Good Luck Dan, and thanks. Hopefully, this is the only sad news from the GB front this year.

Aww good luck, Dan.

You will definitely be missed here. You brought so much life and positive, and some times manic (but also good), energy to the site.

Like all the best GB personalities you cannot be replaced because you are truly unique. And what you brought to the site only you can bring and no one else.

You made me believe in this site again.

This sucks, but I am glad Dan is doing what he wants.

I feel though as if there is a replacement I would love if Jeff Bakalar came to the site full time. Just throwing that out there.

Can't help but notice Jeff removed his "i've been writing about video games my whole life, it'd be insane to stop now" tagline from Twitter as well.

That's very ominous and can't be coincidental. In the very least, seems weird Jeff wouldn't realize the optics of that (didn't he have that tagline up forever). It's not far fetched at all when you think about the slow death of E3 and Jeff's interest in starting a site where he gets to sit down and hangout with developers -- he often talked about that being the drive at the start and now the industry has gone in such a different path that I can see how that'd kill some of his drive (not to mention financial realities of having a kid).

Hopefully, he's not leaving this year but if he is, I hope they go all out this year.

This is in the wrong Premium RSS feed, it's in the bombcast. I was wondering when it didn't show up on my phone, I was thinking maybe there wasn't an episode this week.

Dan brought such a unique energy to GB. I can barely imagine it without him now. It's sad to see him go, but looking forward to how GBeast might change by a new hire.

Especially sad though that this likely means no more random cool guests Dan happens to know, such as wrestlers and Broadway Alex. Suppose I'll still be getting my Dan fill from Panning the Stream though.

Bummer but can't say I'm really surprised. Always seemed like his two biggest passions (three, counting Taco Bell, I guess) were wrestling and video games, so only makes sense for him to make this transition. Dan's energy is part of why I got so hooked on Giant Bomb in the first place, and the stuff the Beast crew has made since he got out there has been especially good.

@niko_of_death: Couldn't agree more. GB East hasn't worked for me, Drew leaving was a big loss and now Dan leaving. The GOTY content was some of the worst content I've seen on this site in recent times and I don't see much enthusiasm from Brad anymore either. I really hope GB West get some good series going rather than just one off videos.

Gotta say - that “Goodbye” at the end was so weirdly final and emotional for me I wasn’t expecting it. Like a gut punch after a long fun podcast of goofing around and suddenly the very last thing is this stone-cold “oh no this is for real”

@ninkendo: If there is one person that can vibe with GB’s long-form videos it’s Tim Rogers. The man can sit down and talk for 2 hours about anything and it’s STILL entertaining. His video about Metal Wolf Chaos where he recounts a story of lending a girl that has never played video games some JRPG and then finding out two weeks later she did every possible thing in the game was amazing.

It will never happen; but never say never I guess! I was sure Dan would...maybe not never...but not leave GB for a VERY long time. The freedom he was afforded here seems insurmountable, but go figure!

Now I love Tim Rogers. Like really love him. But he'd be TERRIBLE at GB. In fact, he was on the Big Live Live Show and it was pretty awkward -- I don't think he was invited back to E3 for a reason. He's a one man show and is at his best at Kotaku. He loves the sound of his own voice, for better or worse, which would just destroy GB's chemistry on either coast. That Kinda Funny guy (not that he'd ever leave) would be bad for same reason. GB really thrives on chill people that are okay being quiet for a while. Like for as animated as Dan is, he is actually incredibly quiet on GOTY podcasts (not just this year) and feels no need to interrupt. Same with Austin, Patrick, anybody.

@lonelyspacepanda: Oh wow Tim was on a Big Live Live show? Will have to look for that somehow.. In all fairness, the BLLS is in itself a huge awkward thing. I do agree though that he is best when doing solo content. The few videos I saw of his on Kotaku that he does with other members make it seem like he is an insane person and the other co-host has no idea whats going on - and those are the people that actually work with him.

