Am I the only one who stopped and internally went "WHAT" when Mike casually mentions not wearing a seat-belt when he sits in the back seat of a car in his uber story..?

Was surprised no one else in the cast reacted to that, is not wearing a seat-belt if you are in the back seat of a car common in the US?

I thought the ESA contact info list was linked to directly on their site and not hidden in any way. The ESA has downplayed how many people were accessing it but it wasn't very hard to dig up and Alex, or anyone else on the site was not on it. I've heard the "leaks" are in violation of California privacy laws so hopefully the people affected will be contacting their lawyers.

I'm really not sure this ESA leak will change anything. Everyone has been saying for a while that there is less and less reason for press to attend E3 so a few more press not going because they don't trust the ESA with their info isn't going to change much.

What will dictate the success of E3 is the same thing that always does. How many big publishers and platform holders can they get to show up. With next year tipped to be a big year due to the new hardware I can see the ESA going all out to entice the big names back under their roof.

I'm 30 hours into fire emblem and had no idea that there was a time skip. Love the show, but can we not do casual spoilers of 2-week old games?

@oceanripple: Yeah, for reasons unknown, riding a seatbelt is really only common in the front seats. Here in the US, I mean.

@ogjbizz: BOTH shows this week have done this (one after saying "no spoilers", this before the conversation even started really and I could decide to skip) and it's a bummer. I heard about it around E3 and wish I hadn't because it's coloring my playthrough, and the fact that they're just throwing it out there is a bummer.

yeah- although my deep cynicism is what's informing my skepticism of any real change. large organizations leak sensitive data on a seemingly monthly basis (retailers, social media platforms, the nightmare that is EQUIFAX) and NOBODY- both the public AND business partners- penalize these organizations for their colossal fuckups. they all apologize until the spotlight shifts to the next fuckup, and then it's back to business as usual.

@eazeapeacans strangely enough it happens most regularly in cabs, in my anecdotal experience, and it also kind of makes me laugh as if "well, they're professionals" is the reason.

@ogjbizz: Pretty sure they treat it as fair game because Nintendo put it in trailers and some Treehouse gameplay at E3, though I'd argue that they shouldn't have done that in the first place.

Just thought this was funny during the wrestling talk.

Now, I'm just paraphrasing, but...

On the 2k WWE game "doesn't matter how bad the game is people are going to buy it"

Then basically Dan said "doesn't matter how bad WWE is I'm still going to watch/support"

Why would WWE when lifers like Dan are still going to support?

@epidehl: oh really? I usually am of the opinion that if it's in trailers it's fair game... I also agree that a time skip would be something that shouldn't be featured in trailers.

@mrhendo: Snooker defies all other conventions of pronunciation. Say aloud:

-Booker

-Cooker

-Hooker

-Looker

-Crook

-Rook

-Took

So I posit that the Americans on this podcast ARE saying snook-er, as any reasonable person would interpret those letters. No one is saying snucker, and the Brits who pronounce the game “correctly” are basically pronouncing it as if it were written as snuker.

In closing, your honour, my clients are innocent of crimes against pronunciation, and snooker is both a dumb word and a dumb game.

@ogjbizz: I was generally staying dark on the game, so I'm not sure if it was in trailers, but it was definitely in their Treehouse stuff, as that's where I heard it. I'm more bummed about it coming up in situations where it shouldn't have on these casts as opposed to they shouldn't talk about it at all.

@bisonhero:

Some of those words are pronounced differently in parts of the UK. My dad for example pronounces “cook” and “book” with the “oooh” sound.

But, regardless, like @49th says, it’s painful to hear that word pronounced wrong.

Americans also seem to be unable to pronounce “twat” properly either. They go straight for “twot” and it sounds like madness.

I predict their pronunciation of the word "snooker" will get even more corrections emails from the UK than the infamous pigs in blankets controversy.

I don't get the "gender locked" classes complaint I've heard on both podcasts. The game clearly shows the roadmaps for every single student, it's not like it's shadowed and hidden from you. From Level 10 you can see what stuff you can get at Level 30. It's not like you're steering the Titanic either when it comes to skills, I've flipped people from one to the other even post timeskip. Even then it adds more diversity to my playthrough rather than having all mages destined to be one class.

@mrhendo: Understandable, I know there’s a range of vowel sounds across the UK and Ireland, but based on Canadian English and American English, all those words I listed rhyme with each other and sound identical other than the differing consonant at the front, so I tend to support American pronunciation of snooker. The only word that even remotely supports snooker’s pronunciation is “hookah”, which apparently is adapted from an Arabic word that is more like “huqqah.”

So I know the Brits are going to lose it in the comments over pronunciation of snooker, but from my experience, boy oh boy do Americans and Canadians not give a fuck about pronunciation corrections from anyone in the UK, if it’s for a word we use about once every 1-2 years because no one in their right mind plays snooker in North America.

I am from the US and everyone I know wears a seat belt in the back seat, regardless of the law in that state. (Most states have a law for all passengers to be belted, however some have laws pertaining to only front passengers).

I think Jeff might be thinking of bumper pool? I've seen both rectangular and circular bumper pool tables.

Edit: Turns out they figure it out on the podcast. Anyway, I'll leave this out in case anyone is curious what bumper pool looks like.

@sto_ln: Yeah, nothing against the game of snooker, but the table is absurd. Billiards tables are already impractical in size and weight to put in many rooms, so the extra length and width of a snooker table just seems even sillier. The games are close enough in concept that I’ll stick with the games based on a North American billiards table, since maybe one day I could actually own a room that could contain one.

Dan and Abby talking about cooking reminds me of how annoying my brother is about cooking food. He makes $20 an hour but is still broke all the time because he refuses to cook and instead gets delivery for every god damned meal. I feed myself, the wife, two kids, two dogs, and a cat for less each day than he feeds just himself.

I'm from Eastern Europe and no one here wears a seat-belt in the back either. In fact I don't think it's dangerous at all, as I have been in the back seat during a strong head-on collision and I was absolutely fine - the seat infront of me cushioned the hit. Furthermore, taxi drivers (only them) here are allowed not to wear seatbelts while driving in cities as the speed limits are low enough to not have strong collisions.

The "sober curious" discussion was very interesting as an alcoholic (8 years sober next month, I'm fine!). I wouldn't have any special insight into what it would be like for someone who drinks normally to abstain, but its obviously improved my life a ton.

@sintes: There are jurisdictions where it is not legally required to wear seatbelts in the backseat, but it’s still putting yourself at significant risk of physical harm for no real reason.
