat being ripped out in some weird Saw type trap, just hard to tell with the horrible textures. At least that would explain everyone staring at her. Although, like Brad and Ryan, I thought the knife would have something to do with it.

I always interpreted that scene as her spine breaking due to the  weight of the tree that falls on top of her, her body gets angled weirdly and you hear a *snap* when the thing falls down.