@youngshields: I couldn't agree more I loved her Bloodborne playthough at Waypoint and her leaving is one of the reasons a hardly ever check in anymore. She would be a great addition to GB and the fact that she's also adorable is just an extra bonus.

@humanity: Tim Rogers would never work in GB. He is too individualistic, while this site has been steadily going towards a "no strong opinions" trend for the last couple of years. Losing Dan (famous for his strong opinions) is just another example of that.

Ok how dare they besmirch the Witcher series. It's amazing!

That said, I agree with Vinny that it's a little bit harder to watch knowing in the back of my mind that the stuff that happens in the games is not canon.

Don't know why you think they'd go headhunting from other games sites. I think Patrick was the last time they did that. They'll probably pick up a freelancer of good repute or the co-host of a podcast you don't listen to but it turns out 75% of the site does.

Edit: They're gonna hire a streamer. Not a terrible one, not a great one, probably a cishet white guy.

It was the last (final?) Big Live Live Show. He was with Dave Lang (his producer) promoting his game Videoball. I say it was awkward because he always has a strong personality where he wants to take over the segment, which is a bad idea with the biggest personality of them all Dave Lang and Jeff. It wasn't bad but I just remember comments hating on him and me as a fan thinking he wasn't shown in the best light.

Anyway, I also think he wouldn't want to work for Giant Bomb. I think Jeff is the only person he would (and has) actually got along with.

Even when Austin left, I wanted SuperBunnyHop. That'd be a fun but wild fantasy GB draft pick. He's chill, great speaker and a fun dude with lots of content, investigative journalism experience and podcast hosting.

Man, just found out about this. Dan's departure breaks my heart.

I also joined post-Ryan and Dan was one of the reasons I eventually got a Premium subscription. I will never forget his controversial opinions on Sunshine and Terminator 2 on the Bombcast, the Mario Parties, Steal My Sunshine, Burgle My Bananas, and so on. His energy and enthusiasm was captivating and inspiring (Sure, there were some annoying moments too, but hey, that was part of the fun).

Dan, I wish you best of luck for his next journey, keep being awesome. o7

Dan you are a bright spot among GB! Always been a fan and admired your ability to just keep moving forward no matter what people say and get stuff done in what would seem like impossible situations. You helped bring new life to GB that kept me in stereo Ted after Ryan’s passing. Your second mission, go fix WWE!!!

There was an official port of the original Typing of the Dead in 2000 for Windows PC. And by 2004 I believe it sold OK - around 150,000 copies on PC.

Man Ive Read a lot of comments of people saying they aren’t going to renew their subs. I’ve been getting annoyed with each one, but the more I think of it the more I feel the same. I hardly watch anything the west coast does anymore and it’s obvious that dan is responsible for a lot of the features I enjoyed on the East. I still listen to every podcast and I don’t think I can go back to listening to ads so I guess I’ll just pay for that haha. Of coarse there is always Mass Alex 3 to look forward to

I think that listening to this is what finally made it sink in for me, more than the final Mario Party Party. Began feeling melancholy towards the ending even.

I’ve already written my thoughts about this at least twice, so only wishing Dan good luck with his new job!

I hope next week’s Beastcast brightens the mood, maybe with an announcement of a certain series returning for it’s third season...

I bought a Circle Pad Pro, and there are quite a few games that made use of the extra stick. RE, MGS2, S.T.E.A.M., both Zelda ports, both Luigi's Mansions, etc.

Didn't really understand Vinny's comments on The Witcher show looking more low budget and not 'high fantasy'. It's too bad we need to compare all fantasy shows that come out these days against whatever gargantuan budget GoT had. Honestly the show looks good to me, and more importantly to me, very well acted IMO. Incidentally, I think the first couple episodes of the season were the weakest, but if feels like the group already made up their mind on the series. Also I just kind of rolled my eyes at the part Alex declared the show will get cancelled in 2-3 season anyways, so none of it really matters. Guess we'll see.
