Never watched any previous Endurance Run but man this is a blast! Also never played Shenmue so it's nice to see what's really about.

I'd rather have them call him Ryu than "Rye-oh"

They have been kind of sticking to the main story but it's still fun.

Oh man, this is really frustrating when you can read the signs they're passing. Shenmue feels like a giant exercise in "lost in translation".

I was just laying down to watch narcos season 2 which I've waited eagerly for over a year now to see and instead I will have to pause it to watch bad voice acting and the quest for person who knows what a chinese is

Such a cliffhanger ending!

Being a big Shenmue fan, watching this is both entertaining and frustrating. I learned where places were at quickly enough when I first played this and didn't get Suzume confused with Sakuragaoka as far as I can recall. I just hope they get used to where places are at eventually, which I'm sure they will.

EDIT: Oh man, sucks what happened at the end. No wonder this episode was short.

Is Dan just 'mugging' for the recording to give Alex and Vinnie an opening to explain stuff, or is he really as dumb as he always seems to come across?

Its awesome they are doing this, and this confirms it's on a real console and not some weird emulations stuff. Wasn't Shenmue 2 released on XBox? if they do it I wonder which console they will use.

Why go into the pause menu to open the notebook when there is a button on the controller to bring it up right away?

Dreamcast freezing is not a good sign. Make sure to keep it cool. My Dreamcast always had that problem when it was a hot summer even when it was new.

@rigas: It basically has to be done on the Dreamcast. While DC emulators are out there, their development seems to have ceased with the final version of NullDC being released in 2008. While Shenmue's visuals can be greatly improved in emulation, there are also some errors including hair rendering that clips through the character model and shadow bugs. I've heard the Demul emulator is better but I haven't tried it out myself.

I don't know how they're capturing the game but the output is very blurry which makes me think that they're not using a VGA box which would give a much crisper image but the series is recorded and complete at this point so it's not like they can take suggestions from chat on how to improve things.

I know that it's been said to death but Shenmue 1 and 2 could really do with being remastered. The controls and audio especially need to be updated to modern standards. Even back when the game was released though the audio being so heavily compressed was an issue and very noticeable.

The way the person is crouching is the way some people sit in the east. It's actually closer to the natural way for our bodies to sit without a chair. But if you try to do this as a westerner you will probably hurt yourself, fall backwards or be very uncomfortable. I do all three at the same time. We are no longer used to sitting like that because we use chairs everywhere which has led to shortening of muscles in the back and, well, I suppose a loss of strength and flexibility in some areas.

Also Sakuregoraka may be the unintentionally (?) funniest thing about this Endurance Run yet.

@mrcraggle: A quick Google search of updates on Dreamcast Emulators revealed that in recent weeks there were major developments on these things, look it up.

The Emulator is called DEmul.

As someone who couldn't get through Kerbal: Project B.E.A.S.T for similar reasons, I feel your pain. But since I don't give a fuck about Shenmue I can enjoy this without any care if they're playing it properly or not.

They'll surely put both this and the sequel on PSN before 3 comes out, right?...Especially since 2 is very rare, if I recall correctly.

Vinny, you don't have to fidget around trying to get the "a" prompt to view the maps. Just stand close and use first person look with the left trigger.

Also you can view store names by tilting the camera up at the awning/signage without going into first person look. This way the subtitles will appear immediately when you're in front of a store.

Just so you know, Dan said on Twitter that they had already recorded the whole playthrough (which makes sense given that Dan went back to SF for a couple of months now), so there's really no use in giving gameplay tips etc. :)
